Always save a file in a backup folder before editing it. That way you can reverse the process if you need to.

It's always best to make this edit before mining any asteroid. Asteroids that have already been mined will not be changed by the edit as their properties are usually saved and therefore unchangeable.

hello where can i find the sbc file?
Thorn Blackwell  [author] 24 Sep, 2023 @ 8:03am
It is a known issue of the Star System Generator that you will see all asteroids in belts and clusters as all the same elements. If however you didn't use that mod then I have no idea.

not sure if it is this mod but when i spawn in asteroids it is always nickel

The problem is ... how do I edit the file after the game starts automatically, in order to make the asteroid spawns have more ore. I don't know, but I will ask around. I tell you this so you don't have to wait to take advantage of the benefits right now. Originally, the spawns were 1-3 ores and even larger still than they will be using this method, but you now know how to tweek the file any way you want.

So, edit those two lines to what I have below.

<DepositsCountCoefficient>3</DepositsCountCoefficient>
<DepositSizeDenominator>30</DepositSizeDenominator>

Number of ores per asteroid spawn 0 - 3, note that the same ore can be chosen randomly more than once and make the asteroid very full of one ore. The second line makes the ore spots twice as large (because the volume of it is divided by 30 instead of 60).

In order to increase ore frequency and the size of the deposits you have to edit the sandbox.sbc file in your save game folder, and look for the following parameters:

<DepositsCountCoefficient>1</DepositsCountCoefficient>
<DepositSizeDenominator>60</DepositSizeDenominator>

The first line controls the maximum amount of ores found in an asteroid spawn. Note: it is a random number from 0 - 1. Some asteroids have only stone, and some have 1 ore type.
The second lines is the the size Denominator. In other words it starts at a random volume and is the divided by 60. This makes sure the size of the spawn is fairly small.

Okay, my edits make all the ores spawn with about the same probability for each, but there may be other limits built into the game as platinum and uranium are still fairly rare. Asteroid Ice is no longer rare, and sometimes whole asteroids are made of ice though it still isn't a common thing. For some reason this also means the ore detectors won't detect ice in an asteroid, so you will just have to look at the asteroid closely, though the larger spots make it easier to see.

Thank you! I just came back to this game after 7 years and wondered where all the ore went. Can't wait to see you make a mod so there is ore as abundant as it once was!

can some one make this for the planets please or tell me where to find one Im still getting this mod but this is just for asteroids
Dailusional 25 Jun, 2022 @ 2:38am
Does the mod require a you to start a new game?
Sir Stompalot 26 Jan, 2022 @ 1:16am
where are the values located to change the ore deposit number and density on an asteroid? the slider the give us only tells for the amount of asteroids and like you said, all they have is rocks with small iron deposits, i want giant deposits! lol:saradomin:
Thorn Blackwell  [author] 25 Jan, 2022 @ 3:47pm
This is just for Asteroids ... I got tired of finding nothing but stone rocks in space after an update changed the procedural asteroids. I haven't seen them change much since then though I do occasionally see asteroids of solid ice.

howdy, this works on asteroids?

Does this mod work on the moon?

Thorn Blackwell  [author] 20 Aug, 2020 @ 7:24am
I suggest you use the Better Stone Mod with this to give the game more variety and flair. https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406244471

However, is you want ores to be more rare then there used to be a number of stone sifter mods that required you to grind through massive quantities of stone to gather all the elements.

My friends and I have been using the mod for quite a while now and we still haven't found any Platinum or Uranium. Of course we are on the Earthlike planet, which is not supposed to have either platinum or uranium. This mod will not increase the probability of finding ores that are not supposed to be present on a planet.

Damn
Thorn Blackwell  [author] 9 Aug, 2020 @ 7:00pm
In a word ... Yes. Currently however, the rarity of ore deposits is pretty ridiculous. The idea is to make all the ores easier to find, so you can stop searching for hours on end. Currently, you are not likely to find any ore deposits among the asteroids, and you should spend your time reducing stone to rubble, or drop down to a planet to find actual deposits. It is still hard to find rare ores.
High Lord Baron 9 Aug, 2020 @ 12:43pm
So, this mod increases the amount of ore deposits that spawn naturally, right? Would that make it easier to find rare stuff like uranium and cobalt?
