This has easily become one of my favourite add ons. Too bad it's a bit choppy sometimes.

Could you make one only for the credits with the song Zaratozom from the band Goblin?
It's the same song that sound at the end of the movie.

I made this exact mod for the original L4D back in '09, but with tracks for the witch (both when calm and agro) and stingers for each of the special infected pulled directly from Goblin's soundtrack. It had a pretty limited release around the somethingawful community and was hosted on FPS Banana but has sadly been lost to time and hard drive failures. I'm really glad somebody else had the same idea and I'm stoked that other people appreciate it.

As far as how I made mine, I simply edited music from the DotD soundtrack to fit the length and pacing of tracks from the game, as well as a number of short clips for special infected (drums, synth riffs, droning sounds, beep-boops, etc.). Rename each clip to the appropriate L4D file name and replace the audio files. Done. Easy peasy.

Scratch that my man, I found out where Left 4 Dead keeps the mods

You know speaking of using anything usefull from your mod is there actually a way to access the modfiles? I really love it I only want to edit two themes, but left 4 dead doesn't seem to keep mods in the workshop folder and only seems to download them from the main menu. How would I access the mod file if you don't mind me asking?
Resh 6 Sep, 2018 @ 2:12pm
Thanks for the response! I may dive into music modification myself at some point if it's not crazy. I've made a music mod or two in my day but only if it was simple haha Appreciate it anyways!

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately, I made this so long ago that I don't even remember how I did this (and I don't have the energy or motivation to figure it all out again) so this mod comes pretty much as is. I would certainly encourage anyone making their own mods to feel free to use anything from this that they may find helpful.

Love the mod! Perfect for a romero style mod collection im working on (minus headshots, and keeping specials in) Any way the tank theme could be editted to start at 43 seconds as to hear the drum part after a short intro?

This is definitely staying in my load order! RIP George Romero!

Ah, Dawn of the Dead. One of the greatest films ever made, with one of the greatest soundtracks ever made.
I actually met George Romero at a convention before. Really nice dude.

someone needs to make a dawn of the dead map......like right now
THE-LAST-SAINT 16 Aug, 2014 @ 1:23pm
there was a campaign based on the re-make of dawn of the dead ! the big mall.
campaign simply called ''dawn of the dead'' your music mod would fit it like a glove ;)
SheikYerdingus  [author] 16 Aug, 2014 @ 1:19pm
I agree! It's funny how accustomed I've become to hearing the music in the game now.
THE-LAST-SAINT 16 Aug, 2014 @ 12:18pm
;) same here i got this movie on dvd orginal!! the music is good and fits this game
SheikYerdingus  [author] 16 Aug, 2014 @ 11:32am
I certainly appreciate the suggestion mr.bear but I feel that I've already put enough effort into this. I made it for myself as I wanted to hear the music in the game and I've accomplished that goal. I figured I would put it up here in case others might enjoy it as well and I certainly hope some people do. But I ultimately don't care how many subscribers I have or whether other people like it or not. So, if someone can't be bothered to take the time to try the mod without seeing a video of it first, I'm not exactly losing any sleep over it. :)
THE-LAST-SAINT 16 Aug, 2014 @ 11:20am
make a little vid so people can hear it XD

Thanks for the comment John, I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Distraccula 17 Jun, 2014 @ 6:15pm
I'm enjoying the mod. It's exactly what I wanted to change the music to although a couple of the tracks would work well in other spots as well. Excellent.
Pie 1 Jan, 2014 @ 12:26pm
could it be possible just to get the gonk as the credit music? i cant get this mod because it interferes with another mod i have... anyways thanks!:health:
SheikYerdingus  [author] 2 May, 2013 @ 4:21pm
Thanks for the comment Centerdeal, glad you enjoy it! Changing the textures is beyond my expertise unfortunately but ive thought about that too, would definitely be cool. For the music, it's basically just a matter of going in and replacing the files one by one - it was kind of a trial and error thing figuring out what replaced what. If you unpack the .VPK file I made, you can basically see which files I've replaced. I did that with some other sound mods to give myself an idea of what I should be looking for. It's complicated at first but once you figure out the structure of the file system, it's really just a matter of cutting and pasting the files.

This is a great music mod, especially with the mall music for the ending credits....perhaps you will one day consider doing a guide on how to do this type of music mod for the Left 4 Dead 2 ....I considered doing 'Return of the Living Dead' soundtrack, but have no idea on how to do it for the game (I tried changing the concert music in Dark Carnival, following the instructions from one of the guides, but it became a disaster)....Have you ever consider doing reskinning of the textures (a Peter or Roger character, or some texture changes to the mall in Dead Center to resemble Mooreville Mall)....anyway, sorry for the ramble....great job on the music!

I also added in some of "Voci dal Nulla" Bloodfeast, you're most likely to hear it while playing "Dead Air" and "Blood Harvest". I added various other bits of incidental music from "Dawn of the Dead" where I just had the same song repeating several times. I'm going to be playing with it this weekend so if I notice anything off or anything that might be improved, I might end up updating it again.
SheikYerdingus  [author] 13 Apr, 2013 @ 7:09am
Well I spent the morning making some changes and I'm uploading the revised mod now. The change notes only allow me a small number of characters so I thought I'd leave a comment explaining what I changed. Firstly, I upped the volume on a lot of the tracks including the tank music. Secondly, I switched "The Gonk" to start playing at the same point as it does at the end of "Dawn of the Dead" - not only does this fit the ending a lot better but it turns out I had the whole song "The Gonk" included in the mod which was taking up 30 megs of space. (duh!) So that leaves me some space for adding more stuff in later...cont.
SheikYerdingus  [author] 12 Apr, 2013 @ 8:00pm
Thanks for the great suggestions Bloodfeast! I listened to "Voci dal Nulla", it definitely fits the vibe perfectly. As I say, I'm hoping to release a kind of supplemental mod where I replace more of the atmospheric and incidental music. That will have to be a separate mod due to the 200mb limit. I'm going to do some tune ups on this one this weekend (like the tank music volume) and maybe even get started on the second one. Ideally, it would be great to be able to play the game and have the majority of music you hear be from these classic movies.
Nullsweat 12 Apr, 2013 @ 5:59pm
Very nice! "La Caccia" sounds 100% better. I realize your converting mp3's to .wav so I appreciate this mod even more as it must be no easy task to fit them all in the 200 mb limit due to .wav being an uncompressed format. And yes I agree on making "Zombi" a little louder! Sometimes there is so much chaos it just gets drowned out! As for suguesstions, maybe throw in a little Fabio frizzi? Perhaps "Voci dal Nulla"? It would be a good ending theme! Although im torn bewteen the serious "Voci dal Nulla" and the fun and silly "The Gonk", as they are both very awesome ending tracks. I hope you keep making awesome sound mods based on classic zombie movies, its very VERY awesome hearing these tracks in left 4 dead!
SheikYerdingus  [author] 12 Apr, 2013 @ 4:54am
Ok so in addition to the few days off this coming week I also happened to have about 40 minutes before work so I have updated "La Caccia" and it is uploading now! :) Let me know how it sounds for you Blood, I might have to tinker with it some more this weekend. Sometime this week I'm going to go through all the different pieces of music and try to adjust the volumes/quality, I think the tank music could use a slight boost. Just let me know if you have any suggestions/feedback! I'm also considering a supplementary mod for a lot of the more incidental music - I just can't fit it all in this one.
SheikYerdingus  [author] 12 Apr, 2013 @ 4:05am
Thanks for the comment Bloodfeast! My main problem is the 200mb limit of the workshop so it's been hard to make everything fit. I do know what you mean though as I use the mod myself and always notice "La Caccia" sounds kind of crappy. I have a few days off this coming week, I'll definitely see what I can do about improving that.
Nullsweat 11 Apr, 2013 @ 10:44pm
Thank you for this amazing mod, but is there any way you could swap out La caccia with a higher quality version of it? It sounds REALLY compressed and distorted on my 5.1 almost like its in mono or something? All the rest of the tracks sound great though!

Thanks for the comments, glad you're enjoying it!

Yeah, I don't know why it does that, it's annoying. From what I can tell reading about other sound mods, it seems like it just might not work sometimes. I'm just about to update this as I finally figured out how to make the saferoom and ending theme music work for the L4D1 campaigns.
Rick Grimes 31 Mar, 2013 @ 7:47am
ya i just figured that out... it does the same thing for me too... if i do that then it works... :)
SheikYerdingus  [author] 31 Mar, 2013 @ 7:03am
Rick, what's not working for you exactly? I am running the mod from this and not my original files and it is working for me. The only thing I've noticed is that the menu music doesn't always play on startup, it seems like I have to enter and a game and then exit back to the menu for it to start playing. I have no idea why unfortunately.
Rick Grimes 31 Mar, 2013 @ 6:56am
doesnt work
SheikYerdingus  [author] 30 Mar, 2013 @ 8:25pm
Hey DarkKnightNNY thanks for the comment - you're actually absolutely right. I originally only had "L'alba dei morti viventi" for menu music but when I found out you could have 4 other random songs, I kind of overextended myself and rushed 4 more in. I've put it back the way it was so now only "L'alba dei morti viventi" plays on the menu. Quality not quantity!

Also I had originally planned on using "The Gonk" to replace the carnival music just because it seemed to fit. But it's kind of a shame to restrict such an important song from the soundtrack to one compaign, really only playing occasionally. So I've decided to switch the ending theme to "The Gonk". It's something I should have done from the beginning, it's the perfect ending song.

There are many more changes I can envision and I'm sure I'll probably make more changes to this over time. But I'll try to keep the sloppiness level down, I'm new to the workshop and got a little overzealous with the menu music. :)

DarkKnightNNY 30 Mar, 2013 @ 7:01pm
Good pack and great idea, but when I loaded it up instead of "L'alba dei morti viventi" from Dawn of the Dead my menu music was "Deadly Beginings" from Day of the Dead. If you intended to use the Day of the Dead music for the menu at least use "The Dead Suite" (which is the same piece of music but without the added sound effects).

If you do add more music, please find a place to add The Gonk! I can't think of Dawn of the Dead without hearing it.
SheikYerdingus  [author] 30 Mar, 2013 @ 3:01pm
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it! I'm going to try to improve this by including more incidental music but I'm running into size problems with all these .WAV files.
Tubby Brewster 30 Mar, 2013 @ 2:37pm
Awesome stuff... there was another guy who did a mod with loads of other Goblin/Retro Italiano themes... Going to have to have a pop at this myself, as this rocks the party! Top marks!
