@Stollie I have some updates coming that include some of the changes you have listed. Not sure when it'll be out though.

@Kage - Hi mate, love this mod, so good for pirating in EEM mod :D

Any chance you can make some additions to it?

1.) An options file to do settings, like increase hacking speed? (so I can make it OP instead of pasting 6 computers down)

2.) Could you also get it to show current actions in the panel on the right when you''re looking at it, i.e. 'Hacking available block 3/32 - Interior Turret'

3.) Have a prority list you can select what to hack first? i.e. weapons -> reactors -> flight chair

If that's too much stuff, could you please tell me where in the script I might just change it's hacking speed for my own local use?

1) it's a technical issue.
2) no idea if the ModAPI changes will affect this mod yet, haven't looked at them yet, I will update it though.

Two quick questions.
1) Is the inability to hack blocks of a grid via a connector grid a technical issue or a balance issue?
2) Are the coming ModAPI changes going to affect this mod?

Can you make a gui so players can target blocks to be hacked and to offset it the hacking time will incress

Great modification.
I noticed an error was probably caused by the modification.
When connected to a computer hacking acquired the ship (after the acquisition) when grinding turrets game is closed. This does not happen always, but always stakach that I started using a computer hacking and wants to change the turret (you have to ask them damage for instance small arms and only then can grind).

SE UPDATE QUESTION:
since landing gears now kinda semi-merge two grids to assist in battling the dark lord clang, does this mean, could it be tested ot see if you can hack through landing gear now? aka: make a hacking missile?

+Jokerace45, yes it must be built on ths ship you wish to hack. The hacking block must be owned (if it is owned by nobody then it won't hack anything). And the blocks must be owned by an enemy to the owner of the hacking block.

What is the range for hackign that this thing has ? or does it even have a range ? Does it need to be placed then on the ship.

would it be possible to make a scaled down handheld version? like a hacking tool instead of using a grinder, that will run the smae time consuming and chance based hacking system but form a players handheld wepon and only at the block your aiming at?...

maybe a turreted (player controll only?) wireless antenna-style hacker block for ships to wirelessly hack enemy ships, obviously maybe requiring some kind of antenna connection and more time, but this hacker block could counteract it?

just throwing out some possibilites for E-war when this is nolonger alpha maybe?

I tried it on the Earth Easy Start station, the blocks aren't mine but they are friendly, that might have to do with it... will try it on actual enemy grids later.

It might be because I have a load of mods, but this mod doesn't seem to work on my current space engineers version (01_0132_011); simply doesn't do anything, even with 10 of them on the same grid set to my ownership, after 2 hours there was not a single block hacked. Couldn't find logs in the Storage folder either. Perhaps it broke with a recent mod api update?

How would I get it to hack a pirate base? Just place and build it, or attach it via connector.

This kinda strategy honestly favors all kinds of ships. Lighter ships like fighters can easily stay out of range or escape, medium ships can stay out of range, but can handle the fewer times they may enter range, and the heavy ships can handle being within range and destroy the hacking ship.

If it only has 500m range, a ship with turrets can skirt outside the effective range given proper propulsion. This strategy of staying out of range can heavily underpower the hacking blocks, and onboard blocks can repair what damage the enemy blocks do.

Well the range could be balanced by giving it at the very most only 500m range. Also given that hacking blocks can countereffect enemy hacker blocks and that they already hack pretty slowly the best balancing factors are low range and slightly slower hacking speed (maybe by a multiple of 0.5)

@MrEvan312 Yes, but it would be rather overpowered. Having to build it on the grid you wish to hack is a balancing option.

I am looking into the option of ranged hacking within my next mod, but if I will include it will depend on how I feel about how it would affect the balance of the game.

So glad this is up to date. I was thinking of trying this on a "Flood" halo ship concept. Flood ships infect and take over other ships by using their spores, but this would fill the same function and make the Flood ship pretty dangerous.

Ok, the mod has been updated and should be working again. An updated version with custom models is still planned when ever I am able to get around to it.

I am successfully raiding so many ships now, the main problem back then was lack of control over doors and resource bins, but now, with this, I took complete control of a bunch of ships, which I turned into a Defense Battalion. Dont stop making these mods, they help everyone!

I also tried it out on my planet survival world: got the materials, changed the ownership and attached the hacking computer, it hacked everything back exept for the reactor, which was turned off and contained 44 Kg of uranium :-| but I didn't lose all my stuff grinding it down and back up again therefore I don't understand why people say that now you lose the stuff from containers when you try to get ownership by grinding/welding.

Awesome mod, tried it out in creative putting 10 computers or so on the argentarvis pirate ship (LOL 3 of them spawned all near to each other). It worked great and I was able to recover the drone script: it was very short, only 30 lines or so, contained in 2 programmable blocks (I guess 1 was for navigating the ship towards a detected player and 1 for spawning drones when a player is detected, the small drone script might be longer).

I want to capture the NPC bases on planets, and every time I can't capture the programmable blocks without destroying the programs on them. Will this allow me to capture the program blocks and be able to save the coding on them?

booker dewitt, it isnt wireless hacking, it only hacks the grid it is on. the only benefit of having it on your own ship is that if someone grinds down a door or other items and make it theirs, the hacking block will quickly rehack it to you.

is this broken? i have a ship with about 10 hacking blocks less than 50 meters away from an enemy ship and nothing is happening. has been sat there doing nothing for about 30 mins? am i doing something wrong?
All hacking computers are owned by me, other ship is owned by space pirates, i put a control panel onto the pirate ship to see the things getting hacked, none.
