Hi Patterson... there "sort of" is. It was last updated in 2021 but it's newer...

I believe it may be the Fluid Winch that is active when the crane is on. It dynamically changes the length of the hose attached to the.fuel boom. It prevents the hose from restricting the crane movement. The winch is always on while the crane is on.

Can you please make a mark II with monitors and cameras?

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

Hi Matt, in theory it will add more torque to the engines instead of RPS. Doing so would allow you to pull a heavier load (i.e. possibly operate as a tug for a larger ship). At higher gears for RPS you sacrifice power for speed. The gear option is available but I don't expect it to be used very much.

What is the purpose of the Implement Drive Gears Level 1 & 2 buttons for? It seems to almost unclutch the engine and speed drops to 8kts or less

wow how did you do such art using only a keyboard at your advantage and only such none art things on your keyboard at your disposal.

I didn't expect such a great detail.
well done!

Can you provide more detail as to "SLOWING DOWN"? For any electric engine it will start to slow down as the batteries start to lose voltage/power. It's been a while since I've revisited the ORCA design and there are some better ways I can implement the power grid (ex. have isolated batteries for the electric engines). I may eventually get back to her but I've got some other projects on the go. She was a fun experiment to see how many different features I could pack in to a small boat.

WHY IS IT SLOWING DOWN?

looks big in the pic but small in game

ok thanks! good to know I'm not doing something wrong, I really hope they rebalance this later because your ship is one of the most versatile around
ElfBossHogg  [author] 5 Jan, 2019 @ 7:13pm
Thanks for your comment, Hexagoner. In regard to fuel, unfortunately yes. Its normal and the nature of the beast right now particulary for a Diesel Electric setup. With the current version of Stormworks the Electric Engines burn through batteries too fast and you need to run the Diesel Engines hard in order to balance the electricity burn, hence the fuel burn. You can try playing with the Max Throttle and Generator Clutch Settings back in Engineering to try out your own scheme for power production. It may take longer to charge a battery array but you could improve fuel efficiency.

first of all, this is an amazing ship, I love the detail! I just have one doubt... is it normal that it consumes fuel really fast when I'm using the central electric drive and the SB and port engines on for electric generator? I consumed about a third of both tanks on a short trip

Thanks for the comment, duttyfly1,

I just tested the craft and all the drives are working. You need to make sure you click the "Power to Central Engine" button just forward of the ceiling based throttle in order to send power to the Central Drive Motors. The Drive Motors (Maneuvering and Central) are both Electric and have buttons just forward of their throttle controls to turn on the relays which send power to them. The Diesel Engines (Port and SB) are used to power Electric Generators only. The Diesels don't provide any mechanical power to the propellers.

My recomendation: use only the Central to get from A to B and then switch over to Maneuvering when you get there. I typically set the throttle for Maneuvering to 25% and Central to 75%. At 75% you should see your electrial usage vs generation is balanced with Max Setting engage. I move from location to location with Central. On arrival I turn off Central and then turn on Maneuvering.

Hey, love the ship, but the central engines don't seem to be working for me? I'm new to the game so maybe it's that the animations don't show on those... But pretty sure that's not the case. Might I be doing something wrong? I did try turning the MAX thruttle on...

Thanks for the comment, franzi.davis

The optimal settings right now are to run Diesel Engines at Max Power Settings and sprint with only the Central Drive set at 80%. That setup balances the Generators Charge and Battery Array Discharge. The limiting factor then becomes the fuel.

Running both Drive Engines simultaneously doesn't give you a heck of a lot of extra speed. I run Central for speed and the Main Drives for maneouvering. I can literally drift turn when I have both drives running. I typically use the Central at 80% to get to where I want to go. When I arrive I kick over to Main and turn off Central. Main Drive is great for parking. When not moving I power down both Electric Motors and run the Diesels on Idle to recharge the batteries while conserving fuel.

At this point WIP is just about done. I'll be tweaking the gearing and power settings shortly for optimal power and hope to be able to put together a write up shortly.

The battery drains qiuckly even with the generators on, i dont know if this is because im doing it wrong or if the WIP part is making this happen.
