Bedrooms are always better than Barracks

"Colonists living in luxury are going to care a lot more about having a decent private bedroom than sleeping crammed like sardines in the middle of a museum exhibition." cracked me up

I think you should make +4 to +20 for bed room, barrack still the way to go in late game, specially when your base expanded too much, there are no room left, even a 7x7 room is hard to come by, let alone decorating that tiny room to look nice :sad_seagull:

B-but good barrack gives like +1, you can buff bedroom, why nerf barrack... T^T
RedMattis  [author] 30 Jul @ 11:20pm
@Well that was lucky
It doesn’t nerf anything but the most outrageously decorated barracks anymore. :)

It mostly buffs bedroom to actually make them relevant, especially for gravships where personal rooms is still a common sci-fi trope.

What I'm concerned about is ships. I usually have my ship in a compact design and that somewhat rely on that small (but needed) barracks mood buff. So my question here is will this mod substantially effect compact ship designs.

I laughed really hard at the thumbnail. Great mod!

although finding if a room a pawn slept in had 3 statues or not might be hard to code in
Caroline 28 Jul @ 7:00am
@Doctor Sex an even better idea: if a barracks room or a bedroom has 3 or more statues(or maybe ) everyone who sleeps in the room gets -5 mood
Doctor Sex 28 Jul @ 5:49am
i think that at 140 points in barrack paws should get like -5 with description "either u wana buy me off with these statues or you really think we are stupid"
:GDEasy:
@therealzOh 27 Jul @ 12:35pm
subbed for the thumbnail alone
Waggish 27 Jul @ 9:56am
+1 Mood - Hilarious thumbnail
Quilava 26 Jul @ 10:58pm
Lmao, i saw the barrack image with a bunch of jade lion and i just cant stop laughing

Still, i think this is amazing, cause im always go for barrack since bed room just cant compete in vanilla, a must have QoL mod :steamthumbsup::cool_seagull:

@The Blind One
Yeah, bedrooms being comparably in important to dining rooms and such feels quite off.

I think most people would prefer eating in a crappy cafeteria if it means they could have a high-class comfy private apartment.

Especially since a lot of players making said high-class bedrooms often tend to stick tables, TVs etc. there because it felt thematically right.

Update:
Buffed back Barracks. Now same as vanilla except they max out at +2 instead of +4 at the very end.

No way is sleeping in a Museum exhibit better than a great bedroom. :D

Side-note, the disturbed debuff is not something bedrooms are totally safe from. Being disturbed by cleaners, (filth-producing) animals, doctors, partners, or random stuff like repairs or idle quest npcs is pretty common, so you see that buff build up on people with bedrooms fairly often too.
The Blind One 25 Jul @ 7:57am
Bedrooms in vanilla are balanced in the same way rec and dining room buffs are, you can get at most a +8 for each category with +24 being the total which is there too offset the mood loss you get for higher wealth levels (also -24 in normal circumstances).

Interesting change tho, I made similar changes to my personal tweaks mod (unpublished) including up fronting most of the mood buffs to the early levels but I didn't put the mood buff for private bedrooms so high. +10 in my case was the max and the debuff for barracks is high enough as is because there's the -3 mood from disturbed sleep making it already a guaranteed -10.

I do understand the sentiment for having a double (+16) mood buff for having an amazing private bedroom, it really does and should make the biggest difference in living quality for a pawn imho.

What Tyrant said. I think that pumping the numbers too high (in either direction) can cause gameplay problems by either punishing the early game too much or making the mid/late trivial.

IMO
Barracks: -8 to +2
Rooms: -2 to +10

Adding mod options would probably trivialize these questions of balancing, anyway
RedMattis  [author] 24 Jul @ 10:54pm
Fair enoigh, I can reduce remove the penalties on the early leveles so they are identical to vanilla.
Tyrant 24 Jul @ 3:24pm
I feel like the mod still has the right idea even with the previous comment's point about disturbed sleep in mind, but the adjustments here are taken too far.
R41N 24 Jul @ 2:07pm
Rooms are already better than Barracks though. The disturbed sleep buff can stack up to x3 so its worse than you think. Its not just -7 to +4 because you have the additional -3 debuff from all the disturbed sleep.

@KawwaK
Perhaps if it is requested enough. :)

Unlike my gravship mod this was just a itty bitty tweak mod I figured was worth sharing, I didn't have very high ambitions with it. ^_^;;
KawwaK 24 Jul @ 12:53pm
Nice mod, thanks. It would be nice to be able to adjust the values in the mod settings.

@ALE199
Early game has such a big initial mood boost that it probably won't matter much, and making a decent-looking barracks remains really easy. A basic wooden statue or two, or some cheap jade objects.

The nerf to barracks is only `-2` on most level except awful. A -2 mood drop is unlikely to change much.

I suspect barracks are still technically the optimal choice since they drive up wealth much less, result in less commuting, bad thoughts from rain, etc. etc.

Also the fact that someone would rather sleep in a sculpture-exhibition barracks than what RW calls an "impressive bedroom" is really weird, especially given how pawn's default thoughts state that they hate sharing bedrooms.

As the "Decent Barracks" thought states: "I slept in a decent barracks, but I really dislike sharing a sleeping space "

Laughed at the thumbnail, good work.

Hear hear!

I love this mod, it makes using Bedrooms more impactful, but my only problem is the nerf to barracks, it's overkill, since bedrooms with this mod makes them so much better, making barracks even worse is too much.
