Gameplay and Guides
Use this discussion post to ask questions regarding gameplay like how does infections work.

I've also put all the guide post together here.

Bandage(replacement to vanilla opiates)
The "Bandaged" affliction provides healing effects that scales with its strength. Different items gives different strengths of "Bandaged" and there is also a max on how much "Bandaged" this item can give. We call how much "Bandaged" one item applies its effectiveness and the upper limit its capability.

Bandages have the lowest effect and capability. Platiseal is twice more effective and capable than bandages. Glue is twice more effective and capable than bandages; glue also reduce surface infection.

The effectiveness of these items benefits from medic's talents. However, being more effective also means you can squeeze in more "Bandaged" affliction before you reach the limit, thus also increasing the capability.

The capability, on the other hand, only benefits from "Medical Expertise".

Bluntforce trauma can be treated with Ice Pack as well.

Pain
Pain is inflicted by most physical damages and mental damages. Different body parts have different tolerance to pains. Different afflictions inflict different amounts of pains on different limbs. Opiates mitigate pain, but you need to heal the wounds that caused it, as to kill a tree you need to dig its root.

Pains inflict many penalties, mostly limb specific ones. For example, having a severe injury on your left arm won't effect how fast you repair using your right arm.

Pains don't show to other people nor on the health scanner. Pains only show to yourself. To help single player players, bots say different things while experiencing different amounts of pains.

Severe pain have a chance to cause trauma that cause pain(chronic pain). Trauma don't show to anyone. To avoid trauma, make sure to limit the time of having severe pain.

Infection
Untreated wounds can cause infection. Using bandages to cover the wounds will help reducing the chance of infection, while having your wounds in water increases the chance of infection.

Infections at low strength are negligible and probably won't progress further.

Infections at medium strength requires medications to fully heal; for example, broad-spectrum antibiotics.

Infections at high strength progress quickly, and have the chance to spread to other limbs. Keep in mind that infections that spread to other limbs travel by bloodstream, and maybe hard to notice in early stages.

Currently, there are 2 types of bacterial infections. Surface infections are very noticeable, while internal infections are harder to notice, even with the help of health scanner. Note that antibiotics aren't very effective against surface infection: surface infections are better treated using surface sanitizing agents like bleach.

Infection is a random process. The amount of infection you gained from afflictions are deterministic, but the rate of decrease is random. As a result, we can only say minor wounds are unlikely to cause infection and major wounds are likely to cause infection.

Infection related stuffs scales with world hostility, so in the worst case just set difficulty to easy.

Body Temperatures
When body temperature is too high, you have hyperthermia, or fever. Fever is non lethal at low strength and only inflicts some headache, but quickly becomes lethal once some threshold is reached. Currently, only infection, heat pack, and hemolysis on torso raises body temperature.

When body temperature is too low, you have hypothermia. Hypothermia, like hyperthermia, is non lethal a low strength, starts being lethal at a certain strength but kills you slower. Currently, only being submerged in water without wearing diving suits, using ice pack, and bleeding decreases body temperature. While fully submerged in water, you have around 24 seconds before hyperthermia becomes damaging. Normal diving suits slows down heat loss, but only to the degree that your body temperatures won't decrease. Exosuit and FB3000 are thicker so these can completely block heat loss.

Your body temperature will regress towards normal temperature naturally, albeit not instantly, so after getting out of cold water while having hyperthermia, it might take a while to recover your body temperature, using heat pack quickens this process, and vice versa. Different limbs have different heat potentials, meaning having a leg submerged in water isn't as dangerous as putting your torso in it.

Wearing certain clothing keeps you warm. This means your body temperature will drop slower, which is good when you are cold, but might not be good when you are having fever. Powered UOU(consumes Incendium Crystals), on the other hand, generates heat smartly to completely compensate all forms of heat loss(except ice packs).

Blood Types
There are all 8 types of blood with unequal chances of getting them: A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+, O-. The blood type is permanent.

When treating bloodloss, saline no longer works, vanilla blood pack's effectiveness are severely reduced. You have to use the corresponding type of blood. You can buy these from merchants, or extract them from another human using transfusion set. The extracted blood should be processed before use, using raw ones poses some risk. Using the wrong type of blood will cause hemolysis, hemolysis will cause organdamage and oxygenlow.

Blood types can't be seen through health scanner, you have to use blood extractor to extract and process the blood to see its type. You can also use the blood type analyzer to analyze a sample of blood collected from someone with bleeding(like vanilla traitor item "blood sample vial"). Your blood type won't change if you don't die; I don't know if it'll change after you respawn after dying(it probably will).

Bloodloss treatments like blood packs can only be applied through transfusion for players, bots can apply them normally. Alien blood can also be applied normally.

Follow this link to see the compatibility between blood types: https://www.blood.ca/sites/default/files/DonorRecipient-Chart_1.jpeg . Blood type distribution are a uniform weighted random distribution according to this: https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-are-the-different-blood-types.html .

Surgeries

When is surgery necessary?
1. Replace damaged/missing organs. Currently, this is only caused by hemolysis, morbusine(liver damage), sufforin(heart damage), and drinking too much ethanol(liver damage).
2. Take out good organs.

Where else can surgery be used?
1. Quickly fix large blood loss.
2. Quickly fix large wounds.

What do you need for surgeries?
Necessary
Scalpel: perform incision and cut off organs.
Scissors and sutures: stitch back organs or stitch together incisions/wounds.
Ciclosporin: immunosuppressant that heals immune rejection.
Helpful
Stapler and sutures: connect sealed(not bleeding while having an active incision), broken blood vessels(bleeding).
Bandages...: stop bleeding and apply after stitching to accelerate healing.
Disinfectant: both incision and stitched wounds are prone to infection.
Blood Pack: blood loss caused by bleeding or sealed blood vessels.
Analgesic: pains on both medic makes surgery harder.
Diving mask and anesthetic: the patient still being able to move will make surgery harder.
High medic skills and certain talents: these can have various benefits to make surgeries easier.
Assistants: depending on talents they can be better at performing incision and stitching wounds.
Postures: It's important to make sure patient is in a good position for surgeons to perform actions. Sleeping in medical bed>sleeping in normal bed>sitting in any chairs>standing around.
be naked: armors prevent incision and means that you'll need multiple cuts, so make sure to remove them.

How to perform a surgery?
1. Select "incise" in the action tab after equipping scalpel and apply it through health interface. Make sure you see the "Incision" affliction.
2. Apply bandages to stop the bleeding.
(3). Select the organ you want to cut off in the action tab and repeat step 1. Note your lungs, livers, and hearts grow on torso and not legs, arms, nor head.
(4). Load sutures into the scissors and hold an organ in one hand. Then, apply the scissor through health interface. Similarly, organs can't be stitched onto legs, arms, or head.
5. Load sutures into the stapler and apply it to fix bleeding and sealed vessels.
6. Again make sure scissors is loaded and apply it. Optionally, you can hold a platiseal in one hand to also stitch certain other wounds.
7. Apply immunosuppressant to any limbs.

Best practices
1. Heal your own wound or treat your own pain first.
2. Stitch the wound fast after applying stapler as its effects only last 20s. Or, you can also perform the surgery fast enough without fixing bleeding.
3. Prepare some Adrenalines so the patient don't die during surgery.
4. Heal other wounds before performing surgery.
5. Let assistants with medical assistance aura perform the incision and stitching part.
6. Apply bandages after stitching the wound. Apply disinfectant or immune booster regularly before the stitched wounds healed.
7. Anesthetize(or anyways that can render the patient unconscious: max paralysis, drop health below 0, and etc...) the patient before surgery.
8. Prepare some treatment for bloodloss.
9. Use high quality tools as they reduce side effects.
10. Apply immunosuppressant before putting in new organs.

What if ...
1. You forgot to connect sealed blood vessels? Use Scalpel to re-incise the wound, connect the blood vessels, and stitch back the incision. You'll likely need some adrenalines for this.
2. You preformed incision but can't take organs? You need at least 100% incision(75% with talent "delivery system") to be able to perform further operations.

Notes on organs
Humans have 3 organs: heart, liver, and lung. Low amount of organ damages can be healed naturally. If beyond this, you need beta or gamma stimulant slowly. A missing organ can only be replaced with surgeries. You can also cut off husk appendage if you have husk infection.

Organs need to be stored in a powered refrigerator(the blue crate).

Poisons and Scanners
Every 0-32 seconds, the chance of seeing a poison for this second is given by: min((strength-show_threshold)/max_strength,1) * medic_skill/170.

Bots should work. They might slightly waste opiates.

How does husk infection work with it? Can i assume it is immune to whatever the downside to low temperature is or at least mitigates it so it maybe is capped at the non damaging stages? I still want to go on swims without dive suits. Also perhaps zealot robes could help reduce infections as the parasite kills them for you.

I forgot to think about this previously.

Now husk infection, symbiosis, or any alien genes makes your resistant to temperature decrease depending on strength. You can stay in water for around 12 minutes with husk infection/symbiosis; using heat packs extend this to around 17 minutes. Do note that it also decreases your tolerance to high body temperatures(hyperthermia).

I'm not 100% on this but perhaps tweaking their priority could help reduce waste so they only use it when they wouldn't use stronger meds or something.
I've already tweaked the exact numbers. However, opiates only provide resistance for pains and therefore it's kind of hard to find the magic number as the default suitabletreatment value is designed for healing the affliction.

Don’t know if you did this but temperature should effect thermal goggles with hypothermia hiding your signature.

Good Point. This will be added later, as changing how thermal goggles work is quite difficult due to how Baro code works. I will probably add it when adding pain scanner.

Bleeding does.

But not bloodloss? It would make more sense for that to but I guess maybe not since blood bags are probably also cold

Bloodloss now makes you prone to temperature changes.
