Yes, I simulated a fake weapon for unnarmed state because legs won't function without active viewmodel and thought it would only affect crowbar pickup animations which I've reimplemented but unfortunately it affects hev hands and some other anims too.
However, I did notice that a lot of first time weapon pickup animations (like the crossbow etc.) seem to no longer play at all.
Is it perhaps tied to the same issue that prevents the HEV hands admire animation from playing too?

Probably not possible. Even with sourcemod and reverse engineering it's not possible because it's severside only.
Just now I've also added it in description
Launch the game. It will write config file for custom CVars. Go to: Black Mesa\bms\cfg\bm and open "gordon_legs.cfg" with text editor. Edit all CVars to your liking it will save your options for every session without having to reenter them in console.

Not sure if this is possible. Black Mesa uses different method for death screen, it doesn't attempt to spawn ragdoll after death even if you set playermodel.
Does it not crash on first started map? I suggest to install stable version of metamod and dev version of sourcemod only leaving bm_fullbodyawareness.smx file in plugins section.
It also works in singleplayer albeit not fully functional as some script functions related to clients(players) don't work in singleplayer
Bugs general:
- sometimes legs are not removed when player is dead.
- legs are getting incorrect pos after save load if you are in crouch.
- 2 times get a game breaking glitch. somehow shotgun or other weapons are getting incorrect FOV, save loads stops working, level transition wil put you at ???0 0 0??? pos.

- when you look down and get hit by the soldier - you will see out of bounds stuff. seems to be related to bm_legs_fovadjustment.
