I mean if you eliminate all challenge from a game are you even playing it anymore, even single player. It's playing itself and you are watching.
heathkun 1 Jul, 2024 @ 4:06am
I agree, play how you want, but yes, it's playing with cheat codes. Agree, and that's okay.
davea  [author] 7 Aug, 2023 @ 6:37pm
Thanks for the discussion, but the one comment about the right way to play is almost a year old. No need to rehash it.
Alfador 7 Aug, 2023 @ 4:45am
Its a fucking singleplayer game. You can play as you like, and others play as they like.

I personally only started playing again because the Devs let us have the modable version do all the annoying unlocks, and its pretty fun to play without knowing that some stuff i´d love to use is stuck behind time-limited rng-influenced trials in my open-world, fly as you like sim.

In short:
Play as you like, dont think bothering others about how you play is right.

Anyone who complains about a mod like this is what I like to call a "nerd". Take it from someone who's better than you, it really doesn't matter how people play Star Traders.
JustAnotherOneUser 8 May, 2023 @ 6:16am
I am surprised how gatekeeping people can be about a singleplayer game with plastic difficulty settings and official mod support.
I am fine with existing of mass and mass reductors, so I skip, but it's a good mod, that might make one's life a lot easier

Meh, in a single player game there is no such thing as cheating. You do you.
davea  [author] 5 Mar, 2023 @ 8:58pm
There are a few ships that don't have a mass reducer. It isn't required in the universe of the game. It only helps to reduce mass a little. In terms of the game and the mod, quite many people like the complexity of having to balance both mass and slots. AFAIK that includes the dev team. But, not everybody likes it. This mod reduces the complexity a little.
Gruet_garbo 5 Mar, 2023 @ 7:09pm
What happens in a ship without Mass Reducers? Do they crash when landing on large planets? Also curious what the devs say about their role in the game, balance-wise.
Rob'sEvilTwin 1 Jan, 2023 @ 4:57pm
Have done some testing with results as below:

If you load "No more mass reducer" after "Max Components" you get all the slots but still have mass limits.

If you load "No more mass reducer" after "Max Components" you don't get extra Large slots but you also have no mass limits.

I have not tested on every single ship :D The text in the Buy screen seems to indicate this should be true for all ships.

IMO terrible mod. It will appeal to the type of gamer who needs the cheat codes to enjoy GTA and such. Makes the game quite a lot easier, by lowering effort and intellect required for success.

Most subscribed mod, I wonder why )
Trese Brothers  [developer] 10 Jun, 2022 @ 10:15am
Hmm "definitely" is suspect but it *might* be ... or its a combo of the two. HW drives have a maximum mass they can move called Design Mass
Trese Brothers  [developer] 10 Jun, 2022 @ 10:13am
It is definitely an issue with Max Components. That mod should consider raising the jump mass limits on Hyperwarp Drives.
davea  [author] 10 Jun, 2022 @ 5:27am
Are you sure this mod is last? It deletes all the mass reducers from all the ships, so I'm not sure how any could be left behind.
ChaosAnarchy727 9 Jun, 2022 @ 1:09pm
Im playing with the 100 level mod, playable xeno ships and max components with this mod at the last on the list love having huge ships with huge crews so i started with that degla megalift and i cant hyperjump out of the starter system without upgrading my hyperdrive from one that can handle 7000 mass to one that handles over 8400 and theres still a mass reducer on the starter ship does that mean its not working?
davea  [author] 24 May, 2022 @ 9:06pm
Are you able to use any mods successfully? Did you select the mod in the mod setup screen?
Messman 24 May, 2022 @ 8:20pm
Is this mod still working? I still see the mass reducers ingame and it won't let me remove it.
Metallicus 5 Feb, 2022 @ 5:51pm
Great idea! Thank you!
sir Evans 7 Dec, 2021 @ 3:02pm
I may actually give this game a go, if I can get rid of this mass optimisation puzzle.
I know why it is there, but I - and many other it seems - truly hated it.

Will be funny if you mod changes my review for this game from negative to positive, lol.
jamesthesecond 1 Dec, 2021 @ 7:15pm
@davea, you got your five star!!! Congrat!
ZWildiris 3 Nov, 2021 @ 7:38am
Hey, I mentioned how asinine the mass reducers were way back at the beginning, and devs defended how "needed" they were. I am glad the devs....err Davea thought to make a mod. <wink>
Jim 16 Oct, 2021 @ 3:46pm
Thank you so much. I am literally redownloading this game because of your mod. I liked it so much but Mass Reducers were a huge part of why I stopped playing. Murdered any fun making actual ship builds.
thatguy1 9 Sep, 2021 @ 12:01pm
Going to give this a pre-emptive thumbs up. I am excited to try it out. Makes it difficult to optimize a ship design when you are filling slots with mass reducers. This will be a huge help.
davea  [author] 8 Sep, 2021 @ 4:32pm
Thanks! Only 40 more positive ratings till I get the coveted five stars! (60 => 100). Tell 40 friends to stop by!
jamesthesecond 8 Sep, 2021 @ 8:53am
davea, sorry I can only give you one thumb up, steam only allows one vote so I give you :steamthumbsup::steamthumbsup::steamthumbsup::steamthumbsup: here in the chat. LOL.

That's what a long-lost Trese Brother would say! Anyways, keep on modding. ST:F is one of my all-time favorites that I revisit every few months and I am baffled about the amount of updates it got. Mods can only add to its awesomeness.
davea  [author] 27 Aug, 2021 @ 11:33am
Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I am definitely not a long-lost Trese Brother nor a member of the dev team.
Itchy.de 27 Aug, 2021 @ 11:28am
And ironically, I am convinced that davea is actually a developer of the game - that comment by Trese Brothers seems like davea forgot to switch accounts ;)
Jack Fury 27 Aug, 2021 @ 6:07am
Acting like children helps neither the players of the developers
Lilo 26 Aug, 2021 @ 6:18pm
The mass reducers make the game real and challenging(if planets have gravity then take off and landing could have an affect), having said that I do like the idea of not having to deal with it and see how that goes.
davea  [author] 26 Aug, 2021 @ 9:55am
Please let's all remain calm. Thanks for the feedback.
Kitty Overlord Lucy 26 Aug, 2021 @ 4:47am
Dear Itsthemarcel

The comment you have written is rude and comes off as you speaking as the voice of the community. Try adding "I feel like" or "in my opinion" because that is what it is.. YOUR opinion. I on the other hand love the game and have gotten immense enjoyment and many an hour from the base game and I know that the overall community is very pleased with the game as a whole. On a second note - really rude way to speak to devs that have kept up with this game for a long time now when most others would have dropped it soon after they got their money out of it .. show some respect. All in all what really kind of completely and uttely sucks is your comment. Your opinion is valid and fine - the way you go about expressing it? Not so much. :dswilsonscared:
itsthemarcel 26 Aug, 2021 @ 12:19am
Dear Davea

The game kind of really completely and utterly sucks without mods and I was expecting something awesome from the promo clips which are nothing like the actual game and was very disappointed when I actually played it. (The ship combat and the ship combat dodge meta is shit).

I saw the notes for mods and got quite excited. Your mods may just make the game awesome enough to get into and try out again.

I see the Trese brothers have commented on this mod, I hope they consider hiring you to make the game what it should be rather than the hot steamy mess it actually is.

davea  [author] 25 Aug, 2021 @ 12:23pm
Please go ahead! There are several mods that modify component stats. You can subscribe to any/all of them and look into their data.sql to see how they work. Please also see the modding wiki (as mentioned in the pinned FAQ) to find the integer values you will need.
The Boomslang 25 Aug, 2021 @ 12:01pm
This mod is awesome, i have a quick request. can i use you mod as a template for a mod i want to make? i want to modify some component stats.
Drago Duval 25 Aug, 2021 @ 11:07am
I did not know how much i needed this mod until i saw it.
Trese Brothers  [developer] 23 Aug, 2021 @ 9:11pm
@naa123 - all components are reduced to very small masses (Small = 50, etc) and all Mass Reducers are cleanly removed from the game, they no longer exist.
naa123 23 Aug, 2021 @ 7:13pm
does it also remove mass for other components? or how do you remove the need to reduce mass to be less than hull max?
davea  [author] 23 Aug, 2021 @ 4:18pm
A lot of players felt the same (but not the dev team). There are already components for fuel efficiency, fuel storage and refueling, so I really didn't see a role for them personally. Some people (including the dev team AFAIK) felt that having these extra constraints made optimizing a build more of a challenge.
[88th] ColPresumptuous 23 Aug, 2021 @ 4:10pm
Never really got why mass reducers were in the game, your ship size changed the number of slots and the number of slots in larger mod categories ie the slot options were a fine representation of the ships mass and what it could take to begin with... but you then had to fill those same slots with mass reducers usually for alot of things... which was illogical.

If anything mass reducers should really be the name of a combined fuel efficiency and dodge module ie they reduce mass there for increase manoeuvrability and fuel requirements for travel.

But yeah this mod feels like a must and it might get me back into playing the game again.
davea  [author] 23 Aug, 2021 @ 3:59pm
Thanks! Please give the mod a thumbs-up so I can get the coveted five star rating!
