Unable to Save Game
Hi there, been having this problem for a few major patch versions now and it still persists to the current version.

I go to start a campaign with the mod and everything is running fine, i do some battles both manual and auto alike with no problems. But then i try to save the game while on the campaign galaxy map and it just sits there forever saying "Saving" but it never finishes saving...nor does it freeze the game or crash, just forever in "Saving".

Has anyone got a clue as to how i solve this issue?

how full is your hard drive?, how old is your computer ?, when was the last time u had a physical cleaning of your computer? , is your computer meant for gaming or office work?
if your PC over 75% that could be reason.
if computer over 3-5 years old it might not be able to run the workshop expiation
if u don't take you computer in to get it clean it could cause many problems like path ways being burnt out, pc over heating, etc ..u should have your pc clean at least 1 year also pc shop may find something wrong with your pc
if your pc meant for office work it might not be able to run workshop expiation
that might be some reason that u cant save or its taking for ever to saved

My computer is a desktop gaming PC with a plentiful hard drive for all my games, the computer is upgraded every couple of years and kept up to date with all of it's various requirements met at all times. It's clean both in and out and my PC is very much well in excess of any and all requirements this game could ever ask for even with mods and all their increased demands.

This mod was working just fine a few big versions back and then suddenly it just has this issue now, I've tried unsubscribing from the mod and making sure the game was reinstalled with not a single file or folder left behind from the old installation before putting it all back in and nothing seems to have made even the slightest difference.

This mod needs indeed a bit of "firepower" from your hardware.

But: while playing under Win7/Win10, don't forget to start the game with admin-rights (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars Empire at War\runme2.exe -> properties -> compatibiliy mode -> run as admin). w/o this my game wasn't allowed to write data in the save folder.

So you think i should try running it like that directly from the folder itself rather than via steam with the mod path put into the games shortcut?

No, just set this option on file "runme2.exe". I start this mod via steam, too. It uses the before mentioned file and it's settings. After this, you should get a popup from the windows user control service, when starting the game via steam.

Oh and one other thing, does the steam setting of "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for applications which support it" have any bearing on it not saving perhaps? If this first idea doesn't work?

For me I can't tell, I deactivated cloud saving and have never tested it. I just keep my fingers crossed, the admin-mode works for you as for me.

Have you tried the suggestions mentioned in this thread?

two things turn off cloud save and don't save with the same name twice because it is taking time to rewrite the save file but a new one is quicker

Tried the above suggestions and it still wont ever finish saving

I found some old tips regarding loading of saves, dated back to AotR 2.5. Maybe some of them help with saving, too.

General hints with loading-freezes:
  • use fullscreen-mode, not windowed
  • don't have Vertical Sync enabled
  • never save in battles (galactic or ground)
  • never pause before saving
  • if freezing occurs, Alt+Tab out of the game -> wait until sound stops -> Alt+Tab into the game -> loading should start
