That being said, not actually fighting the helicopter at the end feels weird, especially since it is very clearly seeing you enter Black Mesa East.
The closing gate is also a massive pain in the ass to get past. While a cool set piece, the airboat gets knocked around by bombs a lot, and it is very easy to just get screwed over by a bomb dropping near the door causing you to veer slightly off course and not be able to make it through. It could maybe be slightly more generous with the time.
