Lethal Food Poisoning

This makes me think of Severe Food Poisoning, with the lethal one being cause: Inferior Incompetent Cook or Lethally Dangerous Food Type. Was also thinking that Lvl 10 cooks no longer have a chance to lethally poison a food.

please consider updating to 1.5

if you ever make this more advanced, you could make it so that better cooks are more likley to, if they do give you food poisioning, for it to be the "safe" one. Same for cleanliness.

For instance, a level one cook might make 10 safe, 10 "old", and 20 "new" (New being yours)
the level 20 made, however, 30 safe, 9 old, and 1 new.

Same with cleaner kitchens. Cleaner increases the "safe", decreases the "unsafe", as well as just downright making it less likley!

So, not only do better cooks give you less food poisioning, they also are less likley to lethaly poision you! Same with cleaner kitchens.

Finally, people should be able to normally recover from food poisioning (A baser will often only get to medium or medium-high severity). But, if you have sickly, or another disease, or genes that weaken your immunity... of course, randomness means anyone can be killed by it (short of "Perfect Immunity")

Well there is a new hediff added by this mod so I'll assume it's not, however I have no idea how Van's mod works
Mycroft 22 Mar, 2023 @ 6:42pm
Is this compat with Sir Van's "Food Poisoning Cures"? I assume so since you probably didn't actually change all that much, but then again i'm just making an ASSUMPTION vs having actual data.

Eating without a table will grant 100% food poisining chance

LETHAL food poisoning?? omg you people are masochists
Argón  [author] 3 Jan, 2022 @ 10:13am
You can upload it somewhere like imgur and link it here or just share it through discord if you want.

I turned on dev mode and looked through the log in a new colony where I had a colonist eat a corpse with guaranteed lethal. Nothing appeared in the Debug Log that would indicate an error or conflict of any king. Is there any way I can send you a screenshot of what I'm seeing?
Argón  [author] 3 Jan, 2022 @ 8:13am
What? wait that's not supposed to be like that, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of conflict going on. Have you checked your errors log?

So I haven't had a single pawn survive a lethal food poisoning. Is it even possible to recover from? There doesn't appear to be an immunity/recovery counter like other vanilla illnesses like the flu etc.
Argón  [author] 18 Dec, 2021 @ 5:50pm
seems doable and useful, will keep it in mind. Also glad you liked the mod c:

I love this, food poisoning can actually be lethal irl especially for some people who are already sick with other things or have pre-existing conditions.

I'd like to suggest a mod option/setting that toggles the severity/deadliness however, like Wiseman05 mentioned, it's pretty much an instant death sentence if you start tribal.
Senacharim 17 Nov, 2021 @ 5:35pm
@Wiseman05 Thank you!

Good news is this does have compatibility with "Bed Rest For Food Poisoning". In fact, I'm currently testing it out, and there doesn't seem to be an issue between the two. It just counts both food poisoning (lethal and non-lethal) as something that requires bedrest. According to Dubs Analyzer, using them both also doesn't take up that much resources as well.

I like this mod though! makes Food Poisoning a lot more dangerous, and with Communicable Diseases, Diseases+ and a few other things it makes taking care of pawns something to focus on. The only thing I can think of is to slow down the rate of progression on Food Poisoning, as unless they're close to their beds it's pretty much a death sentence. Especially on tribal runs. I've had pawns die and it often became a race against the clock. So a little bit more forgiving progression would make this IMO a lot better, especially how easy it is for pawns to get food poisoning to begin with in the early game.

seems like a good idea, though could be hard to implement given my actual code. Gonna consider anyway, thanks :D
Xurker 13 Nov, 2021 @ 11:16am
yes, what i meant is chance for lethal poisoning depending on level, so like 50% for lethal condition at level 0 up to 1% lethal condition at level 15 with a curve between them or something like that :) that way not only do you have higher food poisoning chance for low level cooks in vanilla, but its also progressively more likely to be lethal the worse the cook is or the dirtier the kitchen is
Argón  [author] 13 Nov, 2021 @ 5:57am
Chace of food poisoning on meals is still the same. What this mod changes is just the possibility for a food poisoning to be lethal or not.
Xurker 13 Nov, 2021 @ 2:17am
is there a way to scale the chance of lethal food poisoning by pawn skill? I think that would be a fun way to implement this mechanic and reward having better cooks
Fenrir009 11 Nov, 2021 @ 4:50pm
Literally who hurt you to make food poisoning in rimworld *worse*? XD
Argón  [author] 6 Nov, 2021 @ 8:00pm
Oh, ok sorry, didn't know about it, will check
Schadenfreude 6 Nov, 2021 @ 7:38pm
@Argón
I'm asking about compatibility with a mod called Best Rest For Food Poisoning.
Argón  [author] 6 Nov, 2021 @ 5:13am
Not sure I understand, there's another mod? Or you're talking about this one?
Schadenfreude 5 Nov, 2021 @ 10:25pm
Would you know if there is a conflict with the Bed Rest For Food Poisoning mod?
Harry_Robinson1 5 Nov, 2021 @ 5:27pm
Food poisoning in Rimworld is ridiculously common but I might try this anyway since I like the configurable food amounts. I would definitely like to see it as a letter though.
Venusgate 5 Nov, 2021 @ 4:26pm
+1 for letter

Sometimes I feel like even social fights should be letters
Argón  [author] 5 Nov, 2021 @ 3:41pm
Not for now, but I can try to make it appear as a letter instead, that'd be useful
Domino 5 Nov, 2021 @ 3:37pm
Is there a special notification apart from the vanilla one when a colonist gets lethal food poisoning from this mod?
natthegreat668 5 Nov, 2021 @ 2:29pm
Great idea! I love increased difficulty :)
Patryk Sage 5 Nov, 2021 @ 2:16pm
But why? Why would you do this?!
