Build within the Umbral Abyss

It's the nature of the Umbral Abyss itself, creating custom regions specifically for that layer can allow for more habitable terrain with food options as you would have custom placed everything by hand. I believe that there are some custom region mods that add to the abyss though I cannot say if they are good or not, I was also looking into a revamp for it but that may take awhile.

Hey - been wanting to try a playthru like this, but I noticed that most of the terrain in the abyss in uninhabitable (so cannot annex it with any Umbral cities), which really limits a city to a few tiles in many cases. I also am guessing there is no way to get food tiles for these cities either? Would be cool if those with umbral transformations could annex any territory down there, and build farms etc.

I'm playing with subdued umbral abyss, if that makes a difference.

@Burning Tradesman : Unfortunately, the devs have taken the route of Cosmic Horror = EEEvil demons (rather than neutral/unaware but so alien that they are harmful just by existing), so they need to keep the Big Bad faction somewhat isolated so it can be special. I hate it too though.

I rly would love to start there. in diffrent ways. as prisonor or as the Big tentakel monster itselv ec. if you could make this posibile that would be so awesome.

Always love to see modders breath more life into the Umbral Abyss/Shadow Realm, I honestly never understood why we weren't given the option to just upgrade the sanctuary outposts into proper abyss cities and limit the places you could build cities being on top of those ancient outposts. Since it could easily give the player more opportunities/challenges to do within the umbral abyss outside of looting and dealing with the occasional umbral nest that gets in your way, either in the form of city quests or random events relating to the struggles of settling in the void, or maybe even a way to spawn a new umbral dwelling, either from sacrificing the city for an umbral dwelling that starts on better terms with you, or just losing it from low happiness breaking your people and giving themselves up to the abyss, with an umbral dwelling taking root and seeing you as easy prey, until then it's great to see this mod back up and running.

@Washeek

From what i remember in the old Abyss cities mod, they dont build actual city in the abyss, thats reqiuring them get too far out of the way, BUT they will claim provinces through abyss gates.
And regular outposts on fixed places as in vanilla ofc.

How does the AI play with this?
Are they just going to build cities in abyss or will they reasonably build the special abyss outposts?

Ooo, this will be nice for my abyssal demon race =)

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. I'll activate Abyss and this mod in my next run.

@Isidorn

Yes, you can annex and build through an Umbral Gate both ways including the underground layer as well.

@Xoth

Thank you for thinking about it. It's modders like you that make gaming great. :)

Does this make it possible to annex abyss provinces for surface/underground cities too, through the umbral gates?
Xoth  [author] 23 Aug @ 7:51pm
@Råb!d

As far as I have seen it is not possible, the Underground Start entry within the 'Empire_Core.rpk' file uses the "User Map Settings Override" file type, which explicitly lists 'Spawn' and 'Override Spawn' which are set to true for the underground, however, due to the developers never intending for the Umbral Abyss to be buildable, the option to include the spawn options as a checkbox was never created for that layer.

It may indeed be possible through the use of extensive tag triggers to force it, but that is a big hypothetical.

Honestly, thankyou for bringing this back. Love to see it.
Råb!d 23 Aug @ 10:59am
Is it possible to have an Abyss Start?
Anthony the Eternal 22 Aug @ 12:49pm
i kinda get WHY this isn't base-game for Eldritch rulers, but i also don't. On one hand it's strong, on the other hand it fits the eldritch rulers perfectly
