Known issues and important notes
(These might still be accurate, since the underlying AI Planner rarely seems to change. Please post a comment if you believe an item on this list is outdated.)

  1. Some report occasional crashes during siege battles. The AI Planner was not designed for siege battles. I was not able to reproduce the issue in years on my machine, but enough people have reported the crash that it is safer not to use this in siege battles. (It can be frustrating to get 30 mins into a siege battle only to have it crash.)

  2. This mod only controls units. You are in charge of any army abilities, building fortifications, etc.

  3. Before victory is declared, this mod is better at controlling basic melee units. It often does stupid things with other units

  4. For example, it might keep lords out of melee (especially magic users). I recommend you maintain manual control over high-value characters.
For weird transformation behavior, consider also using [an updated version of] a mod like these for the Changeling and the Jade Dragon

  5. AI General messes with fire-at-will and skirmish commands for units it currently controls. This can cause bad use of move-while-firing units including missile cavalry.

  6. Some users report some ranged units stutter-step into melee. They say that turning on guard mode helps reduce this behavior.

  7. Idk how much the AI Planner considers terrain, but it is terrible on some maps, especially with artillery.

  8. AI General often ignores enemy units that are taking severe damage from daemonic instability or undead crumbling. When this happens, you can either:
    • Let the unit crumble. It will probably die on its own eventually, or
    • Take back control of some of your units and finish it off yourself.

  9. In Survival Battles, the AI does not understand what to do between waves. Take manual control of your army to capture the objective and wait for the next wave.

  10. During minor settlement battles, the AI might not let you release control of individual units once they start passing through a chokepoint. If this happens, either:
    • Just let the unit do its thing, or
    • Take back control of *all* your units by pressing Save Camera Bookmark 1 (Shift+F9) with no units selected. Fight the battle manually.

  11. AI General 3 does not have a UI indicator for the Rout and Rally hotkey (Sv Camera Bkmark 5). If you usually use that hotkey, you might want to turn it on with configuration instead.

  12. Active abilities and spells are not currently used after victory is declared. (You can still use them manually.)
