That other thing is not far from the "cosmic fire pit", though
Can't find that "cultist gibberish" or "reversed screams" they've talked about.
Also technically with how I implemented the map he's not 100% required, buuut. All removing him does is inconvenience you if you do it before he's served his purpose.[/spoilers]

Also keep in mind if you shoot the correct thing more than once, it is possible to re-lock the secret. It's a toggle.
And the stores are decorative, by their very nature they don't open.
But maybe solving the riddle will allow you to open them...
