Thanks

Sorry about it being vague, honestly I think I was wanting to hint without giving it away, but it's been so long and I don't have it installed that I can't even remember what it was I trying not to hint too strongly at! Next time I install Arma I'll take a look at the mission and edit it so it's not so vague. Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks for your reply, I found note 4 in the port now so i'm trying to find the start of the second trail to find the identity of the author of the notes. BTW i'm really enjoying this scenario it's just a pity that the comment "hill west of Sorenburg" is a bit vague. Maybe someone who's completed this scenario will see this comment and add some pointers.

Hi! I'm not entirely sure where Note 4 is since it's been so long since I edited this map (plus I don't have arma 3 installed atm). I can't actually remember where it is myself. The only thing I can think of is the hill above the dam where the radio station is, the dam with the settlement on it. Sorry I can't be more help just now

Just in case anyone is still monitoring these comments, I have found all the notes and I'm looking for the place indicated in note 4, hill west of Sorenburg to find the trail to the writer. The only hill to the west is where the Tiberius HQ is but there's nothing left to find.

Yeah, sorry about that! One of the problems with making lots of missions is the fact I can't remember where everything is, and then I go and move on to playing other games which doesn't help either
Kee 7 Dec, 2021 @ 7:45am
ok. I'll retry.:steamhappy:
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 7 Dec, 2021 @ 7:31am
I'm honestly not sure, it's been ages, but it sounds like you've found everything. At Hafen... I can't remember honestly, but there might be something around there. Sorry I can't be more help, it's just been so long since I tested it.
Kee 6 Dec, 2021 @ 8:33pm
Thx HyphenTorpedo.
But I can't find any more intel.
In addition to the basic locations marked on the map, I collect intel from various places such as airfields and plane crash sites.
I've also been to the scavenger outpost in Hafen, but there's only a bloody skull and no intel anywhere.
Am I missing something?
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 6 Dec, 2021 @ 2:47am
Yeah, they should spawn, I remember finding anti-rad pills. Geiger counters and rad suits might be spawning too, but they're rare
Kee 5 Dec, 2021 @ 6:43pm
Are there any items that provide full radiation protection?
Or are there any anti rad pills?
Even if I search the trading settlement, I can't find anti-rad pills.

Thanks for playing through it! I struggle with figuring out how to actually "end" a mission, at which point I just leave it up to the player to imagine how their character would leave the island themselves, and leave the mission open-ended.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try and do that more for my future missions! Most of my writing is done by the seat of my pants, so everything's done as it comes to mind, which includes plot-lines and character details. It can allow for an emotional or more interesting story, but it comes across wonky in a mission style like in Arma 3.
JBS1949 14 Jan, 2021 @ 3:51pm
I finished it, although there doesn't appear to actually be a finish.

What do you do with all the Intel you've collected. Doesn't seem to be any way to communicate it back to whoever sent you there to gather it. Suicide missions are one thing, but pointless suicide missions?

One way to handle generating the story lines is to start with the end state and step backwards to the beginning.

Start with point 'Z' where the story ends. From there step back to point 'Y' and leave the note that directs attention to point 'Z' ... then back to point 'X' with directions to point 'Y' - and so on all the way back to point 'A' if you need to.

When I was in the Army we called it reverse planning. What is the end state mission objective? What happens just before that? Before that and before that?

It's a timetable in reverse that you then brief forward. We're going to do this, then we're going to do this, which lets us do the other until we get to Mission Complete .

@JBS1949 Hey, thanks for checking out my mission!

It's been a while since I messed around on Arma 3, I can't really remember what I added, but there's definitely a few issues with it. When I'm on it next I'll check it out and see what's up, thanks for pointing those out!

I agree, some of the storylines are light on the endings, they're really just things to follow and do. though, on some of my other missions, you might find that some do lead somewhere. I won't spoil anything ;)

Sometimes the AI on this map is a little funky, especially in cars, and I've seen that happen myself. Some of the storylines are also kind of weird and I found it tricky to figure out how to write to where the next one was, especially since it's such a big map.

The UGVs gave me massive trouble too. This map is basically like going from normal to very hard compared to my other maps just with the UGVs in it.

Thanks again for the feedback, it's much appreciated, and I'm glad you're enjoying it nonetheless!

Part 1:
I've been enjoying this. It's not too difficult for an old man with slow reflexes.

Haven't encountered the UAVs yet, but the UGVs are driving me nuts. Not that hard to hide from them, but I watch them & figure out their patrol patterns to set up a mine ambush but then they wander off somewhere else and don't come back. I've wasted the mine.

I've also encountered a number of Ravage style truck mounted raiders that apparently spawned without a trigger. You can walk right up to them and get in the trucks & they don't do anything. A couple seem to be stuck inside where the whatsit got loose if you want to check it out.

I'll call it the "whatsit that got loose" to avoid spoilers
JBS1949 19 Dec, 2020 @ 9:32am
Part 2:
I like the story lines, but the two I've managed to follow to the end had kind of lame endings ..."We found a boat & got away, good luck!"

A couple of the others are kind of vague & I'm having trouble figuring out where they lead to next.

I have encountered the triplets & one set of quadruplets. They don't interact, but I suspect they have something to do with the UGVs (and probably the UAVs) & maybe with the whatsit that got loose. They do interact with the zombies. I watched a group of them got chomped by a horde of zombies.

I've been enjoying it. It's a good scenario.

Ah, thanks. I'll check it out at some point, not sure what's going on though.
ROBAX 25 Jul, 2020 @ 8:43pm
Yes, zombies spawned in the normal manner around structures. I played for a few hours before deciding something isn't working. Don't worry about it now though. I'm going to try the revised Altis scenario. It looks like it could be good.
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 25 Jul, 2020 @ 5:11am
Now that's weird. It's a big map, maybe they just weren't around (drones spawn more often around large clusters of buildings). Did you see any zombies?
ROBAX 25 Jul, 2020 @ 4:17am
Hi Hyphen
Just spent the evening on it, but I think it's dead now. Did not come across any drones, or any enemy AI. Nothing was going on.
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 25 Jul, 2020 @ 2:14am
That sounds cool. Send me a link to your YT channel whenever, I'd like to check your stuff out
ROBAX 25 Jul, 2020 @ 1:49am
Thanks Hyphen, I'l start it up again in the next hour and will be on for a few hours. I like to try and get a full series of videos for a good mission and then I can post them on my Youtube.
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 24 Jul, 2020 @ 5:50am
Btw, I checked out your stream. I'll remove that music on the dam, I couldn't figure out how to stop it looping all the time. It's an experiment, but it didn't really work out
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 24 Jul, 2020 @ 5:37am
Oh cool, you streamed one of my missions? That's awesome! I'll check it out, and thanks for the feedback.
ROBAX 24 Jul, 2020 @ 5:18am
ok cool. I'll stop it for now. Other than those triplets I've not come across any AI enemies. Only the friendlies at the first base. I've seen one drone. I've gone as far as the valley and have stopped at the airfield. It's the last video on my twitch /robaxx if you want to check anything.
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 24 Jul, 2020 @ 4:59am
That sounds like an issue with Vandeanson's Apocalypse. I might not have updated this one to the most recent version. I'll sort it soon. Thanks!
ROBAX 24 Jul, 2020 @ 4:52am
Hi Hyphen
Just trying this one out. What's the point of the unarmed trios I keep bumping into. They don't seem to have any function?
HyphenTorpedo  [author] 16 May, 2020 @ 7:59am
I'd recommend turning down the AI difficulty. Drones are always going to outperform you anyway, and, as the mission says, there are UAVs in the air that can spot you and report your position to the UGVs. Stick to the woods, keep low in towns and if you hear a car engine duck and hide.

Arma's a tough game by its nature, so the drones are already going to be hard. Plus, it's part of the narrative that they're there. Adaptation is key, also not drawing attention to yourself. I'll tone down the loot though, I had a hunch that'd be too high.

Thanks for the feedback!
Ragnar LootBlock 16 May, 2020 @ 7:52am
Ok thank you anyways, i thought it might not be a problem to switch over the mission to the other map since they are the same basically. I played now for some time and must say the loot spawn chance from VA is to high i saw you cranked it up to 40, i turned it back to 10. Since i was fully geared up after looting 2 buildings.. also performance wise i would turn it down.
Then the UGVs and UAVs drones... are just terrible, i started this mission like 10 times because in the beginning they came around and shot everything to ash in that one town, cars, zombies, people.. just empty then and after 15 min looting i got a head shot from one of the "Drones" (tank) in my face through a window i was passing, the tank was like 1 km away..

Summer version is a no, I've put a lot of time into this map to do a new one in summer. Been working on this on and off since early 2017 so no, sorry. There's no infection system either, just regular zombies.

Thanks for the feedback though!
Ragnar LootBlock 15 May, 2020 @ 9:05pm
Sry to bother you again with some feedback. I just enjoy these kind of missions you make, i just have one request because i couldn't really enjoy the map Napf at all, never but would love to with your mission.
Anyways I just really dislike the winter variation of this map, because most leaf trees have way to white leafs in winter... Leaf tress have no leafs in winter!! It's a big game breaker for me and just wanted ask if you could do a summer version of this mission, PLEASE! ^^
Ragnar LootBlock 15 May, 2020 @ 7:44pm
hey bro i like you missions but the description could be better.. what exactly is in your mission, like if you use the infection system from VA. Also i have a question, is this a winter map only? Is it possible to play it on the regular Napf map, summer thing?
