Finally got round to playing this route and it is excellent - especially the AI 03s!

Hi Bobonschmatzer, it might have been my own fault at Dunkeld & Birham... you get two greens (enter platform, leave platform) followed almost immediately by a third that is red, and I wasn't sure if it was for one of the two sidings adjacent to it. Only my second time through so not familiar with the layout. Came to a stop and signaller advised waiting for the local DMU to clear the block ahead. All good!

Playlist is this one (I find the game very evocative of the era, so I always have appropriate music like this or ska/rocksteady for my runs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiBXsm99Fm8

Oh, meatballs, another thing: Which northern soul playlist?
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 16 Apr, 2022 @ 4:13am
Hello Meatballs, glad you like the route. All class 03s you are seeing are scenery only. I wonder why the signaller advised you to go back.. mh. I will look into that when the scenery update is released.

Just drove the North to South Express 04 with a Northern Soul playlist in the background - lovely route! Really feel like you're up in the highlands to start with as you start your descent. Like a few others, noticed being diverted to take the "left" track where this was unnecessary but am sure this will improve with time. Likewise brought to a stand outside Murthly with two 03s also waiting their path, no message from signaller, had to SPAD past it and when I got to Stanley only then did signaller contact me and advise me to back up and then route got set correctly.

Like seeing all the other trains and parked wagons along the way, and the new assets you added, too. Great stuff.

@Lapioware

oh , great .
This is a good thing , automatik place for yellow arm Signals near Stations .
Lapioware  [developer] 15 Mar, 2022 @ 10:15am
@bonbon you can right-click a signal and choose "add distant" to automatically add the yellow-arm distant signal (Vorsignal) in the right place. Don't do this for every signal though, but only for the outermost signals for each station

@bonbonschmatzer
i wait for the next big update for DRS also ^^ , but lapioware says the signal controller check 200 m before the signal for the train and then sets the signal. ( older readme / Diskussion in Steam )
Is now the train 30 miles/h or more fast , i brake to 20-30 miles/h , check the signal and now go to stop or go .

are here found a help ( or better question in the discussion page from DRS )f

not found a guide at the workshop DRS

- a Signalling guide (UK/DE/US)

- Signals in UK
https://www.railsigns.uk

in germany normally non-main signals are 700 or 1000 meter before the main signal . It is for Trains to stop eventuelly in front of the signal with fast speed incoming.

thx for the route , this and other routes are a great mod thing for dRS .
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 15 Mar, 2022 @ 2:46am
Hello Cali, Yes, I skipped the addition of non-main signals for now because
1. To be honest, I don´t feel confident enough to use them at the moment.
2. I noticed that all signals are in areas where the train is in such speedlimits that you can spot if a signal is at danger or not. It could well be that the original route had no non-main signals, need to research that.

I think I will add these signals where necessary when adding rivers and lochs and bridges after the next big DRS update.

Danke für deinen Kommentar :) Ich habe keine Ahnung vom Signale setzen, wo welche zu sein haben etc. Deswegen bin ich über jede Anregung dahingehend dankbar.

Need to revert my comment on christof about too tight corners. If you find some unrealistically tight corners, please comment and I´ll have a talk with them!
Cali 14 Mar, 2022 @ 12:14am
a question for this good route . ( Non - Main Signals )

i see only main signals .
It this planned for - at longer distances or fast route elements - non-main signals ? ( in german Vorsignale )

normally i break under 20 miles , see the signal 200 meter and see the signal free or not and go to speed or stop . With non - Main signals for fast routes i see before the signal free oder i must stop.

or is this normally on the real route for this workshop route ?

:2015coal: thx , great info
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 12 Mar, 2022 @ 2:39am
In short: Yes, it is planned to add freight services.
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 12 Mar, 2022 @ 2:39am
Hello Cali, thank you! The problem is that the route is crowded with passenger trains right now. A idea could be to schedule freight trains to night times or to do another timetable specially for freight trains.

Or maybe make the current timetable a weekday timetable and create a weekend timetable with reduced number of passenger trains and with freight trains instead. - maybe make this one the default timetable then.
Cali 11 Mar, 2022 @ 11:48pm
very nice to drive Route . Are Freight Trains in the Timetable are planned or / and more Freight Traffic ?
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 8 Mar, 2022 @ 3:41am
Thanks for your findings :) The idea of the detour at platforms was the "left drive" in the uk. I try to run the train at the most "left" way possible, so to speak. It may be that an upcoming train (at their left) is standing in the middle track waiting for the express to pass. That was the idea behind it. I´m lacking the expertise in the timetable department, atleast for now, there are certainly better ways of doing these things. Go ahead volunteers :D
Thanks again for the comment, I hope you honk at the blimp when driving north to south :)

Hey today I drove the North to South Exress 02 and I really enjoyed the hills and winding curves through the Druimuachdar Summit descending in to the more crowded part of the route. One thing to note was the pathfinding at Ballinluig where I was taken through the platform instead of continuing on the passing track in the middle. Shouldn't an express train just go through the middle instead? https://i.imgur.com/1zA18E1.jpeg Also at Guay and Dalguise we took a detour to the left platform but perhaps this is necessary since there's no free track in the middle on those stations.

Also the south exit from Guay seemed too tight.

Enjoy driving for the Highland railways as always :)

@Christofr93 The route is based in real life and was traced with map data. It should be this tight in real life too.
christofr93 7 Mar, 2022 @ 12:35pm
Nice start but as said before the curves on the route are really tight
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 6 Mar, 2022 @ 7:29am
I updated the route and tried to make the sidings less tight.
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 6 Mar, 2022 @ 5:35am
@Nappula Thank you for the comment, your suggestions are noted down and a update will adress that. Feel free to add things you encounter any time.
Nappula [SPU-V] 6 Mar, 2022 @ 5:11am
I always enjoy driving in such vast and quite realistic looking landscapes. Some remarks from the route "Stanley to Aberfeldy". I feel like the sidings at many stations were too tight or the speed limit too fast for the curve. Also on the approach to Aberfeldy, where the speed limit changes to 50 there is a quite tight curve that should drop the speed limit to 30 instead of increasing to 50 from 40 or at least it seems like similar curves earlier in the routes have. :)
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 6 Mar, 2022 @ 3:33am
@Lapioware Thank you! I´m looking forward to add the rivers and lochs with the scenery update :)
Bonbonschmatzer  [author] 6 Mar, 2022 @ 3:32am
@robredhead: Why is that?
robredhead 6 Mar, 2022 @ 3:31am
Looks like the route is ideal to drive with a Raildriver controller.
Lapioware  [developer] 5 Mar, 2022 @ 10:31am
Very nicely done and enjoyable route! Loving the steep gradients and the custom objects. This'll look great with the forthcoming scenery update!
