For aesthetics purposes I changed some rows of blocks from 1x1s to the new 2x1s and 2x2s. All of them are above the surface. The boat was doing 195+ knots with the old blocks and after the change to the new blocks only does 180. There's definitely something different with the drag profile of the new blocks that doesn't make sense. I was expecting they would be more aerodynamic due to their slope but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Recently I decided to review some older creations and wondered what would have if I added another combustion chamber in line to increase the pressure. The turbine description seems to imply it converts pressure to torque... and low and behold it worked. I was able to get more speed (went from 67 knots to 180 knots). I tried adding a third but it didn't do anything as it may have reached the limit on output for the water jet.
So the solution: try adding another combustion chamber immediately after the first to increase the pressure.
