it's the rpg mod that causes the lag spikes when picking up exp and recipes.

Thank you for sharing @panzersnapdragon!

Checking back in to confirm after around 20 hours playing FU in its most recent update, having unsubscribed from this mod, at least on my machine there's no longer any lag on picking up any items. It seems like the way they reworked everything to use their new research system instead of unlocking recipes by looting items, it completely gets rid of the issue. Obviously any other mod that still unlocks recipes by looting items will contribute to the possibility of lagging when picking stuff up, so other mod others may consider a solution similar to this mods' if their mod adds a whole lot of new recipes.

FU's research system is implemented now, so HOPEFULLY none of this is an issue anymore. Gonna unsubscribe from this and start a fresh FU playthrough to try it out, if I don't report back assume the issues with lag from picking up items are resolved at least on my machine. Otherwise I'll be back to complain!

No need to apologize @Sparrows, I added that after replying to you to make it clearer for future readers. I should have done that months ago so my apologies to you friend.

Okay! Understandable. Sorry, I somehow missed [unmaintained] in title... And your theories were interesting to read, so no problem. Hope chucklefish (doubt) or FU authors will find a solution about those "offenders". Take a good care

Hi @Sparrows, unfortunately I'm not maintaining this any more and from the look of it FU itself doesn't seem to have come up with a solution either. I believe this to be a lost cause really, my best guess as developer is that the 'hangup' is caused by the fact that recipe unlocking was never meant to be used as massively as FU does and so the developers of the game never had a reason to optimize the underlying code. For all we know it might be extremely messy code that goes on a loop compiling and executing scripts for every recipe to unlock, even if you already have it. Maybe the data this relies on is ordered differently for everyone, like a random list, depending on the save file? Anyway, I'm just rambling now. I'm very sorry but I'm not going to expand this further because it would just bload the crafting menu.
Sparrows 15 Sep, 2020 @ 12:29pm
Can you add Chromatic Dirt's recipe paper? It is "offender" for me, and digging it real pain in mass...

You're welcome @panzer. I'm glad to hear people still find it useful even if I don't play with Starbound any more.
@gMalmNeDs I'm sorry to hear that. I've only tested it against what I had installed at the time. It was more intended as a little help for the developers of FU than anything else and I'm not planning to go back to it.

Also @nonsonogiucas thanks for this mod, it really does help a lot. It's so weird, like Sayter was explaining, the "offenders" really are totally different for different people. I built a new computer recently, and on my old one cryo extract and titanium bars were the biggest, causing at least a second of hang about half the time when I looted them, but they cause only a really short hiccup on my new machine, but lunari causes a longer one, which it didn't at all on my old machine. Thanks for making and sharing this mod, it really is a sanity-saver.

@gMaImNeDs Modular Mech Improvements, if that's what you're talking about, is listed on the 100% incompatible section of Frackin Universe's incompatible list, in the red fonts. That's likely the cause of your crashes, not this mod. I'm assuming you're also running Frackin Universe, right? That's a prerequisite for this mod.
gMaImNeDs 3 Feb, 2020 @ 1:43am
Seems to be causing me crashes related to Modular Mech, as taking this off fixed the problem, and adding it back reintroduced it.

Can you make a crafting station for that? I don't like mess the C menu xP
It's just a idea
nonsonogiucas  [author] 7 Sep, 2019 @ 7:57am
Added:

Lunari crystals
Honed lunari
Prisilite ore
Cryonic extract
Static cell

It really does depend on the user. Case in point: some of the FU bars only unlock a few recipes, while some unlock a ton. Yet for *some* users the ones that unlock 3 or 4 lag them more than the ones that unlock 30. Another user will report the opposite, and still another user will report no slowdown at all. It's *super* annoying.
nonsonogiucas  [author] 5 Sep, 2019 @ 2:34am
Hi @Sayter, I don't know enough about Starbound modding or FU to know for sure but I had the impression the lag was correlated with recipes involving mech parts more than the total number of recipes per se.
Then again maybe I'm just seeing a correlation there because of the way the mech parts crafting station also lags a lot in my game.
nonsonogiucas  [author] 5 Sep, 2019 @ 2:29am
Hi @pinaatti, you're right, quite a few items escaped my initial list. I just added to it while playing on my own and those are just the ones I happened to use more often.

I will add lunari, prisms and a few others in the near future. Note however that adding "everything" would not be a good idea as that would just bloat the "C" menu into oblivion and I'm not planning to add a specific crafting station for this either as it would be a little bit of a waste because of the "temporary nature" of the project.
Sayter 3 Sep, 2019 @ 9:14pm
The "offenders" are completely random, actually. Not every user is affected the same way, which is way diagnosing it is such a pain. The main issue is the game checks every unlock *every* time you pick up the ore , even if you already unlocked everything. This is a nice little idea, and probably a handy interim fix until the Research system gets serious attention.
Skulliosis 31 Aug, 2019 @ 11:15am
while i'm at it, prism shards are probably the worst offenders
Skulliosis 29 Aug, 2019 @ 4:13pm
oh, and cryonic extract too + static cell (i think)
Skulliosis 29 Aug, 2019 @ 12:43pm
good stuff, but missing lunari and honed lunari crystals (i might be misremembering honed lunari)
