HELP! Game won't launch in Steam
I feel like I'm missing something. EaW: Gold Pack (base game and FoC) will not Launch in Steam. I feel like a setting, port, SOMETHING, is or isn't clicked and is causing this. I'll explain.

The Backstory: I downloaded the new AOTR 2.11 when it launched. It played great! about 2 weeks ago my laptop got a corrupted file on the HDD, would Blue Screen of Death before Windows (10) would even load. The only fix was a complete wipe of the HDD, and reload the base OS (windows 7). I updated back to Windows 10, downloaded all updates, updated all drivers, re-installed Steam, updated Steam, re-installed EaW Gold Pack, updated, re-installed 2.11 and NOW when I hit the Launch button in Steam, it tries to start the game and then the green Launch button pops back up.

Here is what I have tried, that hasn't worked, prior to posting this:
1. Restarting my computer
2. Tried starting in 32 bit and 64 bit. (this fixed this problem the first time after the 64 bit update hit)
3. Verified the Game Files in Steam
4. Clearing my Download Cache
5. Launching directly into the mod by putting " STEAMMOD=1397421866" in the launch options in the General game Settings
6. Uninstalled/Re-Installed the game/updates/Mod
7. Uninstalled/R-Installed Steam
8. Defragged my Hard Drive
9. Turned off Window's Firewalls
10. Turned off antivirus software as well as malware/spyware software
11. checked for updates for graphics card

The games will launch from the EXE files but the Mod won't launch, or I can't figure out how to get the mods to load from launching the game from the EXE file.

What am I missing here? I'd rather not Yeet this laptop and have to purchase another one if I don't have to. I find it odd that the game/mod worked just fine, starting from Steam, prior to the corrupted file that set this all off, so I know I have to just be missing something, but what?

To quote a famous princess: "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi? You're my only hope!"

I guess somethign exotic ? , e.g. google found this for me : https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/32470/discussions/0/1496741765139443561/)

Or perhaps try to set winxp compatibility + admin rights on the two exe files, maybe you'll get lucky ?

Do other games start ?

Are you sure all drivers are installed, does system report any missing (e.g. MB or sound drivers)?

Does steamapp have admin rights ?

You seem to have a space too much in " STEAMMOD=1397421866" ?

The EXE files have admin rights (game, expansion and steam), I re-downloaded a new game, Life is Strange, and it launches and plays from the Steam Launcher just fine. As of this morning, all drivers show installed and updated. I'll try the article and see if that fixes it as well check the spacing on the launcher.

Thank you for the help!

UPDATE: Okay, changing the names of the exe files worked! The mod now opens in Steam as it should! For those who might be confused on what exactly to do, you first must locate the actual downloaded files for EoW/FoC. Then locate the exe files. They will probably be in separate folders. Now, identify the application files (there are 2 of them). Normally, when you launch the game from main exe file it will launch but there is another exe file that when you try to launch the game it doesn't work. Mine we called "StarWarsG" (this had the game icon as the file icon for FOC) and "swfoc". All I did to fix this was to change the file name of "StarWarsG" to "swfoc" and vice versa. That's it. Now what was "StarWarsG" is now named "swfoc" and has the the game icon as the file icon.

Big shout-out to molchåmor for the assist on this. The article shared offered this fix and it works!
