@QweizzyKiwi Simple answer: Make sure you leave the sonar off when not using it, as sonars in SW consume a huge amount of electricity. Outside of that(and changing large depths with the stationary depth hold), the engine should make enough power to not drain the battery at most speeds.

More in depth answer: The engine has two modes, indicated by the little lights on the engine control panel. When in D/E mode, the engine runs a generator at 100% throttle(regardless of what the lever is set at). This is to make sure the stationary depth hold/control motors used at lower speeds gets enough electricity. When in direct drive mode, the engine spins the propeller directly(and the generators, but at a much lower RPM). Even this reduced gen output will keep all normal systems working with full electrical, except for the sonar. In fact, the sonar uses so much electrical that even using D/E mode will still not make enough power for it unfortunately.
