Yeah, the problem is that "A Dog Said... Animal Prosthetics 2" trying to blindly patch animal Defs (like ACPPanda, ACPHippopotamus, ACPDirewolf, etc...) which aren't there if (like in my case) you have Odyssey installed.

Something must have broken with the patch in A Dog Said. I see you reported that there, thank you. Not sure what happened with that, I made the patch for them a good while back and it worked then.

Hi I have been getting a massive number of errors from this mod from every animal saying
"Could not resolve cross-reference to Verse.ThingDef named ACPDirewolf (wanter=recipeUsers)"
For every single animal from ACP on 1.6.

Does anyone know what patch or mod is causing this?

Another update because it looks like the issue was half loading issues, half the patches (seriously, it just wasn't loading some animals, but not one folder or the other, just some random ones?).

I'm actually not sure why the patch is throwing THAT many errors, I disabled it in my ADS folder to do some testing, and basically the same code works if I add it to Animal Collab so we'll see what Samuel prefers doing. If they disable their patch I'll just upload mine, or they can look what's going on with it. ^^

Yeah, I got some "Could not resolve cross-reference to Verse.ThingDef named *InsertAnimalHere*" errors and it looks like it's the issue with A Dog Said. Like you said, I understand these things take time, if people even have the time for it. I just wanted to let you know it's definitely a thing. Don't worry about it, I've been playing around it. Thanks for the great work you've already done. It's been a great mod to have in games.

Please not that this update is a pure "this is usable" one, I don't have any swimming textures yet. Hopefully I've split everything between Odyssey and No-Odyssey correctly, so animals that Odyssey added should not appear in their ACP variant. Please let me know if I haven't succeeded (i.e if something is obviously missing or you have two types of tiger or something).

The A Dog Said Patch is on their end nowadays, I don't want to ask them to change anything before I'm completely sure everything is done, so there may be some errors. I'm super sorry about that but worst case is that some animals don't have their bionics for a bit.

I have not yet figured out how to handle the red panda, for example, because if you run Erin's and Vanilla Expanded, you'll have three of them. I recommend Cherry Picker for now.

FYI the update will drop as soon as I can see what of the duplicates make sense to keep (like I know the flamingo will go, but the otter will rebrand as river otter since the Odyssey one is a sea otter) and how to handle the swimming textures since they don't play well with the colour variants (or rather I don't know how to do that yet). I'm sorry for the delay but this is not going to be the easiest update.

A nice option in the future would be an easier way to allow / disable certain animals like the spirit wolf for example.

That aside is the silk spider a collab original or from another mod?

I haven't really done active modding in a long time, so I don't think I ever added the pen animal tag to anything when that was added to the game.

Anecdotally, the animals in this mod mostly fall into one of three categories:
1) Slightly worse than vanilla animals. Usually a bit worse meat production, somewhat narrower temperature range, meaningfully worse gestation periods/litter sizes and a bit less tame.
1b) Large useless animals. Some biomes are objectively easier just because the % of animals on them that are large and produce bearskin quality hides is higher so manual hunting becomes better. Warmer regions have a much higher average revenge chance in this mod though.
2) Catastrophically worse than vanilla animals for breeding, most commonly due to long growth periods. Many things in this mod have <1 meat/day from growth and there are things with bajillion day breeding periods like the dodo.

3a) Special shoutout to the corpse eating goats that are kind of like a hybrid between cows and pigs. Probably the only thing from this mod that I'd take over a vanilla animal besides the
3) Wolves
Spirit wolves being corpse eating thrumbos that can live on -50 degree sea ice is better than any animal in vanilla, maybe even better than mechanoids. You can't take the non-spirit wolves to the southpole on a max cold map but you can take them to the poles on a regular map and unlike spirits, they're easy to get a breeding pair of and mass. Probably the best combat animal in the game between this and vanilla, and they're also essentially carnivorous muffalos (fur producers). Not hard to see why muffalo/thrumbo equivalents that are zoneable and eat the infinite supply of frozen raider corpses are good.

Ok, I know what the problem is, but not how to fix it yet, so hold on for my brain meats to kick in. (TL;DR something changed and the spawning doesn't seem to work with player faction pawns any more. so the moment they're yours, no more silk.)

The lack of breeding is as it should be, none of the insectoids breed. But something definitely seems to be going on with the silk spawning. I'm looking into it!

Something weird is happening with my silkspiders =(
Honestely, i haven't played since 1.2 and i can't recall anything like that. First of all, thay do not reproduse, just don't want to do any sex (but if i make them pregnant through the developer toolkit, thay give birth ner spiders). And secondlly thay do not make any silk. I let them be for a year with no other modifications, and nothing. Funny, but if i change the spawn range to very small, they make silk only during the firs day of my colony =D After, it just stops forever.
How may i fix that?

FYI: Your A Dog Said patch is currently malformed and adds your animals as recipeUsers to every recipe in the game. You can reach out to me on steam or discord if you need details, but the cliff notes are, you need a full conditional for every OR in an xpath.

It's still being maintained but not expanded any more. And like vanilla insectoids, the ants etc will not breed. Looking back adding an infestation event could have been fun for easier access.

@Coconutsales check out CherryPicker. It's more or less a soft requirement in large mod lists. Let's you browse all definitions of all types and disable using a settings menu. Really nice for issues like you're pointing out.

Super niche request, but is there any way to disable this mod's Quails for compatibility with Vanilla Animals Expanded - Royal Animals? ( https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2858079457 )

The quail in that mod has special benefits, but might conflict with the Quails from this mod.

Maybe even an automatic detection for compatibility that overwrites these quails with VAE's Quails?

@cucumpear I think I figured out what's going on.
I bought another 2 black bears, and took one of them as a pack animal in my caravan. I was looking through all my pack animals but couldn't find the sleeping bag I definitely brought, when I noticed the black bear again had his funny backpack on. But again, no "gear" tab. I downloaded Drop All Inventory - Forked mod and when I then clicked on the black bear (still no "Gear" tab) the button to drop the inventory was present and clicking it unloaded a bunch of items from the black bear, and his backpack disappeared.
