titan is almost identical to class S in the base game

I really enjoy this challenge, except it seems to not count the acquired metal anymore. As a result i am having a thriving 800 colonist colony and i have over 400 droids (so we know i acquired quite a bit of metal). The challenge never ends though.

If only the pathing/ai in the game was as good as this challenge, maybe i wouldn't have random suiciding colonists

I have an issue with your mod. it seems to be impossible to use items for trade that end up in the ship, and building storage doesn't get anything out of ship storage either.. Guns useless cant retrieve them and most everything, It seems I have to trade with what i make and can't use the ship stuff at all.. even for building..

the food would be what slams the game super hard on storage and on performance as well as this could kill ur colonists

My first question after the Release of Planetbase was: Why they do not develop a "Planet" like Saturn's Moon Titan?

@Jatlen - Comments like this will really help me improve on future challenges, while they may be released slowly. It will give me an opportunity to properly test them and try to see things from different perspectives. Anyone can make a challenge, but to make a good one is the real challenge.

I definitely understand about demolishing and rebuilding, even to this day I'm always doing that with my bases. I don't like the layout, or want to re-design pathing, order of buildings etc.

I'm really hoping to find the proper motivation here soon to finish my series of challenges i've been working on, then put on hold. Hoping they'll be a hit and provide a good series with a bit of a story-line too.

I completed your challenge, i liked it. I needed exactly 222 days and 22 hours, no joke :) I could have been faster, but i wanted a PERFECT colony :-)) I think i restarted about 5 times and even then i constantly demolished buildings and rebuilt them, i was never satisfied <sigh>. All in all i think the challenge was not to acquire 500 metal or 400 colonists, but to find enough space for the buildings. :) And of course it was a bit mean of you to give us 500 of each ... first buildings were 3 storages lol :)

@z4m0 - Usually the ingame music is a good que for me when the disaster has ended. For the life of me I honestly cannot remember if there is anything specific that says a disaster has ended. I'll look into that.

As far as buildable area, there are ways to build through, or on lakes. Takes patience and time though. Example is if you build a structure near the end of a lake, and another on the opposite side and they are close enough to make a connection, then land will appear underneath and solve some of that.

Cool concept!

However, I didn't have enough space to build a colony to reach 400 colonists. The map was full of frozen lakes or mountains. Is it possible to make it with more sapce?

Another question, how can I know when a blizzard has ended?

Thanks for the comment. I put plenty of idea forward but sadly I should have tested this challenge out to a finer detail so round out some things. But oh well, for now it's a good time killer challenge that isn't quite hard but not extremely easy.

The campaign of challenges i'm working on is taking a lot longer than I expected, i get so far, then change things, go back add stuff, remove etc. So mini break from that and I will be doing something different in between, maybe an overwhelming, or suicide challenge :)

Interesting challenge. Didn't think to keep my ship and had to frantically sell food to trading ships before it went bad.

Thank you Blooky. I'm slowly but surely working on a series of challenges based as a campaign, starting at easy all the way up to Overwhelming difficulty. It will take some time as a campaign to play them, test them etc. But to the point......a volcanic planet is in the works for that. Limited on what you can do with volcanic planets in this game but we will see what I come up with.

Thank you for answering. I definately plan to try this after my current game ends, since one of my favorite games (Hardwar: The Future is Greedy) was based on Titan.

@Expers: In the normal game (no mods/challenges etc) regardless of which planet i've tried if my welfare is good and prestige is good i'll also have 3-6 starports that bring in many ships and frequently. The awesome thing about challenges is you can do so much with them and change anything you want just about. So while I wanted Titan to be a challenge, I wanted some realism into it as well. But realism only goes so far when it's this game :)

Thanks for the comment and hope you like the challenge when/if you try it out. I could always make a hard to oberwhelming version of this challenge also based off factors like you mentioned.

I haven't tried this yet, however considering how remote Titan is wouldn't supply ships take longer to reach, assuming there is no jump engines that are accurate enough to jump places other than the system's star?

Updated. This will have to do for now. Going on a vacation for a few days and still waiting for new desktop arrive.

In the mean time, i'll be working on a campaign of sorts with some challenges. Will test them all out as well :) They'll range from easy to very hard.

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately no when I made this I was unable to test it, but clearly I should have. Work has been busy and my desktop has crashed and only just now able to back up all my files to the laptop. Going to probably tweak metal to 500 down from 1000 and probably increase frequency of ships by a small amount, doesn't need to be much.

Welfare/prestige those factors I have no control over ultimately. Welfare of base will decide on if colonists arrive etc which i'm sure you already know. Probably will upload update here soon.

Next series of challenges I do will definitely be tested. This is all new to me and I have a lot to learn creating them properly and testing them. Thanks again.

Needs a bit of balancing to take into account the retarded AI: Colonists won't move their lazy butt out to the colony ship to get vegetables until they're orange hungry and then have a 50% of starving to death before their meal is done. Also creating a huge storage does not make colonists/bots bring in all the goods from the recycled colony ship.

Frequency of colonist ships also needs tweaking as naturally your base has a bad status in the beginning. No one wants to come, I have been sitting on the same amount of colonists for nearly an hour at 4x game speed...

Have you tested your own challenge to see if you can complete it?

Okay so as of right now one of the main updates to this challenge based on 1 feedback so far would be the Metal challenge being set at 1000. It seems due to a combination of game mechanics and also challenge setup that 1000 metal will take a very long time to acquire. This is because trade ships are set to normal game parameters. No increased landings and all types arrive.

I will be waiting for some additional feedback and considering options to adjust the challenge. So far I had in mind, 500 metal rather than 1000, or increase frequency of ships arriving by a fair amount. Or a combination of both. We shall see.

Thanks for the comment. Naturally after a day and coming back to it I see things I want to change already, but I will leave it and learn from it. Such as didn't know about the (hls? sp?) code to alter other aspects of terrain etc. Very interesting things can be done and i'm excited to add more in the future.

Updated already. Realized description in game and also on workshop did not reflect starting resources or other important factors. Hope this helps. Reminder, don't recycle colonist ship until it's cleared of resources. Otherwise lag and worst case a crash could happen.

This is my first challenge and first workshop item uploaded. Go easy on me, I may be pretty good at Planetbase, but creating a challenge from start to finish and having it run smoothly is another thing. Please feel free to leave any comments for improvements or anything really. Thank you.
