If the developer would like to do this himself that would also be appreciated.
We swapped to Dynamic Color Mod as suggested, however this is also not being updated, I assume as they were compatible something could be done to tide users of both mods over until release.
@Nyremis
One question if you ahve the time to answer, if I keep this mod without changing, will it continue to function as is, except for the obvious lack of colour on 'official' future additions to the game ?
Cheers!
Best regards,
Malkiziv
Thank you for giving people a heads up on taking the mod down, so that we can move things over to a new mod without issues. I have a question that's kind of related, and likely doesn't have a good answer. Is there any way to convert color mod over to vanilla dinos? I know it's possible to change the spawns over but is there any way to convert existing, tamed, dinos over that you can think of?
The lack of modder support doesn't seem likely to change at any point soon. I've been digging about in our server's save file locally and it seems like it SHOULD be possible, but haven't had much luck as of yet.
So I fully understand it's beyond your control right now. I was just double checking to make sure it wasn't another issue of our server being... weird.
Thanks for clarifying things, saving my sanity, and for your efforts with this mod.
As soon as the devkit is updated I will resolve this as fast as humanly possible. Its been roughly 14-16 days since the last devkit update so its literally out of my hands.
1. It creates some beautiful dinosaurs.
2. Our server has had a few saving issues that have had side effects with a few things. It's resulted in some oddities. This is not the norm.
If you want colourful dinos, this mod is amazing. It's one of the first things new players mention, and every single player on the server have amazing looking dinos because of it. It's well worth using.
I'm not sure if it's something anyone else has experienced, or if it's just another in a lengthy list of quirks that our server is managing to cook up. It only happened, I think, since v219 was released, so it might be that there have been some changes that have yet to make it through to the dev kit just yet, but I thought I'd ask about it here, in case anyone has any ideas/similar experiences/ideas on how to resolve the issue.
Examples:
Vanilla Female Carbo: http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=535791750
Spawned Colored Carbo: http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=535791695
No mating occurs even though they are literally humping each other. and all the exact same setup is on vanilla server and proven working.
SpawnWeightMultiplier=10.0,
OverrideSpawnLimitPercentage=true,
SpawnLimitPercentage=0.5)"
Ok, here is an example above, as you can see they use DinoNameTags to make chanes to the spawn weights. All the colored Dinosaurs in my mod use the default DInoNameTags so if you want to increase the number of Alphas you would need their DinoNameTags: Elite Carno, Elite Raptor, and Elite Rex. Just place it in the above and adjust it as needed.
It is a shame about the Pachy and Giganto, but I realise that it's only fixable by doing a server wipe, which I'm sure we'll need to do eventually. When we do we'll put the full colour goodness back in place, because it really is awesome.
One more question. Is there any way to increase the numbers of alphas on Carno Island. It looks like the DinoSpawnWeightMultipliers command is the command I'm looking for, but it looks like these use names rather than the tags, so Anky instead of Ankylo_RCM_BP_C. Is there any way I can get this working with the alphas you've added at all?
Yes, if you replaced the colored versions that the mod spawns with vanilla ones using the .ini file that should definitely fix your issue and it helps you avoid a wipe if that is not a viable option, the only downside is that you will not have colored versions for the pachy or the ape. I hope this helps you out.
I have a question for you. I've mentioned a few times about the Pachy issue. We've now noticed the same issue now happening with the apes, and I realise that this isn't something that you can fix on your end, but I've come up with a potential solution that might suit our needs.
I know it's possible to replace instances of one dino with another, which should be doable by tweaking the server config, replacing the colour mod versions of the two dinos with the vanilla ones shouldn't it? And this shouldn't, in theory, cause any issues with the existing tamed dinos should it? I'm mainly aiming to provide a solution that works for our server players as a server wipe isn't currently an option for us. Thanks in advance for any input/wisdom you can share.
^ Vanilla spawns for Quetzals just so everyone is aware, it seems only 4 are spawning ever. They have the spawn rates for the new dinosaur set extremely low. So, if you are having trouble finding them its because there are 4 out of 20k dinosaurs.
So there you go guys, until he changes his mind, does it himself, or he lets another author color them I can't do anything. I at least figured I would give you guys an update on it regardless.
Before some people said new dinosaurs spawned and others complained that they didn't no matter what they tried. So, its hard to tell which was the case. This way 100% guarantees that the newly added dinosaurs will spawn, because the only spawner I have made changes to is carnivore island and they have yet to add a new dinosaur for that spawner.
With regards to the weights, I've not really had much of a chance to check them out just yet. I updated the mod for our server, but haven't been able to play too much just yet. I have let our server's know that feedback on this is wanted though, so I should have some input on things in the near future for you.
Before I had it to where they had a chance to spawn, which helped limit how many spawned, but in that case some people still had trouble coming across an Alpha due to RNG. By the way how are you liking the random weights that I added to the colors? Are you noticing any differences in the colors are you are coming across? Like more random colors and variety?
To your other question, you have to make custom spawns for alphas currently to spawn when you remap their normal variants, every color mod is doing this. If they state other wise they are misleading you. As they would not need custom spawns at all for a color mod if that wasnt the case. You can also check this for yourself by opening up the mods and seeing if they have spawners in the files.
Its hard to isolate the problem without knowing load order and mods you are using. I am using my color variety mod on my server and using this one in single player with no issues. I imagine there is a conflict with another mod or anothrr mod automatically updated since the 27th.
I've been using this mod since first release, never any real issues. Since the major official Ark update '"v2.16" all coloured dinos tamed and untamed have vanished from my server, however I have not updated/altered this or any other mods on my server since Sep 27 when it was working perfectly last.
Any updated files from the workshop would have downloaded to my system automatically so do you reckon it is because my local and server versions of this mod are different? It's not a big problem since my server is stilli in testing for balancing with mods etc. but any feedback would be much appreciated so I can try avoiding this in the future.
Thanks
The delays in getting newer dinos could be an issue though, with things like the new biomes looming over us right now. Pretty much everyone I know is currently super hyped to get their hands on the dire wolves.
It's a real shame that making colours work is such a pain for the Alpha versions of dinos. With the game being Early Access is there any way for you to provide feedback to the game devs on this matter at all? I could see the standard/alpha connection being quite the pain for other modders, not just yourself.
