Really fun level; thank you.

Quite a doozy of a level, I spent the first 10 minutes just looking for the first cube, I thought it was unbeatable!

I like that the map has some character throughout it. It's a bit plain, but hey, if it's based on your dream, I guess that's what it was. I needed to turn off my music to solve it, but nbd. Great job.

I enjoyed playing your level!

You need to read a nice relaxing book before bedtime ... maybe some warm milk. ;) But don't drink it out of a Qbeh-1 coffee mug! :)

4 now!

I dreamed about Qbeh-1 3 times now!!
Mrs Ellie 28 Feb, 2016 @ 1:57pm
I wasn't able to get the door with the three keys open.
I have dreamed about Qbeh 1 too!
Maybe a light cube or something like a path on the floor to hint where the blue cube is hidden? That room is pretty full. I'll try the level again.

Also @Mrs Ellie
Have you completed this level?
MK  [author] 28 Feb, 2016 @ 1:38pm
@Mrs Ellie (btw I do that when it's unclear who I might be talking to)
Well the problem with this level is if I modified it too much (added more rooms and hallways at the beginning or near the checkpoint or something like that) it wouldn't be based on my dream anymore.
Also btw I have dreamed about Qbeh-1 twice now.

@Ellie I am familiar with this kind of puzzles, that's why it was doable for me. Don't be so harsh on yourself, you ain't bad!
Mrs Ellie 28 Feb, 2016 @ 8:43am
@Limboh - You make my player skills look so bad! ;)
Fair for Limboh = impossibly hard for Ellie
Achievable for Ellie - most anyone can get through it.
Limboh 28 Feb, 2016 @ 8:38am
I liked the puzzles and thought they were fair. I actually solved the first one by sound.

When players get confused, try adding lots more direction. Also, try breaking the skill up into smaller pieces - for example, start with listening for a 1-cube door to open. :)
The secret is to think like a teacher - because levels are classrooms. I am a teacher, so that helps immensely.

When you introduce a brand new skill, the level needs to do so very gradually; I did that in World 7 Levels 4 and 6 and the Doors Tutorial level. I knew I would have to drop the player right in to a small area where there were no other options and make it VERY easy the first time, then gradually ramp up the difficulty. In W7 L4, I boxed the player in forced them to go through the mechanic the first time, then tried to make my directions really plain and obvious, then forced them into the mechanic over and over through the rest of the game. It is a very counter-intuitive mechanic, so I really worked at introducing it very, very slowly with lots of encouragement for the player.

Also, what it seems might be happening with this level is that people get confused because no one expects this type of puzzle because it's so different from the main game. I play a lot of point & click and room escapes so I made puzzles like that in Qbeh but then people don't get it because it's supposed to be a 3D platformer type game I assume that's what happened.

If you're talking about the 3*3 grid, there is no hinting grid for that one (see my previous post).
Mrs Ellie 28 Feb, 2016 @ 8:11am
It would be easier for the player if the hinting grid is in the same room as the activation cubes; clear direction is a really good thing. :)
Mrs Ellie 28 Feb, 2016 @ 8:09am
I found the blue cube; it was really, really hard to find - you might consider placing it more out in the open and making the location a secret area instead because it is SO hard to find.
I could not open the multi-cube door; no indicators. It would probably be enough to have to check the door visually since it isn't in view and you have to travel to it a few steps, rather than having it turned 90 degrees.
Mrs Ellie 28 Feb, 2016 @ 8:09am
Remember that frustrating the player with too difficult gameplay is no fun; also, you might consider training the player in the skill gradually and with encouragement along the way, going from easy to medium difficulty to hard - not just starting with nearly impossible! :)
It must have been am interesting dream!

3*3 lock: The wrong ones activate platforms which (unlike doors) don't make a sound. The ones that make a sound when you put cube on them are correct.
2*6 lock: The 3 cubes in the middle room from the doors room are the ones to activate. The grid in the left room shows which activator cubes match up with the different carved cubes.
Limboh 28 Feb, 2016 @ 7:45am
A very strange but interesting level. Was there any way of knowing which three of the 12 switches I was supposed to activate? I made it by trial and error and paying attention to the door but it feels like I was supposed to know somehow. Same thing for the 3 by 3 lock.

I didn't get stuck anywhere and liked the overall design and atmosphere, except for the music. It got repetitive and obnoxious pretty quick, one of my least favorite songs of the soundtrack.

Yep, it's in the world 6 based room
Mrs Ellie 23 Feb, 2016 @ 6:02pm
I couldn't find a blue cube anywhere. Is there one?
MK  [author] 23 Feb, 2016 @ 3:23pm
I hope this level actually works
