@Bolisaris: It is indeed very outdated. Thank you for using it!
Bolisaris 29. juli 2019 kl. 13:29
I am clearing out my mods and getting rid of unsupported mods, this being one of them.

@GuantanaMo I heard from another guy he had to reupload it before the tags appeared.. Steam workshop sure has its quirks heh
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 6. feb. 2015 kl. 14:24
How do I add a tag? This skybox was created before there were categories and I can't find an option to add new tags.

Please tag your mod as Skybox! It makes it confusing when trying to filter down large amounts of mods ;) Otherwise great skybox!

250 000 pc is roughly x10 the distance from Sol of the farthest point of the Milkyway galaxy.
But other than that frankly minor quibble it looks pretty good.
SoulTechnology 26. aug. 2014 kl. 16:35
if only there were more photoes of this skybox in action rather then a thumbnail (im assuming thats a thumbnail)... maby a darker version?
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 13. aug. 2014 kl. 16:42
I made a Steam group for fans of Space Engine and Space Engineers. If you have any requests for specific skyboxes or if you want to discuss how to make them please join: Space Engineers meets Space Engine
Sayoko 13. aug. 2014 kl. 14:34
Oh! Thank you, GuantanaMo!
Buzwell 13. aug. 2014 kl. 13:22
Loving that Space Engine usage! Two great space games utilized!
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 13. aug. 2014 kl. 11:05
@Powerman123: I created a skybox using the planet you recommended, I think it turned out nicely - http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=300004475
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 13. aug. 2014 kl. 9:05
@Silenvo: You can now find the old version here . Hope this helps!
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 13. aug. 2014 kl. 7:24
@Silenvo: Sorry! I'll upload the old version so you can still shoot it.
Legendsky 13. aug. 2014 kl. 5:24
и что это?
Sayoko 12. aug. 2014 kl. 20:12
Noooo!!! The update ruined the perfect scene I was about to shoot. Gaaah! *Sadface*
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 12. aug. 2014 kl. 17:28
@plowablebat82: Sure, actually this one is procedural too! I need the correct RS... number though to find it :)
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 12. aug. 2014 kl. 17:26
Update 1.1:
* Doubled the resolution, it's now officially 4k. That's why the file is slightly bigger. Please give me feedback if you notice any improvements over other skyboxes (most are 2k).
* Repositioned the camera: Planet is now slightly bigger.
* Various texture improvements, removed plenty of artifacts (there should be no visible edges anymore)
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 12. aug. 2014 kl. 17:22
Nice finds guys. I'll see what I can do. If I manage to create proper skyboxes with those (sometimes I just can't translate Space Engine's beauty on a cube map!) I'll credit you too of course.

@WWadlol: Further down I described how to the exported skybox files are put into a single file. After that (and lots of optimizations like dithering and changes in the color balance and so on) I follow the official modding guide, basically I mostly use the vanilla Environment.sbc and change the skybox to mine, set up the folder structure and put the texture.dds in it. Workshop is really straightforward from this point. Maybe I'll also write a guide with some tips and tricks for using Space Engine images in Space Engineers but I'm still learning new stuff every day.
Alcyone Star 12. aug. 2014 kl. 17:17
@GuantanaMo: Np dude Skyboxing a cool galaxy would be cool but idk i could probably find a nice ACTUAL place for you, because you cant use the randomly generated ones right? Or if you can boy do I got a lot.
Wadol 12. aug. 2014 kl. 14:58
Anyway, how do you make a skybox? I know how to export the textures, but not "importing them into space engineers" part.
Wadol 12. aug. 2014 kl. 14:55
(RSC 1713-832-3-389-85 1) Above or inside a gas giant's rings. In the backround there is a globular cluster, and 2 galaxies about to collide.
Tobastin 12. aug. 2014 kl. 12:06
Oh, I've got a good one: RS 0-1-2-1178-5520-7-1124370-74 A3

It's a warm terra with life. It would be perfect for human habitation, except its atmosphere has one-fifth the pressure of the earth. I just want it in a skybox because it's one of the best planets I've found.
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 12. aug. 2014 kl. 11:30
@WhiteWeasel: Oops, you're right. No idea how I missed that. Next update (coming soon) will have those lines removed and hopefully much higher resolution.

@plowablebat82: I agree, Space Engine is awesome². Spent so many hours in this wonderful program. If you have any favourite Space Engine spots you want to have skybox'ed just drop me a line and I can take a stab at it if you want.
SkekDris 11. aug. 2014 kl. 21:02
Hey, while I really like this skybox, I can kinda see faint red lines of the cube map intersections and it breaks my immersion. I hope it's fixed soon.
Alcyone Star 11. aug. 2014 kl. 18:36
SpaceEngine is awesome please anyone who downloads this go check out SpaceEngine! Give SpaceEngine more support because that game is incredible it is really unique. They have a free download on their website too just go to the greenlit page for it. Actually I didnt check to see if this was from SpaceEngine or not but I had a feeling it was because of the large megallanic cloud the small one and the horsehead nebula and the orion/flame nebula it all looked exactly as space engine does.

Tobastin 10. aug. 2014 kl. 17:04
Thanks. That was a quick response.
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 10. aug. 2014 kl. 17:01
@Powerman123: This thread [forums.keenswh.com] has a template for the cubemap layout. Basically you need to put the exported files into a single file next to each other, problem is you need to figure out which goes where. Lots of trial and error. I hope to publish an improved template soon.
Once you got all the exported textures into the single file export them again, I use Nvidia's DDS tools. Still trying to figure out the best settings.
Tobastin 10. aug. 2014 kl. 16:52
How did you convert a skybox taken in SpaceEngine into one that can be uploaded to Space Engineers? This is something I've been trying to figure out, but my problem is that the exported skybox is 6 seperate images instead of one. Do I just take a screenshot in skybox mode?
Mannax 9. aug. 2014 kl. 16:21
I will try
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 9. aug. 2014 kl. 12:55
@GUNNER667 I haven't played it and so far I couldn't even find any screenshots of those planets. If you can provide some pictures I might be able to do this somehow but no guarantees.
Mannax 9. aug. 2014 kl. 7:18
@GuantanaMo I have a few requests. If you everplayed the original Xbox game MechAssault 2: Lonewolf: Could you do a few planets from there. Like Dante or even Thestria?
Space Wolf Hudson 8. aug. 2014 kl. 12:44
Good one, Space Engine is great. It is not Saturn though.
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 8. aug. 2014 kl. 3:02
Thanks a lot!

@Bunny: It's more of a problem of perspective since I wanted the player to be as close to the actual ring as possible. It actually goes around the planet, it's just really really thin from this point of view. If you look at the preview picture you can actually see it.
Also because of the lighting I had to choose a view of the planet that doesn't really show the ring's shadows.
Bunny 7. aug. 2014 kl. 21:05
Really pretty - though it annoys me that the ring doesn't go around the planet, just out into space indefinetly. I imagine that's a limitation of drawing on a cube though.
Xexcel 7. aug. 2014 kl. 18:22
okay im realy dificult on chosing my skybox... +1 love that one ;3
M0ther_bra1n 7. aug. 2014 kl. 17:01
I love it. I have to look into how to make these things myself beacuse I love SpaceEngine.
GuantanaMo  [ophavsmand] 7. aug. 2014 kl. 16:49
I intend to create more semi-realistic skyboxes using Space Engine, so let me know if there's anything in particular you want me to look for.
