Gendered Genes 2

Is there a way to add more 'sexes' through this? For instance, some reptiles have the ZW/ ZZ sex determination system, instead of mammals' XX/ XY system. However, for a long time I've wanted to roleplay a species of ZW women who can reproduce asexually as well as sexually. ZW x ZW (asexually) would be 50% chance ZW (female), 25% WW (female, usually non-viable in most reptile species), and 25% ZZ (male). So I'm wondering if your mod would allow something like this? The WW would also be able to reproduce asexually and with males (ZZ) but ofc with ZZ males, the only child they'd produce would be ZW, and if WW reproduced sexually they'd only create WW women.

Amazing mod, nothing more to say. I always found the lack of depth in Biotech genes a bit disappointing and lack of sexual dimorphism was one of the reasons.

@GarryFlowers, I did that and the Hermamorph gene enables a pawn to change there gender by using the ability, sort of like frogs can.

It's a cool idea your mod, but being the first to do anything like it, I've a feeling it's going to have a lot of compatibility issues with other mods...

I'm using Custom Xenotype Exporter Tool to create my own xenotypes and factions, but any gendered genes give me an error. Xenotypes in the custom tab don't have this issue, how should I go about editing the Xenotype file so that it works?

Ex:
Could not resolve cross-reference to Verse.GeneDef named AG_AntlerHorns_GG2_MaleOnly (wanter=genes)

@raz334 i dunno what a herma-morph does but the buttons only being at the top in the xenotype creation screen is working as intended. Simply add the genes you want and then set the gender afterwards ^^

the genes added by Big and Small do not work with this.
IE: I set herma-morph to a specific gender, and both genders ended up with it at character creation.

@raz334 Please be more specific, what symptom does the compatibility issue cause?
raz334 26 Aug @ 3:25pm
Compatibility issue found for sure with Big and Small, the Hermaphrodite gene and probably others since it adds alot of gene's (150 of them.)

dont know why, but the icon for M and F, does not display over the top of the genes in the bottom of my list, but does display in the top thankfully.
I suspect it might be the mod that creates a scroll bar in the top section, but that doesn't actually alter the bottom at all that i know of...
here is my mod list: https://rentry.co/6s9qivx7
its quite long.

I have not test it, but the suspect is: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2890795292%20packageId:%20mlie.nomissinggeneicons

i use rimsort. so i updated it before technically starting the game. maybe it didn't fully install the first time but im not so sure thats how it works

this morning i updated my mod list, and figured id check out if you left a change log on account of seeing some comments on performance. i started a game and went into the xenotype editor and notice some lag, but it was -alot- less than before. i then went to check where it was in the mod list and after moving down its been smooth.

For my previous comment: i tried loading this as the first mod in my list or the last mod and was not able to find a difference in performance using dubs performance analyzer during gameplay and the xenotype editor is silky smooth. are you sure your tps improvement is not related to when i pushed an update for performance earlier in response to the comment by Sledjer? restarting the game when you changed your load order may have caused the update to the mod to be loaded when you started the game again, resulting in the improvement that you saw. either way thank you for testing and your feedback. will still have to look into those traits
GarryFlowers  [author] 25 Aug @ 2:02pm
@Mettanoia thanks for the feedback, i'll look into it tomorrow at the earliest. When you're talking about improvements on tps when loading it near the bottom of the list, does that mean there are performance issues if loaded earlier?
Mettanoia 25 Aug @ 11:05am
Hey Gary, really cool concept for a mod. i tested everything you said, after making sure its loaded after anything that adds or changes genes. i have a few notes.

I noticed a definite improvement on tps, specifically after making sure to put it as close to the bottom of the list as possible, both in the xenotype editor and in world. I'm still running into problems with generation, it more consistent than the original version of the mod for things like cosmetic and skills. however genes that affect traits* are not generating properly and both sexes will still have it on occasion**.

*tough, abrasive, flirty etc.

**this could be an issue with pawn editor because babies spawned using dev mode do gen properly with a fair bit more consistency, not always but definitely more often.

hope this helps.

@Sledjer Alright, should be fixed now. If anyone is still experiencing performance issues, please re-download the mod if it hasn't happened automatically yet
GarryFlowers  [author] 25 Aug @ 1:12am
@Sledjer ok, i have tested this mod with several mods that add more genes and was able to verify performance issues during gameplay as well as in the xenotype creation screen going to work on this now. If you know of any more then please comment and again thanks for pointing this out early
GarryFlowers  [author] 25 Aug @ 12:50am
@Sledjer that sounds bad, I'll have to look into it. Can you tell me when you experience the performance issues? Is it during gameplay? xenotype creation screen? when a large raid tries to show up? when loading/starting the game? when loading a save? thanks for pointing it out
Sledjer 24 Aug @ 3:02pm
I think you might need to do a compatibility performance pass on this. When running a modlist with lots of added genes, this mod makes the game run so slow it's barely playable. I don't remember there being such an issue with the old mod, so there may be an issue with the new system.
