A Giant Problem

I've also been really enjoying this one, stealth parties need to beware there's a few opponents with very high perception and they *will* see you. It's not too common though. Also found some nice custom bows, which is very cool, don't see custom bows often really.

If you use 6 party teams with the UB you do have to use the "pause, select party members one at a time and move them to the portal, then unpause" or the "go into cautious mode and move the party across the portal back and forth" tricks to get them to work, but that's the same for most campaigns honestly.

If any doors close before the whole party gets into a room. You can enable the cheats menu, then go into the control config settings and set a hot key for teleport. This will let you put your whole party into the room, so you don't have anyone left out.

Just wanted to say how much i'm liking this one, lots of cool little details, and hope the tips help anyone who is stuck on the portals.

Man I'm enjoying this so far. Genuinely not trying to jerk anyone's chain who previously complained it was too hard, but the goblin caves are excellently designed, a real challenge once the cave-in blocks the exit , and very true to the original PnP modules. You really need to make judicious use of resources and terrain, and plan your tactics instead of blindly just charging into the next fight. Difficult, yes, but not too hard. Well done so far, and thanks!

Unless it was the other map, then instead of stairs down there's one place with "stairs up to the tower" and there's a resting spot there, with a manacalon crypt downstairs.
Tyhuko® 22 hours ago
There's a rest spot in the crypt, one of the buildings before you even find the Stronghold. And no, no gamebreaking bugs that make progressing impossible. Just loot the boss rooms (check the map they're usually titled X's private quarters/room) and read those documents to fulfill "collect intelligence" quest requirement.

GREAT game best yet. Just using 4 party. When I tried to use UB and used 6 I could not leave Neganburg. I walked over the portal and nothing happened. Just as well 6 would have been too easy -- perhaps I need to update the mod? Jimbabwe I did not find a resting area in the Hill Giant fortress, as a result I leveled up two when I finally got a rest. Was there a rest spot in the Hill Giant fortress?

So no game-breaking bugs so far that weren't solved by reading everything?

So far having a lot of fun with UB mod, I did show up in the giant hall without much preparation but the fight was super fun, got 11,7k XP for my efforts. (probably wasted half a level, oh well). Played mostly on Scavenger as I didn't know how to multiclass etc, now I'm at fire giants' place and switched to Cataclysm. Definitely recommended :)

reading the documents was the key! all good now.

Jimbabwe - Thx yes I am reading everything. I am on 854 hours with Solasta , on am on "Find the Temple quest". I noticed right away your work seems like a purchased item. The character triggers and environment detail - I noticed, Cassidy's diary is excellent writing , those characters sound very interesting very well done. I am just playing four characters on merciless AI. I learned from watching video's about how to use the Warlock and the Ranger to great effect. My team was very well challenged but no one has gone down. The only liberty I take is I have the generous scroll setting. Without it the Warlock is much less interesting(but balanced) because they can't cast many spells. This way he can cast any arcane scrolls picked up. Has not been a factor yet but if the DM gives you something it is more fun if you can use it.

Ara: Which quest are you on? Be sure to "read" any documents you find (right-click and select 'read'). This is necessary to advance the quests (not enough to pickup items).
Stew143 28 Sep @ 1:22pm
Thanks, up to journey to Gimvale. Best played yet. Tips, 1 Warlock using blast, growth spike and short rest. no goblins or even the ogres got thu it , rest and use it again. Tip 2 Ranger Swift Strike 18 dex with bow - surprise every time - get extra attack- can also tank.

Have you tried it yet Ossie1972? Stop being a Cockwobble, unless you finished it my guy.
buicken 28 Sep @ 6:40am
where is the goblin cave? cleared all the goblins, there is no cave on any maps. can't continue . used ub to highlight hidden things, still nothing.
Ossie1972 28 Sep @ 4:32am
I would strongly request that you don't nerf the module because a few Karens complain that it's "too hard". It's a hard module. That's literally the selling point of the original campaign. Giants are supposed to be tough. PC players can save before big fights & reload fails, as well as dial down the difficulty - none of which were possible for the original modules - and thousands of players still managed to do just fine.

There is already a lack of tough content for this game: don't dilute a classic module to slop because of a couple of whingers

Today three friends and I tried to play this module. We had Unfinished Business installed and, surprisingly, didn’t encounter the usual issues with that mod (turn order errors and instability). However, we ran into a different recurring problem: the blue exit square often failed to appear. We spent long stretches searching, only to discover that if the host reloaded, the exit would reappear.

We managed to progress up to clearing out all the goblins, but after returning to the village we could not find any further encounters or a way to complete the quest. Reloading didn’t help, and after trying everything we could think of, we were stuck.

I understand and appreciate that people make these modules for free—it’s work done for others, and that effort is valuable. Unfortunately, in this case, the session ended without resolution, which was frustrating after investing so much time.

is this too easy to do with a 6 man party?
Jimbabwe  [author] 26 Sep @ 4:33pm
jeff: Try updating to 1.0.2 and going back into the goblin cave
Ossie1972 25 Sep @ 8:01pm
I haven't started yet but the original PnP modules were for levels 8-12 & contained long stretches without rest - it's designed to be tough. Especially starting at level 1. Ppl can always tweak the difficulty settings so FWIW I'd be inclined to stick with what you've already tested works - thanks for your work!
jeff 25 Sep @ 7:00pm
My PCs are 3rd level and I made it through the goblin caves, but I come out into the forest with low HP and no resources other than ammo and cantrips. I have enough XP to get to 4th, but there have been no campfires to level up. Now I gotta face 4 ogres or a bunch of crows and a hag. You need to add some more campsites, or are there hidden ones I missed?

Sephiro1701: Which frost giant quests did not complete?
Jimbabwe  [author] 25 Sep @ 6:35pm
Sorry to hear you all feel the difficulty is too high. I am not 12 years old and not trying to piss people off. I have play-tested this multiple times (never with UB), and played in co-op where the other player - who did not know what was about to happen - made all the decisions. I didn't feel the difficulty was any higher than campaigns such as Red Crow. But we tend to use stealth and scout out areas, and getting surprise in the encounters can make a huge difference. That makes trying to find the right balance tricky. Most of the Giant areas are pretty true to the 5e version of the modules - even though there are a lot of giants, Solasta tends to be easier in combat and can be exploited with narrow hallways, area denial spells, etc. But as the original modules, if you just walk into the hill giant grand hall, you're going to be in trouble.

I plan to play test in co-op mode one more time and will look at adjusting the balance after that.
Sephiro1701 25 Sep @ 9:58am
For a normal Party without UB it would be really hard. The encounters have many enemies and it only gets worse total HP wise. looking at 15 Giants at once....
It works for me but i guess not everyone.
Also i am stuck on the quest for clearing the frost giants. I did every thing and any sub quest is cleared. I have read the documents but still no progress towards the fire giants.
Need help.
Ossie1972 25 Sep @ 5:39am
How does this compare to the "Against The Giants" campaign that seems to have been abadoned?
Hastar 25 Sep @ 5:30am
Maybe I will replay this with the UB mod with a min/max party.
Hastar 25 Sep @ 5:27am
I'm not going to try and go off on you, but what are you doing? Unless you are a 12-year-old DM and love to kill your friends like we did back in the 80s, then I apologize for my comments.

First, you need to tell everyone you need to use Unfinished Business, so you can make really powerful characters and give them feats at lvl 1. Then you need to state you have to use monks and warlocks because you will have to fight at least 5 battles with over 100 goblins at lvl 4, with no long rest. These are not normal goblins but bosses with 85 hps and magical 2-handed axes, goblins that cast lightning bolts and slow, and invisibility and acid arrows. Also, goblin champions and rogues.
Hastar 25 Sep @ 5:27am
I can be a power gamer at times and min/max, but you need to state this. I made it to the 5th battle with a barbarian, warrior, cleric, and wizard. But when there were adds because the goblins kept falling back and retreating and casting endless acid arrows on your party, I was done. You can see how many hours I have played this game, and I enjoy challenging dungeons that I play on a high lvl of difficulty. Fighting goblins takes long enough with all the disengagement and running away,

I love this module, but you wasted my time, and at my age, that's not cool, unless you're 12, then this is karma for what I did to my friends in the 80s.
Fonzosh 24 Sep @ 11:36pm
Should add Queen of the Demonweb pits to the end and really make the whole series :lunar2019grinningpig:
Sephiro1701 24 Sep @ 12:16pm
I like it very much. I did not expect that the first quest would take that long. But the flow is very good.
I am doing a solo run and it is actually manageable. Fighter Batlemaster with rapier/short sword and shield. I am using the 2024 rule which really give the fighter the edge it needed.
Most anoying fight was the mage in the temple with greater invisibility.
I am now just outside the Giant Fortress.
Hastar 24 Sep @ 4:41am
One of my favorite modules of all-time.Going to try this right away. :brothersword::brotherskull:
