hahaha i forgot that i am playing with that mod too HAHAHA
i could use your idea and implement such as "Best used before: (date)" that i could insert daysfresh of the food. but when i think about it i havent really understand to code a LUA to retrieve players game date because to implement this the food expiration date has to be dynamically adjusted along with players desired game start date.
i haven't take a look or tried sapph's cooking mod or even test with my mod, but is it really incompatible? so far this mod only edit vanilla food properties, which i am surprised people asking about compability with sapphs cooking mod
yes the chances for food to go rotten is random handled by the game randomizer table, the ones i edited are max days for food before having 100% chance to be rotten.
I just thought of something and i don't know if this have been brought up before or have been worked into them mod yet.
Is the days until an item goes rotten random? in that sense that it simulates it maybe have been in that house for maybe 100 days before you start your playthough? Or is this to hard to implement?
Is it also possible to see how long till each items experies?

this might involves LUA or scripting outside my knowledge which i havent learned yet. In the script the value of buffs like hunger,happiness is included inside the food function itself. i am not sure if the game has a prepared method for it if i don't want to code it in LUA.
actually after some thoughts it seems possible. i could delete the line for sugar DaysTotallyRotten so it will may never rot but i havent tested it out yet.
pretty much yeah sugar doesnt rot. Wish they had a feature where few specific amount of food can only go stale and never truly rot. Because for example sugar we mentioned earlier, if it used for say like 3 years the sugar itself will get coarse and a rough texture

maybe you should unsub from this mod first and after i roll out 1.1.0 update lets see if it works

i assume everything on the shelf is already rotten at first glance lol if i am playing with 10 years later mod
did you enabled the mod on existing save? if so it wont work
You are a GENIUS! I didn't realize to check these food and use the existing line code!. In theory this could really simplify the work! I am grateful for you're idea and will give a credit to you in the next patch!
Would the inclusion of this flag simplify the issue you're having?
in the code i am able to change the attributes of a item_cannedtuna and item_cannedtunaOpen. These 2 are different items where item_cannedtunaOpen wont inherit the progressed expiration value of item_cannedtuna unless i write a script to replace it. and i have to do that alot to packaged foods. So just be informed i will be in a very deep dive to fix this issue.
