Gendered Genes 2

Description
Features
Adds some sexual dimorphism to xenotypes by making it possible to have a gene only apply to one gender, or leave it at the default vanilla way of applying the gene to everyone of that xenotype. If a gene is not applicable to a pawn due to this it is merely deactivated, meaning that these genes are still inheritable as normal, keeping their gender information. If a gene has a prerequisite, like bloodfeeder, then the prerequisite must be unisex, otherwise it won't count.

To set the gender for a gene simply click the little buttons to the left of the gene in the xenotype creation dialog window. The "/" is for unisex (default, applied to both genders as in vanilla), "M" is male only and "F" is for female only.

FAQ
Q: Why not update the old mod to include this as a 1.6 version?
A:
- This mod works with a completely different approach from the previous version
- This mod behaves differently in a lot of ways
- The visuals are different
- The versions are not compatible between save games

For these reasons I decided that posting this as a sequel was better

Q: What's different to the previous version?
A:
- Better visuals
- Changes to how genes are deactivated/overridden
- Male and female pawns of the same xenotype should always have the same metabolism
- Works better with other mods that move genes around
- Added dependency on Vanilla Expanded Framework

Q: Can it be added to or removed from an existing save?
A:
Adding: Probably
Removing: I don't recommend it
Either way: Always back up your save file. Be responsible.

Q: How do genes override each other when gendered genes are involved?
A:
If one gene is male only and one is female only then they can't override each other. One will still be deactivated depending on a pawns gender, but both will always contribute to metabolism. Otherwise it's just like vanilla, though in the xenotype creation screen gendered genes will always show as not being overridden, which is just a visual bug. It will work correctly in the game. (This means a male only gene can override a unisex gene, even if they are on a female pawn and vice versa)

@bellrahc - IIRC I had a similar issue with the old version a while back. The problem was due to old files in the Xenotypes folder (Appdata/LocalLow/Ludeon/Rimworld/Xenotypes)

You could try purging just that folder and seeing if a newly created Xenotype sticks. Alternatively, you could also try purging the Config folder in the same location - but this will clear all the settings for all your mods, so backup the folder first so you can refer to your settings to reset them!

@belirahc when i reload the game all my custom xenotypes remain intact, including gender locked genes. So it's probably an incompatibility with another mod. Don't know which one though

i've had a issue with gender locked genes getting removed from my custom xenotype between game reloads, idk if it's just a bug with this mod or some incapabilty with xenotype spawn rate controls

Maybe I should uninstall all my mods and reacquaint myself with what vanilla even looks like, rofl. I've been playing since alpha and I'm a chronic mod adder(I hope you never see how many I got installed on my private Minecraft worlds). I guess I've gotten very lazy in keeping up feature updates.
I appreciate your time, your friendliness, and your diligence. Thank you.

@furrytrash888 There are two things here. For the first thing, I'll need you to stay very strong: As of 1.6 scrollable gene list is also vanilla, so you should probably uninstall/deactivate that mod. secondly, i never tried adding so many genes and it seems that the extra space thats required for the new buttons to set genders is throwing off the calculations for how many rows of genes should be displayed. I now am aware of the issue and will probably fix it soon™, though as a temporary workaround you can:

1 - Add more genes that you don't want on your xenotype until the ones you do want show up
2 - Change gender linking on those genes
3 - Remove the genes you don't want again

Hope this helps and thanks for reporting the issue

What about gender ratios, if you don't mind my asking about potential features? Something to make male or female pawns less likely per child born? A 1 in 3, maybe a 1 in 5? 1 in 10 or more for masochistic players?

While using the VANILLA xenotype editor like an intelligent person, Gendered Genes 2 worked like a dream... up until a certain point, where additional genes just wouldn't display, even though they were, in fact, being added to the list, but because I couldn't interact with them, I couldn't gender link them. I have Scrollable Gene List, which should allow me to see and all the genes in the xenotype without eating up the whole gene editing screen. In retrospect, I wish I'd counted the exactly how many genes are in the xenotype, but I can tell you it has a complexity of 112 with 0 metabolic impact, has two archite genes, and is composed primarily(but not entirely) with modded genes, and probably contains more the 60 genes in total. Would you have any insight into this?

@Hatoful Pengu you'd have to test that, I have no idea, sorry

do you have any idea what would happen if i used gendered genes to assign the "female only" gene from the gender genes mod to males only? i've been trying to develop a set of ant-inspired xenotypes with several distinct castes using cyanobot's genes and it'd be nice if i could condense some of them into fewer actual xenotypes by using this mod to create dimorphism while still having all of them be female

I have a ridiculous amount, 2612 packs. On a 2021 m1 mac and an old i7 6800k it lags both computers. It's obviously my fault for having so many packs, but I hoped there might be some simple solution.
