Looks realy nice! thanks for this.
It would be nice to have some ditches next to the lines, but I guess DRS doesn't have that option.
In the upcoming 'Limburg' route, there will be so much opportunity for that and shunting when such features are added. It's intentionally designed for it and to be updated over time as DRS develops further. Personally I hope (1) signals with limited arms (2) ground signals for shunting (3) coupling/de-coupling. The upcoming train editor will be good for rolling stock and freight car content.
As i mentioned i prefer freight over passenger and a combination of shunting moves (yard work) and longer freight runs (mainline / branch line), hopefully one day we will get more freight wagons and possibly the option to couple / uncouple wagons.
I did have "trainz: a new era" installed on my pc but removed as it never ran smoothly no matter how i tweaked the options, but this game runs perfectly right from the start and its my era as i was born in the 1960's.
The release will coincide with the new beta of DRS (end of April?), but I may share a 'work-in-progress' earlier. Currently the tracks & terrain are done, as is most of basic scenery. To come now is the detail scenery & setup of timetables / freight jobs.
It's a lot of work because this map is large in scope, 6 lines with large yards and sidings at most stations (=more freight moves). I also researched the situation in 1965 and find out where now broken up tracks were located.
While I am not a rivet counter, I have tried to get towns, hamlets, crossing and yards placed pretty accurately. As a result, I find this new map/route makes a lot sense how the landscape (river valleys) relates to location of towns and the railways.
You'll also get several large yards to go with the freight traffic. I'm hoping that Lapio will be able to implement the 'limit signal arms to 1x left/1x right diversion' soon so the signals don't go out of control.
The landscape and track elevation are from actual height maps, so cuttings, embankments and all routing will feel like they belong there. The lowest track is about 40 meter above sealevel, the heighest about 165m... all in an area of about 25km x 25km
By the way, my next route will run afternoon-evening, probably something like 3pm-12pm.
On the sum of it though, I thought this network ticked a lot of 'gameplay' boxes:
First, I wanted a busy hub, so Leeuwarden seemed perfect with 4 lines terminating - yet it's a small town and I could model a good part its track layout (nearly all stations are 1:1)
Additionally, the branch lines would result in a decent variety of 'game' lengths and are serviced by dmu's till today. And in 1965 those branch lines still had regular freight services.
I did try to locate an English station and resources...but didn't get far quick enough.
- It runs through an area with some low hills, and features cuttings
- 2 stations will be added and especially 'Meppel' is pretty large
- Just before Meppel it will also join another (busier) mainline.
By the way, due to the traffic heading out at Leeuwarden at the end, it's practically impossible to be on time there.
Signal passed at danger - 2 times
Max. comfortable acceleraion exceed - 10 times
Passenger comfort exceeded - 6 times
Cumulative minutes late - 7
*cough cough*
:D
Energy use - 79.7%
Leeuwarden was really busy, a forest of signals, I like it.
Thank you for adding that to the route, enjoyed it much!
Bonbon - This time I've squeezed a 37 shift in on the line Leeuwarden-Stavoren. Especially the return leg starting at 10:28 could tick your boxes again :) On that one, I personally love how busy Leeuwarden Station is on entry.
Yes, the runs with the 37 feature about the least stops and the least scenery :-) You could try a run Leeuwarden - Stavoren for more stops. I've also just given that line a scenery update.
As for the scenery, yes it's pretty sparse in reality, and the scenery is very much a work in progress and I hope we'll get some more feature in DRS so we can put more in. There's also 120km of network to cover, but this will improve with every update.
Nice long stretchs of rail, enjoyed the ride, even though I normally like routes with more stops (passenger trains).
I noticed that on the long streches of rail, there is not much going on left and right from the tracks, but I assume that this is the way to be on a railway up north in frisia/netherland.
I´ll continue to drive some more on your map, thank you for the effort making this and keep on going :)
Like and fav from me. Recommended
