3. Unther is even worse off than Mulhorand. Building an army large enough to take even one province takes a very long time. One of the two, Unther or Mulhorand, is the weakest faction in the game, and the other one is the second weakest. Lurien is a powerhouse next to them.
4. Thay Darkbeasts are way too strong. Maybe tone them down a bit. Like removing 3 attacks. Dark unicorns are too strong as well. Glamour is too much.

2. Mulhorand has a tough start. The 3 God statues are very hard on the upkeep – they start with almost no soldiers, and if Cult of Dragons wants to, they can be in the city of the Gods in turn 2 with enough force to win. There is nothing Mulhorand can really do to stop it. The 3 “statues” have incredibly high upkeep. Osiris has +1000 added upkeep. The two others have +100, and together, they have 150gp pr. Turn in upkeep, and it is tough to build any kind of force as Mulholland. The city only has around 80 res so it takes them many turns to build enough chariots to even take a weak indi land.
The Gods Have old age, all of them, that is a bit strange and you may want to set their old age to start at like 20000 or something more “realistic”

1. Archons – they are very, super fantastically strong. The promotion mechanic is way too easy on them. Summon lantern archons, have them sit back and shoot till they promote to hounds. 10 hounds in a group with blessing items and attack rear will smack most small to medium armies in the game. Once they are promoted again, they are the most potent thing in the game. The last promotion with solar swords is hitting daemons for 100+ damage. Nothing in the game can stand against them. On top of this, they have a map covering teleport – that is way too strong. They are the strongest thing in the game by a very large margin.

First off, it's a Great Mod and fun map!
My friends and I are currently having a blast with your mod on Dominions 5. Personally, I find it more enjoyable than the vanilla game and the enhanced version, primarily due to the reduced number of summons and the absence of super-combat/thug potential at the start. The adventurous aspect of the mod/map is also a big plus for me.
As I mentioned, I play the game with friends; in our setup we play as a team vs all the other nations in their own team. As we have played, we have noticed several details that may warrant you addressing them.

Gotcha - the Dom 6 version has a unique update feature that will keep your games from getting screwed up actually. So feel free to swing over to the Dom6 version and download, and be sure to grab the map as well as the mod.

Steam doesn't fully support Dominions 5, so this file is just a placeholder. You'll want to grab the latest version of both map and mod from the links on the dominionsmods site.

Regou13 - I removed the Scenario tag from the map file, which should eliminate the 65 province victory condition for you and anyone else facing off with that. It never was an issue on my end, but I hope this solves the problem. You will need to make a new game, of course, with version 1.91.

The mod is very interesting to play, but it seem to be impossible to change the victory condition.
when i select victory by province this is always 65 to win and its impossible to make another victory condition
i surely miss something
But its a very good job :)

Version 1.08 is up - be sure to head over to the dominionsmods link - Steam and Dominions 5 do not mesh at all with total conversions.

Drop the map into your AppData/Roaming/Dominions5/maps folder
Drop the mod into your AppData/Roaming/Dominions5/mods folder

Enjoy summonable devils, an enjoyable start with Baldur's Gate, and tons of little bug fixes.

Hey March -

I think the "Lord of doors and beginnings... blah blah" is something the game itself creates - modders, as far as I know, don't have any control over the titles given to the gods. Its purely flavor.

Glad you're enjoying, and toying around with using it to help prep for tabletop play. Creating the mod surely gave me a far greater understanding of the setting than I ever thought I'd have, so enjoy exploring all the little details I worked in. One HUGE thing that's missing from Waterdeep is Undermountain (and Skullport by extension), which connects, eventually, to the Underdark.

That's going to be my full focus going forward with some recent offers of help to fix up some of the little bugs and scripting errors.

One other very small issue I've noticed is that the faction you choose to lead also renames your title to the patron deity of that city-state. For example, I chose Mystra, goddess of magic as my pretender, but it says she is "Lord of doors and beginnings and endings, king of men's fates, sword of balance"

I can't find a reference in the Faerunian pantheon to that particular description of a deity, but it sounds familiar (Pathfinder maybe?)

Anyway, the issue is really little more than a typo level issue. It has no impact on the game.

Beyond that, I love this map. It meshes so well with the fact that I've been working up a Waterdeep based campaign for my table top group :)

I installed Mod version 1.07c from the above website, and upon loading it into Dom5, I got a message that says it contains 17 errors.

Hey General Hawk, my pleasure. Glad you're enjoying it.

As for an Elven Faction .... I'm gonna say a big "maybe." I would really need to be convinced it would fit the lore and rough time period. I did consider a Dalelands faction at one point. They were just too crammed in there with Cormyr and fighting between them seemed to not fit the setting. I decided to beef up the indies instead in order to delay rapid expansion into the region.

New nations are not the hardest thing to mod in given the number of units already present. Just feels like, with my limited time, I need to shore up and balance what's already there. Baldur's Gate, for example, is still almost entirely untouched, and people have been pointing out some needed improvements elsewhere. So not a NO, but probably far down the priority list.

Real life has got in the way of 1.08 update, but much of the work is done and its just playtesting out the egregious bugs and responding to community requests / balance suggestions. Probably looking at mid June for the next update.

Ok, mmm maybe a way to switch the slave armies into undead armires on scale, that at least to movie lore would seem befitting. Like you have a mass sacrifice in a current spell casters army depending on living units count, that then all become undead. As a side effect the population in the casting region going dramaticly down and corpses slightly up.

Death, Drain, and Chaos/Turmoil spreading automatically applies those scales to the province where the pretender resides. Typically these are attached to sites, but a few units have them as well - including most of the FR Mod's immobile pretenders. It won't effect the whole of your dominion, just the province where they reside.

Kingrimm - This is true, you'll need to twiceborn your wizards and raise your own undead armies. The Thayans may supplement their forces with the undead, and may be ruled by liches following Szass Tam's coup, but they are still a nation of the living (albeit not a place you'd want to live). You can still have want vast undead hordes, but its going to cost you death gems and research.

You may find the Zhentarim more enjoyable, as they get a cheap priest of Myrkul, who is a reanimator, and both Manshoon and Fzoul are very powerful liches.

I'll consider adding the Myrkulite priest to the Thayan roster in the next update, but with the already huge armies of slave soldiers they can raise, it might be overkill. Thay is already a touch OP.

so i was trying to make a pretender god, I choose Thay Red Wizards. as anything else wouldn't make sense with a necromancer playthrough. Yet they have not one unit that is undead. Having no sacred undead units makes blessings death blessings utterly useless.

I haven't played Dominions for a while and may have missed death/drain/chaoss/ spreading abilities, what are they about? In i liked playing the necromancer nations, but was offput by the micro management eventuially. Still, are there depending on death scales then also regular undead spawns?

Your comment seems to imply a crash at startup after a proper install, but also seems to later say you were moving/deleting files. A little confused in that regard. But glad you got it to work though, and very glad you're enjoying it!

So, I just downloaded the 1.07 and 1.07b mods, put them in the dominions5 map and mod roaming folders, and started the game.
I activated the mod, selected Raz_Forgotten_Realms_1_07.map, and tried to start a game.
3 Times, I got a crash “FSA: Bad image file.”
At first, I was looking at the mod site for the 1.06 mod, in order to see if that would work, and to see if I’m missing some critical files.

However, I figured out what went wrong: I pulled the Waterdeep and FRlogo out of the ForgottenRealms folder, as I was worried about those folders serving as subfolders and messing stuff up.
Turns out, the mod is actively looking for that folder name to function!

Hopefully, this info helps some people who were having some trouble getting this to work.
Playing it now, it’s great! Maybe once I get a proper handle on how it plays, I’ll show it off a bit.

Zahir, you can subscribe here for sure, but the files you'll need are on the link.

To install, you'll need to extract the mod and map folders into your local files manually. Most will find these under C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Dominions5

There will be four folders in that location, Helper Files, maps, mods, and savedgames. Extract your zips into the proper folders - map folder in the zip goes in "maps" and the mod folder and loose ForgottenRealms.dm file go into the "mods" folder.

When you launch the game, the main menu will have a link to 'Mods' on the startup screen where you can activate the Forgotten Realms mod by clicking on it. Ignore the error messages.

When you go to Create a New Game, you should see the Faerun map, version 1.06. Launch and play away.

If any of this is missing, you've likely created too many sub-folders on accident. You can probably figure it out yourselves, but feel free swing back here and share what's wrong and I'll be happy to troubleshoot.

Well for that usually we the users are enabled to go into the options to turn autoupdate off as far as i know. There are games which even carry on past versions in parallel and we can switch between those version and their updates or freeze our games on one particular version.

I believe it is because of Steam's requirement for auto-updates and the way multi-player on Dominions 5 works - MP games can take 6 months or more - but if something as simple as a pixel on a map changes and that auto-updates during that time, then it will wreck the MP game. At least that's my understanding.

damm it, that again. I know about quite a bunch of such situations. Not sure why some game developers decide not to fully support the steam workshop. If there are some hidden motives they fear or if its just a hustle for them. I can just say that for us "users" it is very convenient and i at times spend more time on reading up on mods than even playing the games ^^.

Kinngrimm - if I could, I would - unfortunately, Steam only supports Dominions 5 map files, not more comprehensive mods. This is why all you find on the Workshop is maps. You'd never know there was an active and passionate modding community behind this game if you've never left the Steam Workshop.

i love steam workshop for not having to actually put files anywhere so a mod would work. Would you please update the mod here on steam itself?

Also having read through the factions and recently watching the D&D movie which ofc totally makes me an expert ^^, wouldnt the Red Wizards have undead at their command? An undead nation maybe even, therefor taking death scales would be beneficial to them?

MarauderB - very glad you're enjoying so far. Those are annoying bugs. I'll run a domsummon fix on the Artificer - he shouldn't be summoning Kholstar. And those Lantern Archons... grrr... yep, quick fix on the way.

FYI: Playing as Mystra.
Couple of bugs I have encountered:
- Halruaan Artificer: Summon allies - summons (only) Kholstar and the next turn he always "disappears in a puff of smoke." (I think he is supposed to arrive leader instead of a unit.)
- Summoned a lantern archon. Came in fine but it seems to never gain experience, even after leading units in battles.
