@Bungd-up can you up-date the Highway pis use 2 lane highway
Bungd-up  [author] 14 Mar, 2024 @ 2:02pm
@Audi R8

I don't plan on updating the map further since much of the city still doesn't fit on it (It's VERY spread out/sprawled for its size due to the history of it), and was intended more as a "Make your own layout" type of map.

Nice that is great to hear for investment properties in the surrounding area.

Correction: ground on the tower complex was broken about 2 weeks ago, back in mid-March
Bungd-up  [author] 27 Mar, 2022 @ 2:24pm
Forgot I'd made this...

Yea, development here has been absolutely bonkers over covid. I think at peak there were 11 cranes up simultaneously at different sites across the city. Still booming too. Ground's about to break on a dual-tower & condo complex downtown, and a whole bunch of other apartment and condo projects are going through proposal or approval processes right now. Even the University is building its' own residential subdivision.

has kamloops done the things you thought they would as far as the downtown?
JD 21 Mar, 2022 @ 6:30pm
dope!

Don't discount it, Kamloops' population was significantly higher than Kelowna from founding until the early 1990's when Kelowna had a boom. The same thing can happen here, just need the right circumstances and investment in development.

So many great ideas! I'm just worried that no one will move in, Kamloops is so old, and getting older; not a lot of potential jobs for younger families either. Kamloops has always been such a suburban town. Densifying, while I'd love to see it happen, might not be well accepted by the general public.
Bungd-up  [author] 4 Apr, 2017 @ 8:16pm
I agree. I think West End would make a good 'old town' - sort of an outdoor shopping mall vibe. Victoria Street up to 5th is already mostly that, but more can't hurt. Value Village sounds like it'll be knocked down when they move to make room for mixed use. Hopefully there's a public parkade in the design. The old Daily News site (Or the original location of Kamloops' HBC department store, if you wanna go waaay back) would be a good spot.

There was a plan for underground parking with the PAC design but the problem with the original PAC is that it didn't include any living space or any commercial storefronts. If they added a condo tower off to one side, a rooftop park on top of the PAC itself, and a bunch of stores at street level and brought the design back I'd totally be throwing my vote at it.

I think tearing down the old Daily News Building and making a parking garage would be well needed for downtown, for some reason fiding parking is a hassle, especailly at night when everyone goes to the bars and restaurants. Also densifying the strip of Seymour out there would be nice too, it's a bit sketchy as is right now.

I would lke to see Kamloops develop an "old town" vibe on the west side, near city hall and those historic buildings on Victoria and Seymour near 1st and 2nd. make a pseudo old buildings out of brick and making it Victorian would be disireable upgrades! Then closer to and 4th. 5th, and 6th densifying with taller apartment buildings, and some new shops and another grocer. hopefully the excess supply of apatments will lower the unessesary high cost of renting in this town! :/

They just need to stop being so attached to all the old railway houses to be honest. I understand that they represent about 150 years of history, but a lot of them are falling down, full of drug addicts, and just preventing downtown from becoming bigger and better. They take up a lot of east side downtown area without really contributing much.

If they can get over the idea that revitalizing downtown will require knocking a lot of them down to put up new points of interest or mixed use development, then that's really the biggest hurdle to making it lively again.

haha bryce a lively downtown in kamloops lol i would love that but i doubt it'll happen lol
bryce_giordano 3 Mar, 2017 @ 9:35pm
haha, that would add realism, but I quite like it greener! Maybe I can make downtown something lively and maybe more dense, which I would like to see irl, but I don't see that happening sadly :(
Bungd-up  [author] 27 Feb, 2017 @ 7:23pm
It is haha! I recommend using it with Owl's Los Angeles theme for proper effect. I'll perhaps go back and update the pictures to match.
bryce_giordano 27 Feb, 2017 @ 11:24am
its so much greener than the real one!

Now with 100% more polite, chore-doing Newfie burglars!
Warwizard_Rahl 13 Jun, 2015 @ 10:30pm
This is awesome! I can re-build cherry ave! haha
Bungd-up  [author] 6 Apr, 2015 @ 5:00pm
This was largely thanks to terrain.party, I just smoothed out a lot of the crazy terrain tearing it tends to cause.

Damn... I was really wanting to re-create our town in this game, but I suck at using the editor tools, seeing this made my day.
Bungd-up  [author] 28 Mar, 2015 @ 8:46pm
That and they're apparently finally doing work with TRU to design a reclaimation program, whereas before KGHM was playing all talk and no action.
Bungd-up  [author] 28 Mar, 2015 @ 8:42pm
Yea and no. KGHM redrafted the Ajax plans quite a bit. There'll probably be a few that still go, but I think most people are willing to accept it now that there won't be a giant 300 metre tailings pile overshadowing the city. Personally I'm still a little on the hesitant side, but I'll admit some of the changes make it a lot less objectionable.
Wiegraf Folles 28 Mar, 2015 @ 8:04pm
No kidding? Well I guess a lot of people are likely to leave when that new mine goes up...
Bungd-up  [author] 26 Mar, 2015 @ 9:49pm
You should see Bachelor and Juniper Ridge now. Pretty much all housing at this point. Population really blew up in the last 10 years.
Wiegraf Folles 26 Mar, 2015 @ 3:23am
Yeah I seem to remember it started getting nicer around 2001 or so. Haven't lived in Kamloops for a long time but it was cool to see this map.
Bungd-up  [author] 25 Mar, 2015 @ 12:14pm
Nice, downtown has really improved as of late. I actually wouldn't mind moving thereabouts, given the chance.
Wiegraf Folles 25 Mar, 2015 @ 11:35am
I lived downtown, in Valleyview, Westsyde, and Brock. I even lived out in Cherry Creek for a while!
Bungd-up  [author] 25 Mar, 2015 @ 11:01am
Right on! What part of town were/are you in Wiegraf? Out in Westsyde myself. Couldn't get the 5x5 expanded map to go as far as my house, and believe me I tried :P
Wiegraf Folles 25 Mar, 2015 @ 7:04am
Wow my hometown is in a video game. Never thought I'd see the day.
CheeseToucher 20 Mar, 2015 @ 6:10pm
It's like I'm there!
