STAR WARS™ Empire at War: Gold Pack

Awakening of the Rebellion 2.11.9: Jump To Hyperspace
I Love This Mod But Noticed Something Slightly Irksome
Before anyone decides to read this, play the mod yourself. It's worth the experience, and this isn't necessarily a review, it's just something I've noticed. Like, please, play the mod, it's great. Don't let what I say discourage you from playing this mod. Especially because its space combat mechanics are, at least I believe, unique to this mod. Now, with that being out of the way, let's get into what I've noticed.

I like that a lot of heart, and soul went into this mod. It's clear that a lot of work went into it, and it has some amazing mechanics. I just feel like the mod is only a challenge if you are not playing as the rebellion. Now, I've played Awakening of the Rebellion since 2.6. I have been a fan of the mod, and even though I have some gripes/disagreements I'll of course still support the mod. But, playing the Rebellion before actually felt like a challenge, as did playing The Empire. Both sides genuinely felt tactical, strategic, and challenging. I can't speak for the space pirates, as I've only played them in this update. But, I've played as all three factions. And, the Rebellion on hard feels easy, while the Rebellion on normal feels like I'm playing a game made for a game journalist. The Empire, and most certainly the Black Sun feel like I'm throwing paper mache at my enemy. I understand the Black Sun not being good at all, like I expect them to be worse than a Gungun army, but I feel like the Empire just doesn't compare in the slightest to the Rebels. It doesn't feel like a back and fourth where both sides are equal when playing the Rebellion. And, when I'm playing the Empire, I feel like I'm the Germans defending against the Soviets in the final stages of WW2. As the Rebels, I feel like Alexander the Great even on hard. Plug walking in, and just taking world's like they are almost nothing. Hell, I feel like Carolus Rex bullying the Russians. It just feels like there's a huge disconnect between playing the two. Then again, I also could be wrong. I could be missing something, and it could be that my play style just isn't suited for the other two factions in this mod. Which honestly is possible. Someone who plays as the black sun regularly who takes over the whole map will probably look at me like I'm an idiot. Which, truth be told I am. But, from what I've noticed, the Rebels seem exceptionally powerful, and it feels like a cake wall playing as them compared to other factions. At least for me.

I have to agree that rebels are by far the most powerful faction right now.
And i think it simply comes down to them having the best small stuff. They got the best fighters and the best corvettes, which is kind of everything you need to win right now.
Win the Fighter/Corvette engagement and you have basically won the battle, except for a few cases.

Which makes early game as the empire especially difficult since they mostly have tools to only deal with large targets. You NEED to rush the tech to get Gladiators, Star Galleons and Ton-Falks to stand a fighting chance early and mid game, to deal with the fighters and corvettes.
Use the Tie-bombers with their assault missiles to focus down the corvettes. Tie-Fighters to, well, tie down the enemy fighters and hit them with flak.

The opposite is true for ground combat, where Rebels struggle a lot and the Empire can just clean house from day one.

It is a bit odd that the empire, which is designed for brute force, has to creative with its ships and fleet setup.
Meanwhile the rebels can kind of go brute force with their small ship advantage.

Haven't played too much with the black sun. If i play against them, they just die. If i play as them. i just die.
Playing as Rebels on Expert is a pretty good time.
Playing as Empire on Expert is a bloody struggle to keep up

I have to agree with you. Fighter superiority will always win the day in really any mod. And, corvettes and other small ships seem really powerful. Though, I actually haven't had too many issues with the Rebellion in ground combat, even against the empire. I usually clean house completely. Though, I do notice the Empire does it much better when playing as them.

Mostly it is because with fighters and corvettes you only have to worry about lasers and (heavy) lasercannons, concussion and assault missiles. Nothing else can touch them. They are basically immune to 90% of the weapons in the game.
4 Cr90 can take out an ISD without any losses. It just takes a while.
Before they changed the station defense to a random fleet, i would routinely take out the empires attacking fleet of 5 or so ISD with just a level 1 space station and the two CR90 + two Hammerhead it spawned.
Of course i had to focus on the enemy fighters and bombers first, but then the ISD were easy pickings for the corvettes.
