If you are 100% sure those squads are supposed to move though, can you specify what difficulty you were on (different tags) and exactly what section you saw this at? Only real fix at that point is reducing AI count.

@chrisbabylon117 - Pathfinding is untouched, squads are just duplicated. So if said squad never got pathfinding in vanilla, they won't in XL.

great idea however the AI path-finding could use some work played some of the first level of 3 and only 2 marines followed me all the others just stood there where they spawned however the Covenant AIs spawned where they were supposed too so it was interesting however when the friendly AI isnt there -shrug

@ecobear - The final level is so much easier than the 2021 version of Halo 3 XL. The original version had Sentinels able to fire incredibly far away. It took us hours to beat.

The current version reverts the sentinel’s aim back to vanilla to make it significantly easier.

If you are playing Legendary iron coop, the driver and gunner must communicate and work together to avoid/kill sentinels. If you are playing Legendary iron on single player that is crazy.

The last level feels like an RNG test on whether the sentinels will let you through. It is totally possible, but after 12 hours on Legendary Iron trying to beat it, I have no doubt beating the final level is based entirely on luck and not skill. 4XL Iron Legendary on CE, 2, Reach, and 4, has been brutal but doable. Even the Jackal Snipers in Halo 2 do not compare to the 30 sentinel cluster that guard the final section of the level. The fact that you have to pass directly under them with no cover and have at best 15 seconds to kill them before you must drive and pray that they don't melt you or push you off of the map makes it the most difficult and absurd section in the entirety of 4XL Halo.

The floor keeps collapsing before we can make any progress, and we do have iron on... but at least we know it's possible. I suppose we must keep suffering then...

@Clumsy - Yep many times! The sentinels are not given enhanced view distance like other AI on this specific level, so the player can stay outside of their range quite easily; especially if the driver lets the gunner take some out before moving closer.

The original version from 2021 had the sentinels given excellent view distance and it was insanely difficult on Legendary with iron.

Thanks! Have you beaten the last mission on legendary There's a couple parts in the warthog where there's like 40-50 sentinels with no cover. We managed to beat the first one only by flip-rolling the warthog like a cartoon across the open space and into the tunnel lmao, (after the first platform), but the second has two swarms back to back and we died at least two dozen times trying to drive past them/shoot them before the platform collapses before we gave up

All the workers exploding and ragdolling seems to cause crashes - it doesn't happen every time, but its enough to cause frustration after almost reaching the end on legendary

@urmum - I recommend backing up your original map files before deleting them; but verifying steam files quickly gets them back.

Copy the actual missions; ignore campaign.map and shared.map:

Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\976730\3136665701\Maps\

to:

Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection\halo3\maps\

Start the game with anti cheat disabled, and play the built-in campaign.

The mission "The Storm" has been consistently crashing when the Hunters fire at the fusion coils and civilian workers. This did not used to happen :)

@urmum - Copy the map files from the workshop folder and overwrite the vanilla maps. Or use the nexus mods version which is the same thing as this mod but in a zip to extract.

@Derp Vader - Thanks. We played this coop on heroic without crashes. The part where hunters appear chasing the civilians is where people reported a crash last time. Was it at that area?

It looked like I spawned too many civilians and I did lower that. I can lower it some more if that is the area. Strange!

From playing this 40 minutes I can say on mouse and keyboard it's fun as a cluster fuck decluster fuck exercise if you wish to have a more authentic 3d sandbox experience. Enemies shoot from basically as far as possible. I like that. So you're having to really do your angles, suppressive fire, battle tactics like drawing your opponents towards you or drawing fire to reduce stress on your marines so they can get in better positions and carry them through the map further. Really fun. I played it on Heroic first mission with an input lag handicap really really fun really switches it aup a bunch until my gunplay on mouse and keyboard can be more consistently good on pvp 4v4 ai sometimes are a little goofy I have no clue what you can even do to attempt fixing that but a higher fidelity pathing would appear to be needed or maybe 2.5x at same long range would be cleaner, Legendary and a few aggression skulls

@ODSTklecc1255 - The graphical issues for Halo 3 and ODST will still persist even at just 2x AI in many areas. Those two games are sensitive to higher AI count, but at 5x, the guns will stop doing damage and AI will stop being reactive.

You can still play the 2021 Halo 3 XL on NexusMods which is 2-3x if you want a lower AI count.
The work required to make a new 3x version will be quite time consuming so it will not happen easily.

Anyway you can do a 3X for all games? The 4X seems right on the tip of success but is really hammered by the limits of the engine, if you can make it 3X instead, maybe that'll keep the flavor of the mod while also easing up on the engine?

The scorpion tank is spawning normally even on 4 player coop, so I am not sure if it was the tank mentioned below.

@TheCoolGuy18294 Huh sorry to hear. The Scorpion tank near the finale? It is appeared for us in playtesting but I've seen some strange things like this happen before. The one thing I can think of is I have too many friendly AI in a specific squad.

I'll take a look and see if I can fix that. You can copy the map from your workshop folder to your halo 3 maps directory to manually resume on rally point charlie in the meantime if you want.

Personally, i think it fits as it shows the absolute shitshow that you experience in the mod. I just think you should upload another image that is just the title on a transparent background.

@Finnegan Forkbastard - Would you recommend using a less distracting background image for the steam image? It is just a built-in font for Windows and a random screenshot I selected, nothing too crazy. I don't have that much artistic talent!

I can try lowering the AI count a bit after the scarab is destroyed on 'The Storm' with next update. The strange thing is, the overall AI count isn't that high where this crashing occurs for you and Jason. I can't replicate it which is pretty interesting.

@Ahuizotl Weapons will despawn quickly when the player enters a new area for the map to load. I cannot fix that, but the abandonment time is 5x longer if you stay in the same area.

Duplicated AI still follow their original orders. If a duplicated squad has no orders, I haven't given them new ones. If they appear stuck, they should become unstuck when the player advances.

Projectiles can become invisible when too many AI are alive. This has been minimized for the most part. If the weapon does no damage, too many AI are alive for your PC to handle.

What is your CPU and GPU? This has been tested on R7 5800X3D + RTX 3080, R9 7950X3D + 7900XTX and an i5-4690 + GTX 1070. The i5 system experiences significantly more graphical glitches, but they never had weapons do no damage.

We have just playtested the hunters section on the storm several times without crashing on the i5 system.
