thank you for sharing, and nice work on this one

I have tested the latest Update 322 of NS2 and cyst placement works as such:
Cysts connect if there is a dotted line between them.
Cysts are removed if another is placed within their UI radius.

As far as I can tell, the mod as it was originally designed not useful here.

What behaviours were you interested in the mod providing?
Axelito 21 Apr, 2018 @ 11:12am
thank you very much for the answer, i can't try it right now, but when i will i will post to say if it's working or not :)

Hello!
Thanks for your interest in the mod.

I have no idea if the mod is still working as I haven't played NS2 in a very long time.
The last time I tried to update the mod, I got some kind of credentials error when I tried to push the update to the workshop here.

I will take a look to see if the mod itself works, and if not, if I can get it working again.

I will also post here whether I will be able to maintain this mod in the future.

Thanks again.

Just bevore I activated the mod as I had mods loaded before.

Then I've tried to activate ONLY this mod and pressed Optimise. It actually worked. After this I've activated all other mods. It asked me again to Optimise ... somehow ... It is woking now.

I'm not a modder so I often ask if something goes wrong, but now it is woking now. Thy.
Asbestos  [author] 26 Mar, 2014 @ 6:37am
Hi nextrem,

I've just tested disabling and enabling this mod and both actions cause NS2 to ask me to optimise. The optimisation is relatively quick since it appears to be processing just the one texture included in the mod.
I haven't had the black screen problem however.

Do you still experience the black screen if this is the only mod enabled?
And if so, when exactly does the black screen occur? When you click "Optimise"?
ΔExE 26 Mar, 2014 @ 4:19am
Since the last update, if I activate this mod, somehow my game wants to do an update and shows a blackscreen then. It could only be just me, but I would be happy if you can look over the mod and give a feedback if I'm the only one having this problem and it works for you.

Great work son.

Thank you all for the positive feedback.

I'm impressed with the response to this mod. When I first released it, I thought it would be a useful mod to the few frustrated Khammanders out there, but apparently there were more than a handful.
Now it appears this mod is no longer required.
With update 238, UWE introduced a new “redeployment” behaviour to cyst placement, and have included an inner radius circle much like the one in this mod.
So, unless there are other cyst placement issues that this mod could address, it has served its purpose and will no longer be developed.
Thanks to all those who enjoyed it while it was useful.

10/10, great mod, needs to be officially supported.
KaipiMayo 25 Jan, 2013 @ 12:51am
@The Ugly Duck So.. It does make it easier to place cysts? Because you don't have to waste time moving in and out of valid zones?
HexeR 24 Jan, 2013 @ 11:37pm
@Nobody

So dipshits like you don't spam them over and over again, forcing the marines to waste time and resources to deal with your little exploitative ass.
The Ugly Duck 24 Jan, 2013 @ 1:54am
I like using this texture update. It doesn't really make it easier to place cysts, imo. What it does do is make it a bit quicker figureing out the various distances you can place. This can easily be done without the texture, but takes a little time moving the mouse in and out of valid zones. So thank you!

Where else does the texture show up? can't really remember it anywhere else
Bali 20 Jan, 2013 @ 9:07pm
What Venrez describes is a problem,,,maybe a small one but still useful. I just think the solution is silly. You could have done the same thing with no glitchy oopsies if you could only have a certain limit inside a smaller ring than the max distance.
Bali 20 Jan, 2013 @ 9:06pm
AH HA! So that's why I couldn't get that resource node in central cavern for 3 minutes while trying to spam cysts anywhere around it. It's ok somehow we managed to win without ever capping that. Still pretty fricken annoying. Seems it would have been better to just restrict the number of cysts within a certain radius, so com's can't spam cysts to keep rines busy.

What the fuck were the devs even thinking putting this stupid restriction on how far away you can put cysts in the first place? I was literally sitting there flabberghasted at why I couldn't place cysts the way I normally would as commander. Good rules are permissive rules, not stupid restrictive rules that make the game feel like you're playing with a children's toy. "No no honey you can't put your toy cysts there. They belong in the toybox."
lasagna 20 Jan, 2013 @ 11:26am
This should be built into the game.
Piotr Bot 20 Jan, 2013 @ 8:02am
Awesome in every way! Nice presentation too. Mod-Picture is perfect!
THE PILGRIM 20 Jan, 2013 @ 7:55am
Really liking this mod, noticed the change in cyst placement and was definitly confused. So thanks, great mod. Love the reduction in cyst spamming as well. Now cutting a chain of cysts is an actual possibility like it should be XD.
Venrez 20 Jan, 2013 @ 7:44am
Press the subscribe button, and it will be downloaded the next time you run NS2.
When you are in NS2 on the main menu, select the 'Mods' menu and 'enable' the mods you wish to apply to your game. Done.
Rellik_pt 20 Jan, 2013 @ 6:26am
thanks, dunno why the devs dont do this already
Mike 20 Jan, 2013 @ 5:39am
Hi everybody
How Download that mod's?

nice one!
Asbestos  [author] 19 Jan, 2013 @ 5:20pm
I, too, support reducing the effectiveness of cyst spamming.
This mod is not in protest of the new placement restrictions, but rather it is a reaction to the large amount of guess work that placing cysts now demands. Yes, one can learn the thresholds with experience, but having had the opportunity to help a few new Khammanders, I can tell you that the learning curve is quite steep (especially with the sometimes counter-intuitive feedback).
I've played more than a couple of games where there is no Commander for a few minutes until someone reluctantly takes command, so anything that can reduce the barrier to getting new Commanders up to speed is something I support.
Venrez 19 Jan, 2013 @ 2:43pm
Playing as Commander a significant amount of the rounds that I play, I've never run into such arduous trouble repairing any broken cyst chains. Yes, it can be a little more fiddly now and you need to be more specific and thoughtful as to your placement, but that is the point behind the change in cyst usage. It prevents Alien Com's from just spamming them to all heck, thus boosting the effectiveness of forward bases with Whips, Crags and so forth.

It all comes down to experience, I find. People will adapt to the new system in due time.
Besides, it only takes perhaps five to ten seconds to repair a cyst chain unless it is actively still being attacked, at which time you should be directing your team to deal with it.

Still, I support this addition.
Asbestos  [author] 19 Jan, 2013 @ 11:25am
Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm glad you're finding it useful.

Venrez: I'm sure that at some point better visualisation of cyst placement will be a feature of NS2, but until then, with the trickier placement restrictions, I wanted to make things easier on Khammanders. To be perfectly honest, I haven't had a lot of opportunity to play as Khammander since the update rolled out, however I did have a short match and I noticed that an unusually large amount of it was spent fighting with the game to allow me to place cysts. I wouldn't call it impossible, but it was more frustrating than it needed to be.
During some matches, pesky lone marines will break cyst chains far away from the action, and repairing the damage needs to be done ASAP so that your attention can return to more important matters than whether a cyst is too close to another cyst. It is currently needlessly fiddly.
Asbestos  [author] 19 Jan, 2013 @ 11:24am
Venrez: The reference to placement being "almost impossible" actually relates to a comment that was left on the original update announcement thread (which you can read here [www.unknownworlds.com]). Apparently when repairing a cyst chain, this Khammander placed them in such a way as to prevent them from being linked up again, supposedly giving the Marines the advantage. The poster later claimed fault, but I wonder if there had been better visualisation in place, would this mistake even have been made?
It was basically impossible to have an unrepairable cyst chain before the update, and now it seems we have the opposite situation, where if you are not careful, you can irreversibly cut off large tracts of infestation.

TL;DR VERSION: It's way harder to place cysts than it needs to be, and you can get your team into real trouble.
Venrez 19 Jan, 2013 @ 6:00am
The visual effect is simple and useful. I dont see why this isnt in the game officially already, considering the current changes to cyst placement. Upvoted. However,
"This has made cyst placement more difficult and in some cases almost impossible."
Impossible? Where? I've had no trouble adapting to the current changes. In some areas it requires you to place your cysts closer together -before- approaching the necessary Resource node or critical spot around a corner for defence, for example, but apart from that it is never 'almost impossible', implying severe difficulty.
