Very well then, too be fair I didn't really venture into hard mode with this mod, so I don't know how crazy the breathes get, going forward.

That being said, some breathes do seem to be more useful then others.

The Ice variant in particular with it's ability to slow anything, even bosses down, I find to be significantly more powerful then electric breath, which deals a lot of damage, and has range, to be sure.

I don't really have much to say about the other breathes at all, other than I seem to recall the Poison breath having ridiculous knockback, which made it a little awkward to use.
Turtleren  [author] 12 Oct @ 10:26pm
The intention wasn't really to have players swapping between each of the breath types on the go, especially considering the Affinity system and the downsides associated with each breath type.

That being said, you can still use breath gems to swap your breath type on the fly. There's an obvious cost associated with crafting the gem, but it *is* something you can do.
I probably won't be adding a separate system for swapping breath types.
Bullitt 12 Oct @ 10:16pm
I really like the idea of this mod, though I do kind of wish there was an item or something that allowed you to switch between breath types on the fly.

Idk, maybe TLOS games have spoiled me, but it would be a nice, and convenient thing to have as something to be obtained later in progression? Maybe?

I know Hermes doesn't work, was actually part of the reason I asked because I didn't notice a difference with it. But I appreciate the answers a lot! I might see about turning that scaling on, because also playing with Calamity and that stuff can get NUTS.
Turtleren  [author] 6 Oct @ 4:25am
Some of those details aren't really explained, so I'll answer them here for ya:

1. Breath damage doesn't scale with damage types, including generic damage boosts (eg. +10% Damage). The same applies to crit bonuses; breath attacks have 0% crit.
There's a config to enable scaling under L'il Common Config - Server -> Breath Attack -> Breath Scales With Damage Type, but the mod is balanced for having this disabled.

2. You can only have one breath at a time. Using a new gem will override the previous one (but you will keep Breath Power Gem or Affinity Gem bonuses)

3. Hermes is a good start for top speeds. Food helps with acceleration, and an item like the Soaring Insignia helps a lot with mobility, too. The Swiftness Potion's buff works, too. Interestingly, Magiluminescence does not work.
I don't have an exhaustive list, but those are some examples you can try. If it affects your speed or acceleration in the air, it should also work for the hover wings.
Marat 5 Oct @ 10:40pm
I don't know if this was said anywhere, but had a few questions. One, is the breath weapon damage based on any of the damage types, like melee and such? Two, if I were to use the fire breath gem but then use a lightning one, does the lightning one override the fire one? That is, can you only have one active at a time. And three, this is more cause I'm not sure how things interact in game, but what all would effect the flying speed while using the hovering dragon wings?

I do love the mod a lot, and I appreciate you reading my comment here!
Turtleren  [author] 28 Sep @ 4:20pm
I would suggest using a mod like Recipe Browser to check all of the items available! For easy reference though, here's a list supported by pretty much all of my races: Stone, Marble, Gold, Granite, Ice, Ruby, Amber, Topaz, Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst, Diamond.
There's also a secret one available only to the dragons... try throwing the Stone claw into shimmer ;)
P1psqueak2012 28 Sep @ 9:39am
What statue claw variants are in the modpack
Turtleren  [author] 28 Sep @ 4:22am
Eeveelutions mod is out now for any of those who are interested!

ah that's a shame ;0;
amazing work on this mod! i've recently started playing one in a thorium world with friends and it's a lot of fun ^u^
Turtleren  [author] 27 Sep @ 4:03am
They're not in the mod yet, and it's not super likely I'll be adding them any time soon, mostly because they're a hassle to make into place-able tiles, especially when considering the winged/non winged variants and versions on small/large pedestals.
Kiwi 27 Sep @ 3:50am
are there any plans to add cosmetic statues of dragons made out of the various materials you can get via the claw items? Or is that already in the mod and i just haven't figured it out yet? @u@;
Turtleren  [author] 14 Sep @ 6:25pm
Hey all! Big update coming to MrPlague’s Authentic Races (which this mod depends on) in about 12 and a half hours, I’ll be working to get fixes for my mods out as soon as possible once that drops, so if your mods stop loading, just hold tight, I’ll get around to it.

Also, echoing something I recently mentioned on the L’il Discord: Eeveelutions mod WIP ;)
akitoscorpio 8 Sep @ 11:39pm
This is actually a pretty damn fun mod, I apreciate this came pre-ready to play with Calamity, Great work!
Turtleren  [author] 2 Sep @ 9:32pm
That's a limitation of MrPlague's Authentic Races at the moment. There will be an update coming out for that in a couple of weeks (as far as I know) that resolves that issue, though!
Hearth 2 Sep @ 9:18pm
hope youll see this, but you cant recustomize the underbelly with the dresser at all once youve made the character. you can only recolor the scales.
Turtleren  [author] 30 Aug @ 2:19am
Possible (but a hassle), yes, but that sounds like it'd probably in turn cause cases where you can trigger death link twice by going down, then possibly dying later (depending on your settings).
Overall, I'd just suggest changing your config to kill all players when everyone has been downed 🤷
TheHopelessThrumbo 29 Aug @ 12:07pm
I thought it's the most fitting to be posted here... I decided to run a race dependent on Lil Dragons in an Archipelago randomizer, and thought, is it possible for you to make a change to petrification, so uopn occuring, it still sends it as a death to other players when the rando's DeathLink is involved (All players in connected games die, when one of them does)? It works the other way around so why not make the other side suffer too?
Sildrae45 21 Aug @ 8:58am
Very cool, and I hope/wonder if you might add gryphons at some point.
Turtleren  [author] 16 Aug @ 5:02pm
Did you use the Affinity Gem item first? I have no issues getting it to work, but you must have affinity unlocked on your character by using the Affinity Gem, or else you won't get the water breathing buff.
SoulofShadows 16 Aug @ 4:46pm
The water breathing of the electric breath race does not work no matter how much I fiddle with the config. Please help.
Zaign 10 Aug @ 3:41am
Sweet, thanks a bunch!
Turtleren  [author] 10 Aug @ 1:41am
Should be able to easily enough. As far as I can tell, it might even be possible to have separate configs for melee speed and overall attack speed.
I'll roll out what I can in the next update- making some changes for added support in one of my other mods anyways.
Zaign 9 Aug @ 4:09pm
Is there any chance you could add Melee Speed to config options? This might fall under Use Speed in general.

Don't bother if its a pain to add, dont wanna cause more work than is needed.
mouse thing 1 Aug @ 12:48am
would you consider an eevee race mod at any point? would be really cute
Ω Mythical Ω 31 Jul @ 7:44pm
I definitely agree; I've been loving every bit of work you've been doing on this and your other race mods! Easily some of the best work I've seen for mods like this in a while and it's nice having something so high quality for quadrupedal species enjoyers.

And, what I originally came to comment about: A friend and I realized the tether system could be used to set up something similar to what Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon had. Two dragon race players can both use a wand and collar to tether to each other as a fun little gameplay challenge.
Turtleren  [author] 31 Jul @ 7:16pm
Thank you!
This was by no means a simple project, but the codebase it provides today (built on top of the already awesome functionality provided by MrPlague’s Authentic Races, mind you!) has let me create many varied races for everyone to enjoy. We’ll see where my inspiration takes me next…
miles_goldman 31 Jul @ 11:48am
I wanted to say that I genuinely like this mod and the other ones that branched off of it, and I look forward to anything you develop for terraria in the future.
Turtleren  [author] 28 Jul @ 5:32pm
This is a mod conflict. Some mods may modify the player's hitbox in a way that's different from how the L'il Dragon mod does it, so the player's position doesn't get preserved properly.
If you can find which mod is the culprit, I *might* be able to write a patch for it, but otherwise your best bet is to disable hitbox resizing in the L'il Dragon common server config.
Ildari Isoril 28 Jul @ 5:29pm
So an odd bug has popped up, when we spawn in, in both single and multiplayer, the character is dragged to the left. Is there a fix to this?
GGTavern 25 Jul @ 2:10pm
No wait 5,000 DPS
GGTavern 25 Jul @ 2:09pm
Always use electricity breath, it's the one with the highest DPS, unless against a worm boss, once you get it it WILL give you 6,000 DPS with the intense version and can bounce off walls to give you another chance at hitting a target.
Turtleren  [author] 20 Jul @ 8:18am
The health that Rescue Regen heals you up to and the amount needed to be rescued should now be one and the same. It should also heal you up to full even with extra bonuses, but in case it doesn't it *should* still free you once it decides to stop healing you. Let me know if it still has issues in the latest patch!
Turtleren  [author] 20 Jul @ 8:17am
Oop~, must be some quirk with where I'm checking for the player's max health... I'll roll out a patch in a few minutes to adjust the behaviour and hopefully it should resolve any cases like that!
GGTavern 20 Jul @ 8:01am
Rescue Regen despises the player having extra HP added by equipment or 3rd party effects and purposefully tries to not heal you above your base max HP. and with Reaver or Hydrothermic armor in calamity, it's a softlock sometimes due to another bug that stops you from accessing anything while petrified.
Sw1ga 19 Jul @ 2:40pm
realy nice mod play him 10 hours:steamthumbsup::csgostar:
Turtleren  [author] 11 Jul @ 1:52am
As it turns out, Calamity simply subtracts directly from your breath value a few times a second, bypassing all normal forms of breath extension.

I've now implemented a change to slowly regenerate the breath of those with electric affinity. By default, it's quite slow, and not a substitute for proper gear, but you can configure it to be much faster!
Fenrisúlfr 11 Jul @ 12:26am
even races with natural water breathing drown there
Fenrisúlfr 11 Jul @ 12:26am
the abyss does weird stuff with breath time, the only thing I've seen give infinite breath time in the abyss is dancing with the dragon's ocean dragon
Turtleren  [author] 10 Jul @ 7:51pm
I’m not super well-versed in Calamity but I’ll check it out when I get the time. Chances are I’ll probs go for something simple though, like doubling the breath time for electricity affinity (assuming Calamity isn’t doing some whacky stuff with breath in the abyss).
GGTavern 10 Jul @ 6:37pm
lightning dragon not water breathing in abyss, if possible, could you make the breath strength increase the distance you can go in the abyss before water breathing gives out?

(calamity mod)
Turtleren  [author] 9 Jul @ 6:19pm
Thank you! Enjoy the dragons, and spread the word to everyone you know who might enjoy this mod ;)
Aether 9 Jul @ 5:08pm
Just wanted to let you know Turtleren, Just found out about your mod, and I LOVE it
Doctor_problems 6 Jul @ 11:04am
Great mod, thanks!
Turtleren  [author] 2 Jul @ 11:15pm
Thank you for the comment, dragons for all!
DJBacon 2 Jul @ 5:07pm
This is so good, I've been waiting ages fro a dragon mod for this game, thank you!
Turtleren  [author] 26 Jun @ 6:46pm
The config code is actually surprisingly simple. Splitting things up into smaller categories helps with finding what you want faster, though.
Solarium_ 26 Jun @ 3:38pm
@turtleren probably looked crazy in the code
Turtleren  [author] 13 Jun @ 4:54pm
Hi all! Please note that there will be an update coming which will split the current server config file into multiple files. As a result, you will likely lose a number of config customisations you've made, if any.
The current server config file is getting pretty large, so this split will help with managing the config options in the future. Sorry for any trouble!
Arakamira 26 May @ 5:33pm
Actually, maybe the armour penetration would fit more on lightning breath than fire considering it's lower base damage
