Oh, the Way Better Romance load order was added in the last update, but if you had it before it wouldn't have auto sorted yet ^^
Acid 22 Aug @ 6:50am
also unrelated to this mod but reminded of it by your response, one of my colonists kept trying to flirt with people by calling them "a beautiful house". they weren't even an architect or very significantly good builder, that's just how they did it i guess LOL
Acid 22 Aug @ 6:48am
oh @cucumpear i DID figure it out. should've specified, my bad.
it should be loaded under and after Way Better Romance and related mods, as well as any other mods that affect beauty/relationships.
cucumpear  [author] 21 Aug @ 7:31pm
I'd like to think real people wouldn't run around constantly comparing each other to a hamster, only to flip flop and woo the same person by calling them a radiant lake or something...
If you figure out what was messing with it, please let me know, so I can add it to the load order info.
Acid 21 Aug @ 4:43pm
moved this later in my load order to overcome an incompatibility with another mod, and immediately things started making so much more sense again. without it, and with a dialogue mod making it more evident, so many of my crew were previously just ridiculously mean to each other. now more of them are sharing beds LOL
cucumpear  [author] 18 Aug @ 11:16am
hank you for letting me know. Even with everything fixed, there will always be people who then just don't want to use a mod, so yeah, easier to handle this way. I guess I need to restructure stone tweaks too some time.
Imranfish 18 Aug @ 11:03am
Just letting you know, the incompatibilies that XML extensions had with some other frameworks have been fixed in 1.6. But making it an optional dependency is still good practice, many other mods do it as well.
cucumpear  [author] 18 Aug @ 9:55am
And as always, please do report any issues, my cats tried to absorb my brain cell earlier and I had to fight to use it for a bit longer.
cucumpear  [author] 18 Aug @ 9:54am
OK, the update should be live as soon as steam releases it from analysis purgatory. XML Extensions is now OPTIONAL, if you have it active, the options are available, if not, the mod functions like it did until 1.5, with set numbers.
I have also added the load after tag, so hopefully no more Way Better Romance shenanigans.
cucumpear  [author] 17 Aug @ 10:53pm
That's good to know, I must have automatically loaded it after, so I never noticed! Will include that in the next update.
CurlyyFryz 17 Aug @ 7:44pm
Hi, thanks for this mod! I'd like to suggest adding a "load after Way Better Romance" requirement, as it seems this has a soft incompatibility otherwise. WBW overrides your set values with Ugly -15 / Staggeringly Ugly -30 / Disfigured -3, which causes a disproportionate mood offset for beauty because that mod doesn't change the opinion offset for pretty or beautiful. LDMOTR seems to work as intended though as long as it is loaded after Way Better Romance!
zeus57007 12 Aug @ 7:39am
nice, can't wait
cucumpear  [author] 3 Aug @ 9:32am
Never heard about that before but I also don't play with HAR so I wouldn't know. I guess I can look into it, it shouldn't be impossibly hard for this mod.
zeus57007 2 Aug @ 5:21pm
Apparently, xml extensions wrecks house on HAR stuff, so... not usin' it. Can ye please make the requirement a recommendation instead?
cucumpear  [author] 2 Aug @ 1:15am
It's required now, it's a very common library type mod now and shouldn't conflict with anything.
zeus57007 1 Aug @ 9:24am
is XML extensions absolutely REQUIRED for 1.6, or is it just a nice mod interaction, like "Hey, this supports this mod, but ye don't need it"?
HighFlyer96 25 Jul @ 9:19am
Yeah, I don't know either what vanilla thinks. "Hey, we're just stranded in this wilderness and fight for our survival. You're a good hunter/farmer/constructor/doctor, but hey, I don't like your face so I start punching you for no reason"

Just no Tynan
TotalCamarchy 24 Jul @ 3:19pm
i always thought it was stupid and silly how badly being ugly affects a pawn. idk maybe i'm just "kind" irl lol.
PetLoverSpy 16 Jul @ 3:33am
THANK you! I get it having AN effect, especially for romance, but the effects being so extreme that they can hardly even make friends is just sad. These are people trying to survive, not running a beauty contest!
cucumpear  [author] 15 Jul @ 10:39pm
Right, I probably should change the description. Thanks for the reminder!
ephemeraltoast 15 Jul @ 11:20am
Since it's not mentioned in the description, this mod now includes sliders so you can set your own values in the mod options.
HighFlyer96 5 Mar @ 9:46am
+1 on the sliders for each trait.
SplashOfBlue 17 Feb @ 11:20am
+1 on the below comment - unsure how hard it is, but would be awesome to have slider options so we can tweak the changes
Mr Gnome 15 Jun, 2024 @ 7:43pm
Take your time, but is it possible to have a setting where we can use our own settings? Because it would be nice to still have the higher opinion for the more beautiful pawns.
BingoBungus 15 Jun, 2024 @ 1:55am
Cucumpear you got a point and I'm here for it.
HIM 19 Apr, 2024 @ 2:35am
yes! YES!
cucumpear  [author] 16 Apr, 2024 @ 2:52am
Yeah, I'm planning to update. I suspect it works as it is now, but I haven't had the capacity to test it.
Ananzi 15 Apr, 2024 @ 10:58am
Will there be a 1.5 update? please PLEASE? i love this mod too much to let it go.
cucumpear  [author] 25 Jul, 2023 @ 2:32am
I had to quickly look into the code because I didn't actually know/remember how that works.
Short answer yes.

Long answer: It doesn't directly affect genes, but genes and traits are combined to the pawn's beauty stat. It doesn't matter if the pawn is genetically (un)attractive and/or has any of the pretty spectrum traits. How other pawns react to them is just due to the final score. There's no dynamic scaling so +6 and -6 are the most opinion offset you will get.
cant aim 24 Jul, 2023 @ 7:08pm
Does this affect the unattractive genes
Fii 23 Aug, 2022 @ 5:50am
I wonder if it would be possible to scale this by colony wealth? (ie. the same thing that scales the expectations)

In a poor colony, no one cares how you look, if you can farm or fight off wild bears, you're good.

If everyone is living the high life, the maybe looks start to matter more.
ent-2-ene 17 Aug, 2022 @ 9:50am
What you guys can do to customise the amounts, is that you can go in the mod's folder, go to Defs, then ThoughtDefs, where you can find an .xml file. There you can tweak the amount you want.
CaptainKampfkeks 2 Jun, 2022 @ 8:01am
I also found the debuffs to be rather... steep. I'd like to join the line and ask about progress for costumisation. Interest in this mod is definitely there. :winter2019happysnowman:
Anthroperator 4 Mar, 2022 @ 10:11am
This mod should be called "any port in a storm"
Tutsi Noncombatant 12 Feb, 2022 @ 9:51am
i think a scale for this would be cool if your still updating this.
newcaljustin 22 Oct, 2021 @ 12:28pm
Hi! I wrote to you a couple weeks ago about a possible change to your mod. Has there been any progress made?
gnatters 11 Sep, 2021 @ 7:23pm
I really like the idea of this, but I would also like the ability to scale them myself. I don't mind the numbers being kind of big, but I don't want them to be so huge that they're overwhelming. -20 to +20, worst to best. I'm subbing, but not using it just yet; if there comes about a way to alter the buffs/penalties (halving them would be a good idea, as someone below me said), I'll use it forever!
cucumpear  [author] 11 Sep, 2021 @ 3:57pm
Maybe I can finally figure out how mod settings work. If I can I'll do it that way.
newcaljustin 11 Sep, 2021 @ 2:03pm
Hi! Big fan of your mod! -40 for staggeringly ugly is just say too low an opinion debuff. However I found myself missing some of the social volatility from the base game. I know when asked previously about a sliding scale you said you didn't have the time to implement it. But I was wondering if you could instead make a variant mod that instead halves the opinion values from the basegame (beautiful goes from +40 to +20, creepy breathing from -25 to -12). I figured that reposting the mod with altered values instead of rebuilding it would be simpler on your end.
ephemeraltoast 31 Aug, 2021 @ 7:29am
Finally some damn sanity, bless you.
JACK 13 Aug, 2021 @ 1:11pm
thanks so much for this. it especially drove me nuts when a colonist would get a scar defending the base and then suddenly everyone hates them even though they've always been a valued member of society. :/ basically this is just what the doctor ordered!
Zuthal 23 Jan, 2021 @ 1:44pm
Thank you for this mod! The magnitude of how important the vanilla beauty stat is always bugged me. You wouldn't treat your sibling like a stranger just because they are ugly, or a stranger like your sibling just because they are beautiful! (both sibling and one point of beauty give 20 opinion)

Also if you are able to, it would be cool if certain pawns (e.g. ones with Bloodlust or any other positive combat trait, who have a combat-related background or maybe ones with passion in shooting or melee) had instead of a slight negative a slight positive opinion for disfigured. Instead of "Ew, look how they messed up your face" going "Damn, cool scar bro! How'd you get it?"
Videogameplayer 17 Aug, 2020 @ 8:55am
This mod makes sense since a colonist's priority should not be to look the most incredibly good looking, but in fact to not be conquered by robots or tribals. I on the other hand think the buffs/debuffs have been reduced to becoming borderline irrelevant. If others were okay with it a +/- of 2 or 3 would be better. Ideally there would be mod options but I appreciate that takes time you said you don't have atm. Either way, thanks for the mod :)
[☆] AresOfThrace 6 Aug, 2020 @ 7:34am
Thanks for creating this. Kinder Colonists was a must have imo.
rover 29 Jul, 2020 @ 5:03pm
no worries, that's cool. thanks again.
cucumpear  [author] 29 Jul, 2020 @ 12:24pm
I don't currently have the time to implement something like that, sorry.
rover 29 Jul, 2020 @ 11:14am
hey just wondering if it is possible to implement like a sliding scale mod option, or to just input my own opinion values? I suppose I could just try modding my own preferences myself, but just thought to ask. thanks for everything.
Enlonwhite 16 Jun, 2020 @ 11:50am
I was just trying to compare mod affects and realized if yours does scars I had a reduntant mod that did only scars, yours is better if it reduces scar penalties.

Disfigured could mean scars which is why i asked to be sure.
cucumpear  [author] 16 Jun, 2020 @ 9:30am
Yes, I should probably update the description. I believe some of those terms have recently changed ^^
Enlonwhite 15 Jun, 2020 @ 7:26pm
Disfigured is meaning the scars and such right?
