@Kody Yeah, that's the one I also thought about most. I'll think about it, but no promises.
Kody 5 Oct @ 8:53am
I guess Archipelago is really the only other truly unique map type, and I'm not sure how much it would benefit from it, but that would be the one that comes to mind for me.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 5 Oct @ 1:28am
@Kody Great to hear! Yes, it's definitely possible to create other voronoi-based map types. I'm not yet sure if I will add more to the mod, because I don't want to over-inflate the amount of map types, but from a principal standpoint, it shouldn't be too hard. Is there a specific map type you were thinking about?
Kody 4 Oct @ 4:04pm
Thank you for the new voronoi updates, the mountain options are great! Do you know if other map types can be created with that new generation method or is it hard-coded to only the two maps officially supported?
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 16 Sep @ 9:41am
@renetschultz Yes, the possibility of that is actually intended with my mod. Deserts near the poles can get their fair share of snow :)
renetschultz 16 Sep @ 1:44am
I am seeing a desert tile with snow on it. Never seen it in vanilla maps so not sure if it occurs there too.
xDHolbo 5 Sep @ 4:56am
Während des Spiel leider verbuggt. Konnte keine Scouts mehr aufs Land schicken und die Gegner habe ich nicht mehr aufgedeckt.
Kody 4 Sep @ 12:22pm
Thank you!
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 4 Sep @ 11:38am
@madpluck @Kody That is likely due to the randomly chosen mountain-amount being too high on restart, yeah. I just posted an update to limit the maximum settable amount of mountains a bit more, so that hopefully crashes don't appear as often anymore.
Kody 2 Sep @ 6:08pm
Yes, I got the same fatal error on restart.
madpluck 2 Sep @ 1:57pm
Does this include the game suffering a "fatal map generation error" when using the "restart" button as well? That's what happened to me and it's the first time I'm playing since the new mountain settings were included.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 28 Aug @ 6:24am
@tmgevedon Thanks! Yeah, I'm aware of the mountain parameter reset when restarting, and I'm not happy with it myself.
Unfortunately I haven't found a solution yet, since the code for the restart logic is not available to Modders, and that's where my changes would have to go. My hope is that the next Civ update will change a few things there, as it's supposed to rework map generation. But until then, the only solution will probably be to go back to the main menu and restart from there :/
tmgevedon 27 Aug @ 12:25pm
Great mod, but it seems like more often than not lately if I hit restart on any diverse continents map, the next one that loads is about 90% mountains and unplayable. It's like every time I get a roll I don't like, I have to exit out to the main menu and start over from the beginning.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 26 Aug @ 10:46am
@gconqueror Interesting find. I knew that was the case for fractal++ maps, because that's where I actually shuffle spawn positions (it's not an ideal solution yet, I know). But it also seems to appear on the other diverse map types. Part of it has to do with the maps being more random, so that mountains block spawn positions of wonders, or there is not a lot of jungle on the map. But that's not the whole explanation as well, something else seems messed up.
I'll investigate this some more and see if I can fix it, thanks for bringing it up!
gconqueror 25 Aug @ 9:13pm
I think this mod overrides civs and leaders starting bias, after 10 rerolls with Isabella only once I started nearby a natural Wonder. I tried with Jose Rizal and only 4 times out of 10 I started in tropical biome. I also have random continents so it may be a weird interaction
Kastel 23 Aug @ 7:14am
After 1.2.4 update, enabling this mod brings a black screen at the new game start. I'm not sure why, maybe dependent on the loading order of mods, but that's all I found.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 22 Aug @ 1:11am
@GrindPlayer Are you sure it's the better main menu mod that causes the black screen? I have it installed too, but don't have any issues currently (Then again, it doesn't seem to be working at all for me).
GrindPlayer 21 Aug @ 11:37am
it seem the black screen problem with "better main menu" is back again :/
BTW, "better main menu" is really outdated and the modder said he'll work on it soon
Shiki 21 Aug @ 1:25am
Thanks for looking into it, I am not sure if it happens to other maps but it happens very often on Diverse Archipelagos, it would straight up spawn you in the middle of mountain clusters so you cant even move out lol
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 21 Aug @ 12:15am
@Shiki Oh that's a good point, thanks for bringing it up! I haven't played multiplayer yet, so I never noticed, but it doesn't apply the right logic with respect to mountain generation. I will try to fix that soon.
Shiki 20 Aug @ 1:26pm
I feel like there's too much mountain on default, I am playing multiplayer so there's no slider so it should be the default and I am spawning surrounded by mountains
Shiki 20 Aug @ 3:39am
Thanks for the quick update!
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 20 Aug @ 12:23am
@Izanami Should be fixed now, thanks for reporting!
Izanami 19 Aug @ 10:17am
With new update, this mod is causing screen to go black on New Game.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 14 Aug @ 12:46pm
@Exodus Yes, I just rolled out a fix for the incompatibility, and added my advanced options screen back :)
Exodus 13 Aug @ 7:56pm
Thanks for the rollback update. Now I can enjoy both mods together again. Hopefully you are able to resolve the issue soon!
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 13 Aug @ 7:55am
@Exodus Thanks for the report, I can confirm the issue. It's due to the map options screen I introduced in the lastest update. I will see if I can get this resolved.
Exodus 12 Aug @ 8:16pm
This mod prevents the game from loading the main menu if it is used together with "Better Main Menu"

https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3509385196

I don't know why a map mod is conflicting with a menu mod, but this mod is the one that created the conflict in a recent update. Can you look into it?
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 7 Aug @ 9:04am
@warhammerfrpgm Thanks, it's always nice to be appreciated :D
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 7 Aug @ 9:03am
@GAFM That's actually one of the big things that I want to try next. Not yet sure if it's possible, but I would also love to have more configurable maps.
warhammerfrpgm 6 Aug @ 3:40pm
i appreciate your honesty and all your efforts. you are making civ 7 more fun and playable.
GAFM 6 Aug @ 3:19pm
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but is it possible to have "sliders" during game set up where the player can select more or less of each feature (mountains, rivers, etc)? Thanks Mr H. for helping make civ more fun for everyone!
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 6 Aug @ 11:24am
@Athens Hah, yeah I know TSL World Maps are a fan favorite :D
I must admit, I don't have that on my todo-list currently. Don't want to rule it out completely, but I wouldn't expect it any time soon (at least from me).
Athens 6 Aug @ 11:13am
I know this is a big ask but your maps have been great and a lot of people would appreciate a true start real world map all good if not!
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 6 Aug @ 8:15am
@warhammerfrpgm It's an interesting suggestion. For now I'm still busy fixing some of the existing map types, but if I get around to creating new ones in the future, I might consider this idea!
warhammerfrpgm 6 Aug @ 5:49am
thank you again for all your hard work. I really do appreciate these maps. is there a way to create scripting to create 4 small continents. 2 in each hemisphere with all 4 separated by deep ocean water. this would be my ideal map. you have knocked it out of the park with the diverse archipellago, diverse continents, and more. gonna give a go next time at a pangea type map. not sure how that fucks with the age of exploration, but at the rate i destroy empires, gonna have to guess i may not make it to the modern age.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 5 Aug @ 1:15pm
@N7Zebracakes Yes, I've noticed this problem just recently. I will be looking into it, that's definitely not the way it should be.
N7Zebracakes 4 Aug @ 2:05pm
I've ran a few antiquity ages with this mod and it looks like some civs or huts or CS may be tagged as distant land, but can be found in Antiquity. However, you cannot interact with them at all. I'll send scouts out to the map corners and run into a civ I shouldn't find until Exploration and I cant interact with them at all. When Exploration pops up, I get the intro script and such.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 3 Aug @ 1:12pm
@madpluck I probably could reduce the water percentage, but I'm not sure if that wouldn't make the spawn continent too generic and square-shaped. In my test runs, most of the time the west continent has a good amount of land (though space will be tighter than on other map types, naturally), so I think I will not change this generation too much, for now.
madpluck 3 Aug @ 12:02pm
I was wondering if reducing the Water percentage for the west continent would make it fill out more North and South, still providing more landmass without the distant land issue?
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 2 Aug @ 10:15am
@madpluck Thx for bringing it up, it seems indeed to be the fixed longtitude that determines the distant lands. I'll look into it in the next days, sounds like it should be fixable.
And yes, the line you quote is exactly the change to make the west continent bigger, putting it back to 0.5 the map width will avoid the issue. Great to see someone looking at the actual code, too :D
madpluck 2 Aug @ 4:37am
Played around with the "east: (iWidth * 0.58) - globals.g_AvoidSeamOffset" line since it seems like the problem is that it extends the homeland too far to the east, causing it to merge with the island chain and count as Distant Lands. Tuning it back down to 0.5 seems to avoid it so it seems like there's another variable forcing the map into even halves of homeland and distant land.
madpluck 1 Aug @ 4:05pm
Ok edit: there seems to be an artificial longitude, past which the game considers lands to be "distant;" past that even lands attached to the mainland are considered distant.
madpluck 1 Aug @ 4:01pm
So I love the increased continent size for Terra, but the game is wigging out on me now. All the little islands within shallow coastal range are being classified as Distant Lands (like literally every island), I also had some weird plot issues where like I had an unused tile but the game thought it was an adjacent tile so it wouldn't let me build there. I know because I used the FireTuner to "delete" the supposed "urban district" and it instead deleted the district in the adjacent tile.

Hope you can get it fixed! This is my favorite mod for sure.
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 31 Jul @ 7:56am
@earthwulf No problem, I'll investigate more when it happens to me in some match. It seems to be a rather rare bug though (which is good :D )
earthwulf 31 Jul @ 1:44am
I'm sorry, I don't, I restarted the game
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 30 Jul @ 12:45pm
@earthwulf Hm, that's indeed weird. Do you happen to have the seed of the map? (You can see it at the bottom of the screen after pressing Escape ingame)
earthwulf 29 Jul @ 4:40pm
I tried diverse archipelago & the map wasn't registering any place for me to build any land-based structures next to my capital - no saw pit, no brick yard. I could build a granary on the city and a fishing quay outside, but nothing on the lands surrounding. https://imgur.com/a/JV02EV4
metafa 28 Jul @ 2:00pm
Great, thanks!
Mr. Hazelwood | Falling Birds  [author] 28 Jul @ 9:20am
@metafa It's a distinct option when creating a new game. You will see more map types to choose from when you create a new game, and you can still play the original map types as well.
