While this can be a pain for those who made patches, or use my mods as dependency; chances are they would need to update them for 1.5 anyway so seemed the best time.
I also tweaked how some things work (I planned to restructure a some older mods (like this one) in any case) so there's also that - for example, previously the Megaspider dropped chitin plate, but now it drops chitin leather (chitin plate is now the result of processing) like the others, as this feels more natural.
Regarding your patch in particular, my apologies for the additional trouble the changes have caused you, but hopefully it is not too much trouble.
Only flexible chitin is referred to as a "leather" so it can be used in making clothes easily. I intentionally did things way as the chitin from a megaspider is much harder than to that of the other insectoids, and not suitable for clothing.
My pawns did manage to kill them though. Had to lock off the rooms, and set up a trap run, but they did it. Also, after reading the description of the Megaspider, I'm thinking of adding a chance for them to drop ripper-blades usable as a weapon (like elephants and thrumbo) - will prolly be average stats between those two.
At that time, I may tweak the other defense value a little, if it feels too much in-game, but given leather armour should be quickly kicked to the wayside in favour of better equipment, and by the time one could easily defeat insects, the player should already have better gear.
TBH though, given the awful insulation values, I can't chitin being a viable armour for anything other that situational use, such as and upgrade from leather for Combat Shields: Lite neolithic shield, the isihlangu (made from leather and wood)
Thrumbo: 2.08 sharp, 0.36 blunt, 1.5 heat: 34 cold 22 heat insul
Megasloth: 1.24 sharp, 0.24 blunt, 1.5 heat: 30 cold, 14 heat insul
Bearskin: 1.12 sharp, 0.24 blunt, 1.5 heat: 20 cold, 20 heat insul
Muffalo: 0.81 sharp, 0.24 blunt, 1.5 heat: 20 cold 16 heat insul
Carapace: 1.26 sharp, 0.41 blunt, 0 heat: 10 cold, 10 heat insul
Chitin: 1.55 sharp, 0.55 blunt, 0 heat; 8 cold, 8 heat insul
In game terms, difficulty in obtaining chitin is about equal to that of thrumbo, but harder than megasloth (which is stupidly easy to obtain given its values) and everything else. Against megasloth, it is only marginally superior in defence, dreadful for insulation and useless against fire.
however the original authors resource stats seem a bit on the too high-end imho.
126% sharp and 41% blunt makes it too good.
