Report a translation problem
I cant say what causes the stutter. Even the original mod authors of TROM + TUP are aware of this and I believe they are stumped too.
If you find anything, i mean anything at all in RPFM that could help the stability of TROM + TUP, feel free to let me know or the original mod authors.
I have tried to figure out a few of the bugs but no luck. Thankfully this overhaul is playable, with mostly no campaign breaking components.
An established hero with a gold weapon should (imo) be able to knock off a few hundred militia. I was kind of hoping the most powerful heroes could knock off 200 militia before wavering or death; on the flip side, an established hero could still hold his/her own against an elite unit, knocking off around 100.
A common character with a common weapon would be able to take our 70-100 militia, and maybe 30-40 elite.
I did 1 battle to test out heroes being nerfed and had mixed results. I might attempt to add a little health pool back to all heroes. It was only one battle plus im trying to account for a few things.

The one battle i completed had all powerful heroes with gold unique weapons, against mostly militia units.
Xiahou Dun had 200 defeats but was destroying all archers.
Zhao Yun had 120 defeats facing mid tier units. He ended up dying right before the end.
Yu Jin had 90 defeats and was low health. He was roaming mostly around militia units and mid tier.
Cao Cao had 50 defeats and faced militia units and Guan Xing
Guan Xing, i cant recall his defeats. He was taken out early on by Cao Cao and Xiahou Yuan.
I have a vision for how i want this to play.
After today's updates, everything should be stable. Please report any bugs, crashes, etc. This mod will never be perfect due to the scale, but my attempt is to get it as close to perfect as possible.
Still working on heroes. I believe most heroes had a 24k health pool and i dropped it to 12k. I might up health to around 15k but for now it sits at 12.
If your crash happens once, it could just be something less serious. If you get the same crash twice ever, that is my main concern.
I am releasing more updates on 08/03. So if your game does not work as intended, im in the middle of making more tweaks. Right now, heroes might be super weak. Im looking into keeping them tough but not overpowered.

These characters are unique, but their 2D models are awful. Since the mod doesn’t offer anything for 3D, I won’t comment on that. However, some low-tier characters have much better skins than these unique ones, which seems odd and raises questions about the logic behind the skin system.
Also, character spawns and ages are inconsistent. Some spawn randomly, which feels off. For example, Deng Ji under Liu Yan, Man Chun under Cao Cao, and Hua Man under Meng Huo. There may be more.
Can they spawn with historically accurate ages? Deng Ji was very young, should only spawn under 16, and Hua Man should likely be younger too. Right now, some spawn at random ages, even 50+, which is strange.
For instance, Man Chun served Cao Pi, but he wouldn’t be 50—Man Chun wouldn’t live that long. Can this be fixed so characters don’t spawn with random ages?
Also, in 194, items like Leader of Refugees, White Horse Fellow Vanguard, and The Wolf King sword from Tao Qian don’t spawn, forcing manual commands. Many key items and characters from 190 should appear in 194 too. Some 182 items could also just be carried over instead of requiring manual spawning. That would be great!
There are so many good ROTK portraits too! Though yeah, one of the problems is iirc rotk only really has top half portraits and no legs, meaning it isn't nearly as simple (though ig one could always just have them without legs).
As far as portraits, there's still a ways to go. I was going to compare all of TUP with ROTK and just choose the portrait i like better. It's a ton of work and ive only done a handful so far. Zhang Liao's is currently incomplete but it won't cause game breaking bugs/crashes/etc. His mini portrait is vanilla but his larger stuff is ROTK.
Thank you by the way! Appreciate the kind words. I think a 2x unit mod is a coin flip as to weather it would work with the collection i use or not. If i had to place a bet, if a 2x unit mod were to cause issue, it would be with part 5 of this mod the TROM + TUP since this part edits the most gameplay based tables.
Even if there is a conflict, i doubt it would be hard to implement a new unit size mod that's compatible. One of these days ill take a look and compare unless you beat me to it.
Cheers for this, I only have done some light modding (mostly just editing others stuff for personal use/tweaks) and it's such a hassle how many files get edited making mod compatibility a hellscape.
One minor thing (I forget if they edit the same tables), would this probably work with a 2x unit count mod? I do love having way more dudes on the screen.
No worries, im not offended. There is still work to do on that end but it's tedious. I was going to convert a lot more generals to the new art style. The art style is actually recycled from another Author and that Author used art from various sources, especially ROTK.
I wanted to mostly refine rulers and the major players first and then really dive in. Right now im just enjoying the game but eventually i need to fix Zhang Liao since he's having portrait crossover.
Also working on fixing one unit that is potentially causing a crash.
It just sticks out if only a few generals only follow that art style, especially since they're prominent ones.
I have used that collection before. It's just that I wanted to try a no generic general campaign. Thanks though!

Everyone seems to be against some of the updated/new portraits i've used. All good though and i understand its not for everyone. I do have a collection that uses vanilla portraits that you could try.
This collection uses a different part 5 and uses the original TROM + TUP mods. That collection does not prevent generic generals from spawning in. Otherwise most of the components are the same:

My part 2 changes character portraits but does not add characters. It might feel like my parts 1,2, and 4 adds characters but i only ramped up historical character spawns.
This mod is intended to be played with another mod of mine that disables generic generals from spawning in entirely
Concealed snakes became avail as a unit. I recruited one. Went to battle with this new unit. Game crashed.
I started this campaign just to see if i could replicate the crash again in a new campaign and we were successful in re creating the crash meaning, something is wrong with either the unit, the hero himself Chen Ji, etc.
I have tried to pinpoint the problem and have had no success so far. Going to see if i can find another hero that can recruit said unit and re create the crash one more time to see if its a unit issue solely.
