Future Plans
No promises. But if I stick to it I would like to do the following:
  • A portable device to manage crew. (List them, send them back to ship. Or call them to your location). Thanks Rylasasin for reminding me. Maybe not even a device. Just a QuickbarMini/StardustCore menu.
  • Allow crew members to live anywhere. I hate having them all forever stuck in the ship.
  • Create an inventory system for them. Similar to Crew Customization+ but my own take on it. Better stat handling and all that.
  • An addon for personality, conversation and relationship building. Think of Inigo in Skyrim.
  • Maybe I will play with FU skills to balance or make them more interesting.

New QOL suggestion:

Make it so that when you equip the commanding hand (either version) numbers 1-2 or 1-4 appear over the heads or behind the crew members following you, denoting which one is which. That way you don't have to guess at it.

The ability to make crew member follow another player would be pretty cool. Like lending someone a temporary crew member until you recall them back.

It'd be cool if it were possible to toggle the manual/auto activation of crew member skills like medics and such.

I don't have any idea how difficult this would be, but I would love to be able to order my crew members to sit in the extra seats on vehicles. It's so silly to have multiple seats on even vanilla vehicles, crew members in vanilla, but instead of riding together I just leave them in the dust to chase after me. Really feels like some basic functionality that should have been in the original game.

I thought of a thing that could be helpful but didnt know where to post it. What if you could direct one of your crewmates to guide a "lost friend" to the particular npc that gave the quest, and if possible complete said quest [or not, safety is fine too] I have also noticed the last comment was at september, so i hope i am not too late.

Not too late. It's my only published mod so far so I try to keep track of what's going on. As for the suggestion, don't think so. The game is weird. And I think entities just stop existing after a certain distance. (That's why things like the FU watcher exist, to keep areas loaded). So NPCs can't really act independently away from the player.

Hm. In that case, what about a compatiability with npc mechs? It could already work [thinking the calling em and having them stay, but who knows, i havent tested that yet], but getting em to get of their mechs without them in mechs charding into said ship/station could be a thing.

As I was talking with others recently in Bug Reports, as soon as I finish a little project that I'm doing for another game, I will be looking into vehicles usage with this mod.

First will be vanilla bikes and a little something for Customizable Shuttlecraft. After that I want to see about the mech situation with that mod. I already took a look and I get the impression that it's hard but doable. We will see when I'm on it. No promises though.

Aight. I'm already liking the mod. It's nice to have a chill sit down with the crew, without them gettin too far out [and me having to move a little to bring em back].

I have another idea. I noticed that there was crew scanning stuff and saying that. What if we controlled that, and made a magnifying glass that works exactly like the point [same interaction mechanic], and use it to have the crew talk about it.

its a shame there's no crew mod that you could promote into a co captain, or an assistant whom stays closer, doesn't wander off, or does, but closer to the player, and some extra features like increased stats. Imagine, said co capt that gets 2 [or more depending on current cap] crewmembers beside them, and will follow them.

I have noticed that escort npcs have an interesting teleport to player mechanic, much more different from crew teleports. Teleporting only if the distance is too long, and also somehow teleporting to the middle of the tram on a rail, and not close by, running towards the tram and stopping. What would happen if said teleportation was transferred to crews as well?

Don't know if I can find a safe way to do it, because one has to be careful about every condition being checked in the behavior tree and their order (crews have a lot more things to check, especially with this mod). But sure I can take a look at it on my next pass.
