The assets of this mod are independent so should not cause the "incompatibility" that can generally occur with combinations of mods
Technically, particle textures are not subject to unloading so reside in VRAM while the game even though these textures are completely not showed in the screen.
By the way the total size of textures in this mod's particle assets is 15MB.

Really love this mod, but holy BEEP does it make my game lag. was getting 15fps when I had the mod installed. I get 60+ fps when I have it uninstalled. might have some compatibility issues.

No, sadly can't. Half-tansparent texture can be used in very limited situations on Kenshi.
I think in particles (like this mod), shirt texture (strictly it's not, it multiplies colors by alpha) and water surface. That's all.
So unless someone publishes a modding of the game built-in shader which is very complex and difficult, it is not possible to render anything else with transparency.

any way you can make a ghost faction type somehow with this? like ghosts you'd see on a rare occasion

This somehow feels like it would fit nicely in the vanilla game. I'm not sure why, but it just 'feels' like it.
