Version 0.23 >>>

Added two new army chiefs to Argentina. Hard to keep historical accuracy here. Argentina had 9 different Army Chiefs between 1936 and 1946. The number, along with the fact that many of them didn’t actually do much when in power (or did the same as people who came before them) makes it hard to choose who to add. Bottom line, I picked 4 which I could work with and gave each of them a custom trait to reflect their stories.

Toyed with the idea of changing sprites for all the advisors (you know, change the generic black swords, factories, etc., on their portraits to something custom) but couldn’t find the file where those are designated so I decided to leave it for later.

Started work with Argentinian Navy Chiefs. Situation is similar to the army chiefs… the country had 9 different chiefs in a 10-year period as well.

Removed Eleazar Videla as political advisor and included him as Navy Chief (seems more appropriate). Reconsidered. Given Videla’s current trait, it’d be most likely pointless to add other navy chiefs as he’s just too overpowered when compared to other candidates. Re added as political advisor, rebalanced his trait. Added him as Navy Chief again, tried to work around game limitations to give him a trait in line with his personal history… complicated, not entirely satisfactory, but should work for now.

Added Leon Scasso and Mario Fincati as navy chief options. Trying to keep everything balanced is proving difficult. Might have to take a look at the traits I assigned them as navy leaders in order to keep things consistent. Found out some new commands that have given me a bit more customization options. For now, I’ll continue with the Air Chiefs.

Doing some rebalancing for the Army Chiefs. Retouched all their traits a bit.

Doing some rebalancing for the Navy Chiefs. Retouched some of the traits.

Overall I’ve reduced many of the bonuses and standardized the traits. They are still better that what a vanilla country will get, and I’m not particularly happy with Scasso’s bonus in regards to his flavor text, but well, it’ll have to do for now.

Started working on Air Chiefs. Removed Tamborini right away as he was a politician in UCR and had nothing to do with aviation whatsoever.

Added three more Air Chiefs and revised Parodi. Custom traits and portraits for all.

Will update this as a new version before moving on to theorists and high command because I’d like to see what the opinions are for these new chiefs.

Version 0.22 >>>

Started work on some new military advisors. Lack of information and pictures makes research extremely hard. Keep noticing Paradox’s randomness. Tamborini (a political figure) being chosen as an Air Chief seems to signal to random choosing of names.

Four days of research later I have a list of possible leaders for both army and navy. I have uploaded their images to my test branch and coded them in. Everything loads up fine.

16 new army leaders added. (plus two vanilla revised ones).

8 new navy leaders added. (plus two vanilla revised ones).

Pictures quality isn’t as good as I’d like, but for now they’ll do.

Reworked some of the mod files and their structure for greater ease of edit (mostly separated a lot of files in categories to reduce clutter when coding).

Added one more army leader.

Created traits for all new and revised army leaders and flavor text to go with them. Some traits may be a bit of a stretch and some will require balancing.

Started code work on the navy leaders. Trying to reflect each leader’s history has proven difficult given the limitations in the trait system. There’s not much freedom in regards to what bonuses you can give navy leaders through traits. Sadly, this means that many of the traits are copy pastes just with different flavor text.

Finished the navy leader traits and flavor text. Not entirely satisfied with the results but it will have to do until I find out how to further customize the admirals.

Considered enough work done to merit a new version. Uploaded to Steam Workshop.

Version 0.21 >>>

Added real life portraits for all political advisors included in vanilla. Alberto Gilbert excluded as I couldn’t find a real life photo of him anywhere.

Had to hijack the zzz_generic idea file from vanilla and overwrite it as it was including randomized political advisors to the list. These usually ended up giving duplicates with terrible traits that contradict their real counter parts (Peron being communist for example). I’m afraid this could affect mod compatibility but until I find a better way to remove Argentina from the randomization it’ll have to do.

Added Alberto Hueyo to the roster of political advisors along with his real picture and personal trait.

Revised Saavedra Lamas “Genius Negotiator” trait for balance.

Added Basilio Pertine to the roster of political advisors along with his real picture and personal trait.

Revised Carlos Pueyrredon’s trait for historical accuracy.

Revised Edelmiro Farrell (Military Theorist), created new portrait and trait. Had to go with a special forces bonus, though my intention was just to have it affect mountaineers. Will look into this later, see if I can adjust it.

Revised Eleazar T. Videla (High Command). Changed his portrait and made new trait for him.

Added Eleazar T. Videla as political advisor as well. Same portrait, new trait oriented at navy building.

Revised Hortensio Quijano (Theorist). Surprised at Paradox’s randomness, Quijano was never part of the armed forces nor had anything to do with airplanes. Removed Quijano as Theorist, added him as political advisor. Changed portrait for real one, made new trait for him.

Come upon a cap on political advisors when I was trying to add Jorge de la Torre. Apparently the limit is 12. Current skill insufficient to do anything about this, though I’ve seen other mods do it. Tampering with those options would make mod less compatible though. Opting for shuffling advisors in and out depending their utility and historical relevance.

Shuffled out Alberto Gilbert (no real portrait to be found, historical importance minor)

Shuffled in Jorge de la Torre. Added real portrait and custom trait.

Solved issue with Saavedra Lamas Nobel Price event redundancy.

Revised Manuel Maria de Iriondo (political advisor). Added real portrait and custom trait.

Shuffled out Juan Domingo Peron as political advisor (though historically important as a future head of state, his political activity started only after the ’43 coup. Actually, revising his status as an army general might also be a good idea as at the year 1936 he was just a coronel).

Shuffled out Luis Podesta Costa as political advisor (little historic relevance or information to craft a useful trait for him).

Added Manuel Ramon Alvarado (political advisor), portrait and unique trait.

Revised Ramon Castillo (political advisor), portrait and unique trait.

Replaced Fanny Edelman as leader of the Partido Comunista Argentino (this didn’t happen until much much later. Really, who did Paradox’s research on Argentina?) New leader is Juan Jose Penelon. Added real life portrait of him (retouched a bit).

Encountered green screen bug with Penelon’s portrait. Fix is elusive. After an hour of retries I came upon post on hoi 4 forums saying files must be saved on ARGB 8.8.8.8 format. This seems random as many of the files I’ve used I just saved on default format but will keep in mind in case it happens again.

Added Victorio Codovilla as a political advisor. New portrait and trait.

Noticed I was wrong about the cap on advisors. For some reason the screen wasn’t scrolling last time. Will reconsider adding more advisors to the panel but for now will leave those I shuffled out as is.

Considered enough work done to merit a new version. Uploading to steam as v.0.21.

Version 0.20 >>>

Created github project for collaborators.

Fixed the Saavedra Lamas Wins the Nobel Price Event issue.

Added Manuel Savio to the list of political advisors and his custom portrait.

Added a unique trait for Savio.

Added Miguel Carcano to the list of political advisors and his custom portrait.

Added a unique trait for Carcano.

Revised Manuel Rodriguez (Army Chief). Made new portrait and trait for him.

Revised Pedro Pablo Ramirez (Army Chief). Made new portrait and trait for him (historical accuracy lax on this one, had to do some guessing as there isn’t much info about his military career per se)

Revised Pedro S. Casal (Navy Chief). Made new portrait and trait for him (portrait is NOT historically accurate and I’m not even sure it’s actually him to begin with. Could not find an image of the man for the life of me, only one in which he is mentioned but he’s also posing with 14 other people and there’s no way to tell who’s who. The picture I used is my best guess judging by his age at the time and what little I could identify from the ranks. Note that Casal would be almost on his sixties by the time the game starts and the picture is from when he was 31. Sadly, this will have to do until I find a proper picture).

Note: General Rodriguez died on the first months of 1936 and Admiral Casal retired in 1937. Must consider making events to address this in game.
