I tried it and got errors, I have many mods for it to conflict with... any known problems?
- make the scout have movement of 2, instead of 3, since it already has, by default, the ability to go through woods, and with one promotion can go through any terrain. later units keep the movement of 3
- make ambush only work when attacking, instead of when in rough terrain: an "ambush" must be an offensive move (right?), and I feel that your recon units became too situational, very powerful against ranged units on rough terrain and very weak both on offense and on defense on plains and grasslands
I'm going to have to give the Cree another try, with this rework their UU might be a lot more fun.
Ambush was changed because a +20 strength in any situation is too strong. I intended the recon units to be the rough terrain units. Thus they get a rough terrain bonus instead.
I didn't add scaling cliffs to Alpine promotion because I thought it seemed like a spec ops thing, and therefore made it a spec ops ability.
That said, I'm a little puzzled by the randomness of these choices. Why not replace Ranger with Amphibious (like melee units, ignore rivers and don't pay to em/disembark) and add cliff walls to Alpine? That way there is a meaningful and flavorful early choice but choosing the wrong one won't be useless.
Also, is the point of the other changes to force recon units into a defensive-only role? The vanilla tree makes highly experienced recon units great at sneak attacks and chokepoint defense while less experienced ones are defensive and fragile. I can see where this is unusual but was never part of what bugged me.
