I did a manual recreation of all the pieces in Photoshop. It proved to either not work or barely work. I found that by contracting the borders 5 pixels (shape borders, not image) it let the holes be larger than the pieces that go in them.

That's not to say it isn't fiddly. It could definitely use some more tweaking (I'll probably change it by another pixel or two) or some scripting to get it right.

Honestly, if the grid worked the way I wanted it to this would be perfect to play.

Maybe whoever has successfully made Patchwork mods should take a crack at it?

I was making a mod of this but the pieces were very fiddly to fit together, it kinda needed to have custom collisions to be easier to use. Did you do anything like that?
