It's fairly easy to just run the game yourself with a single capitalist and a single revolutionary.
The rulebook needs to be brought in line with v1.0, but patch notes can be viewed on the Discord in the meanwhile.
Players have been testing on our Discord, so we've been getting a lot of ideas on how to improve the game.
We have also notice that new players tend to crash capitalism pretty early, focusing on backstabbing each other rather than industrialization!
On turn 0, we are taking a look at speeding things up. Starting on the Action Phase would help, but it would skip the first Policy pick. This may not be a loss, as the narrative could be that players are starting on the Cycle where the Inclosure Acts Policy was passed.
Also, we are looking into "Scenarios" for advanced players where you start with a suite of unique Policies already in play, so you can jump straight into the middle of a complex economy!
May Day balance patch is up; read the patch notes on the Discord.
A video tutorial is the next priority!
(Feedback on the Rule Book would be appreciated)
All we ask for is playtest feedback as balancing is the next major goal. Consider letting us know what you think on the Discord.
Or maybe you should add something about going over 8 consiousness, because of problem listed above, bourgeois players don't give a shit about it
Everything mentioned here has been or is being addressed in some manner.
We'd love to hear all about your playtest on Discord!
Currently nothing happens after Considering all the Policies; you've survived to the endgame!
United Fruit's infinite recursion is a problem we will address! It shouldn't be easy too easy to force a cat's game by going all offshore Panama Papers.
We've tested versions where all Players start Bourgeois before and could revisit.
Life for the working class sure is toilsome, huh?
If anyone has balance suggestions for any of the Characters, we'd welcome the discussion at our Discord!
In previous editions, Bourgeois Characters needed Property to survive, but this was changed recently to include Titles. This means that United Fruit could subsist entirely off of Stocks, if they so choose, but this would leave them incredibly vulnerable to the "Credit Crunch" and "Stock Crash" Crises. It would also give them an income that scales pretty much only with Bureaucrat action economy.
In playtests, we've always let the workers who worked that cycle eat first, and then let the Proletarian player(s) decide if there are more Proles and anything left over in the Wage Surplus.
But for the middle classes, control over those Surpluses are ambiguous. Obviously, if there aren't enough Taxes to go around, the Bourgeoisie would prefer to starve out any Red Bureaucrats. I would rule that the current Chair has the keys to the coffers on any given turn and would decide reproduction order. This may be revisited.
When it comes to Labor Bidding, the Proletarian Player(s) may decide how to break ties for Red Workers, but ties for neutral workers are decided by die roll. This way, the Bourgeoisie can't just ignore any Union.
It and the food thing is in the abbreviated rules I think.
Alright, good to know.
I think my initial understanding of the "Commons" surplus going into the Wages section could be a fun variant to include at the end of the rule book but It does make sense the remaining free peasants would simply enjoy their surplus.
[General thoughts] I finished my initial play-test and did make a lot of mistakes(a few I was able to correct, others I only realized long after) but it's a fun board-game version of the Class War and does provide a nice overview of the subject matter.
The Proletariat's won mostly by way of near-total economic collapse, with only a single Commune(built by using the Catholic Workers "Character" feature on the church and then using a red bureaucrat's turn to use their middle/Active action to build the Commune there.) remaining after debts, ecological ruin, market doubt, and an ongoing bear market slaughtered the last two Bourgeois. Speaking of which, are the Prol's supposed to pay rent on the Commune?
This golden age ends when the acceleration of inclosures becomes irresistible. Even after the Nobles are gone, a Bourgeois Player can still scoop up that land and proletarianize the peasants.
