Ice is pretty ;)

Need a mod that removes ice period not the other crap. Mod is worthless as is.

After a long hiatus I've published one more small mod:

I just tried this mod with the latest version of Steam and Civ5, and is not working --at least the "Passable Ice" part.
xxx78 29 jan 2020 om 13:20
Great mod, does it work well with latest update?
elotar  [auteur] 9 jul 2019 om 21:35
New version uploaded. Move cost raised, damage lowered.
zArkham4269 30 jun 2019 om 7:57
Also, maybe there should be some limit to ice (if possible) say you can cross one hex, but the more consecutive hexes will destroy you. That would allow passage of those annoying on hex ice flows that block travel but would keep the AI from traversing the top/bottom of the world via ice.
zArkham4269 30 jun 2019 om 7:53
I think that would be best. I felt that the speed was off given that going through ice is dangerous and slow. . I will say this mod fixes a problem I'd forgotten about: archeology sites on islands surrounded by ice.
elotar  [auteur] 29 jun 2019 om 23:24
@zArkham I'm thinking about lowering the damage and rising move cost for the ice in the next version as it seems to be most bothering part.
zArkham4269 29 jun 2019 om 9:20
The only problem I see with this mod is it might be better if you incorporated a mod similar to one used in CIV: BE which would warn you of when a unit was getting close to dying of Miasma. Given the AI doesn't seem to realize it, I've seen scouts and ships die off or be way wounded by moving in ice while automated exploring.
lefuet 27 jun 2019 om 4:05
my solution to ice was similar

ice passable
cost 50 mp (moving into ice ends turn)
submarine ignore terrain cost

this simulates the possibility to get frozen in winter and drift with the ice, continue in summer

I've published kind of essential, imo, mod, which fixes the difficulty problems:

I've published my first big mod (kind of). It should be of interest for anybody how likes the basic game, but is annoyed by some stupid design decisions:

@nriblett, as I understand most of such decision making for AI is hardcoded (like the way he embarks for no reason near enemy units), so unfortunately no way to easily fix that.
WillieHearsYa 15 dec 2018 om 13:34
@elotar - This is a great mod! Giving an option past ice and the other move values have been great, plus the AI has had no issue using these features as well. Was curious, would it be possible to encourage units (such as those who are auto-exploring) to be able to avoid ending on ice if possible? My ships seem to readilly suicide themselves on ice (even at just 5 damage a pop) even when there is a ton of other stuff to explore. Just trying to give feedback, thanks again for the great mod!
banana? 4 dec 2018 om 18:00
oh yeah mkes sense
elotar  [auteur] 28 nov 2018 om 7:25
@Wolf - it's extremely easy. In workshop discussions there is link to Kael's guide - basic reading for any modder, then there is civfanatics forum where most of the additional questions you may have were already discussed, then you can subscribe to other mods and see their code.
B O C C H I 28 nov 2018 om 7:11
@elotar - I'll go try it just to see if it does
Dramatic_Wolf 28 nov 2018 om 6:22
I love the idea of applying changes to the terrain itself to change gameplay. Ive been playing around with the mod tools myself to try and make my own Civ but mainly editing Civ trait stats totest new personalities. I'd love to know how you learned the codes to give the various terrains their new properties
elotar  [auteur] 28 nov 2018 om 5:44
@Kiss - I really don't know, to be safe you should assume that it does.
elotar  [auteur] 28 nov 2018 om 5:43
@Carrot - 5/100. I was thinking about more, but AI seems to ignore the idea, that it's a dangerous plots, ends their turn their regularly, so heavy damage will be crippling. But I will test some more...
B O C C H I 28 nov 2018 om 2:58
Does this somehow affect savegames?
Captain Carrot 27 nov 2018 om 13:08
5 damage in the G&K scale, so 5/100 - 1/20 of total hp, or 5/10 - 1/2? Bc with 1/2 damage on mountains for Carthage, it's imo reasonable for ice to do the same damage, or at least closer to it.
elotar  [auteur] 26 nov 2018 om 20:23
@Jackmino, play a little more on different maps and you'll be enlightened ;)
Jackmino 26 nov 2018 om 14:03
The sea I normally encounter is quite open, and useless until you get Astronomy. I never have to go through ice
elotar  [auteur] 25 nov 2018 om 20:13
@Jackmino - why you are using sea in early eras? To explore the world, fight naval battles and profit from internal and external trade routes.
Jackmino 25 nov 2018 om 13:06
You need to pass through ice in early eras? For what?
elotar  [auteur] 25 nov 2018 om 1:03
@BOT, there is such a mod somewhere in workshop, but it does not works so well - removal of ice is not executed correctly by graphical engine.

Also you really need to pass ice in early eras, when icebrakers will be available it'll be already not relevant.
banana? 24 nov 2018 om 22:59
Why not to make mod with icea-breaker ships
higbort 24 nov 2018 om 13:30
@elotar epic
Jackmino 24 nov 2018 om 11:55
I'm afraid this is already stock to the game. Its called a submarine
higbort 24 nov 2018 om 9:16
isnt ice supposed to be there only on the edge of the map or in useless areas?
elotar  [auteur] 24 nov 2018 om 3:16
New version uploaded. There is link for direct download of an old one.
elotar  [auteur] 24 nov 2018 om 2:21
There will be an update in some time - 6 move jungles are too cruel for Aztec Jaguar.
JAB Creations 23 nov 2018 om 19:51
I always hated ice in Civ V. Where the heck are the ice-breakers in example? The reduction of movement points and damange on landing seem a very fair compromise. Besides, on real world scale it's not as if the ice blocks 100% of all water-ways unless you go to some fairly extreme locations.

Занятный модик ...

Проверю - отпишусь, если не забуду.

COOL

Nuclear subs can go under it!
Μολοχ 23 nov 2018 om 4:15
I thought it was already passable, once you get to ironclads?
elotar  [auteur] 23 nov 2018 om 1:22

elotar  [auteur] 22 nov 2018 om 1:38
@Jambatti, for embarked units too.
Elfie 21 nov 2018 om 16:44
Sounds cool. Is Ice passable to ships only or for units too?
