I don't understood what you tried saying about the start of the game.
IMO, the Zombie is a bit too weak! I usually kill the Zombie too easily in the start, but it is very dependant on how you build and how much experience you have with similar maps. I feel the Zombie has a nice balance ATM of being both over-powered and under-powered.
I did create another zombie scenario a few years ago, sort of like L4D, but more RTS-feel rather than FPS. Also, you should check out Silent Evil created by a few friends of mine. It's about zombie survival RPG created by some fellow members from Black Forest Studios.
