It doesn’t nerf anything but the most outrageously decorated barracks anymore. :)
It mostly buffs bedroom to actually make them relevant, especially for gravships where personal rooms is still a common sci-fi trope.
Still, i think this is amazing, cause im always go for barrack since bed room just cant compete in vanilla, a must have QoL mod
Yeah, bedrooms being comparably in important to dining rooms and such feels quite off.
I think most people would prefer eating in a crappy cafeteria if it means they could have a high-class comfy private apartment.
Especially since a lot of players making said high-class bedrooms often tend to stick tables, TVs etc. there because it felt thematically right.
Buffed back Barracks. Now same as vanilla except they max out at +2 instead of +4 at the very end.
No way is sleeping in a Museum exhibit better than a great bedroom. :D
Side-note, the disturbed debuff is not something bedrooms are totally safe from. Being disturbed by cleaners, (filth-producing) animals, doctors, partners, or random stuff like repairs or idle quest npcs is pretty common, so you see that buff build up on people with bedrooms fairly often too.
Interesting change tho, I made similar changes to my personal tweaks mod (unpublished) including up fronting most of the mood buffs to the early levels but I didn't put the mood buff for private bedrooms so high. +10 in my case was the max and the debuff for barracks is high enough as is because there's the -3 mood from disturbed sleep making it already a guaranteed -10.
I do understand the sentiment for having a double (+16) mood buff for having an amazing private bedroom, it really does and should make the biggest difference in living quality for a pawn imho.
IMO
Barracks: -8 to +2
Rooms: -2 to +10
Adding mod options would probably trivialize these questions of balancing, anyway
Perhaps if it is requested enough. :)
Unlike my gravship mod this was just a itty bitty tweak mod I figured was worth sharing, I didn't have very high ambitions with it. ^_^;;
Early game has such a big initial mood boost that it probably won't matter much, and making a decent-looking barracks remains really easy. A basic wooden statue or two, or some cheap jade objects.
The nerf to barracks is only `-2` on most level except awful. A -2 mood drop is unlikely to change much.
I suspect barracks are still technically the optimal choice since they drive up wealth much less, result in less commuting, bad thoughts from rain, etc. etc.
Also the fact that someone would rather sleep in a sculpture-exhibition barracks than what RW calls an "impressive bedroom" is really weird, especially given how pawn's default thoughts state that they hate sharing bedrooms.
As the "Decent Barracks" thought states: "I slept in a decent barracks, but I really dislike sharing a sleeping space "
