NSN Wolf Den, and the Incident on Ludd Station

Description
The NSN 'Wolf Den' was a Gen1 heavy carrier built by the NSN, that was destroyed on its first combat mission.

NOTE: This is for storyline purposes only, as it ties to other bp's Bio's. This bp is way old, like over 5 years old when the blocks and everything were different, so aside from how cheesy it looks, i wouldn't DL it. aside from that...

The NSN WolfDen, and the Incident on Ludd Station

After the senate dissolved and the great war began, a shadowy collection of corporate entities calling itself 'The Syndicate' asserted itself the head of a separatist faction consisting of all the largest companies, manufacturers, and technology pools, who were looking mostly after their own interests instead of those of the public. With war already waging amongst the former members of the senate, the Syndicate made the creation of a navy its number one priority, and the New Syndicated Navy (NSN) was born.

The Syndicate had vast resources at their disposal, with limitless cash and well grounded science, production, and research and development facilities. What it didn't have, however, were experienced military personnel, ships, or the means to train nor build them. The task of filling the NSN with combat vessels was given to Albatross Industrial (AI), and the first thing it did was to begin converting existing security and police craft for military use as strike craft. At the same time, AI began designing its own vessels from scratch, beginning with strike and assault craft. The first designs yielded the Wasp and Rapier light fighters, and the BroadAxe heavy assault fighter (archive no longer available), which were quickly pressed into production. Early combat testing of these strike craft returned mixed results, but little time was left for R&D, and production of these craft continued regardless.

With the commission of its first capital ship, the NSN asked AI to design an all around support vessel, one that could make maximum use of the massive amounts of strike craft the NSN currently employed, while being able to remain distant from the main battle, providing support with artillary. Since there was little military experience in the Syndicate think tanks, this first vessel would be a unique prototype, and as such, no expense was spared in its design and construction.

When it was all said and done, the NSN Wolf Den was launched. Sporting a massive central hangar with scaffolding and rigging for construction on planetary atmospheres, and two rapid deploy/recover external hangar pods, the Wolf Den could launch, recover, repair, rearm and coordinate dozens of craft at a time. The 8x BroadAxe Heavy Fighters supplied most of the Wolf Den's big punch, but it is also equipped with 2x long range artillary turrets. The Wolf Den is designed to utilize its squadrons and artillery and attack from a distance, pulverizing its opponent before it can too close. The Wolf Den also has two forward AA pods, each containing 2x rapid tracking Minigun turrets.

The Wolf Den suffered from one setback, and that was it's terrible turning speed, the vessel simply did not respond as designed. It was decided that the Wolf Den would be evaluated during its combat trials, and modifications would be made after. However, it was during its combat trial that the Wolf Den received distress signals from the Space Station at Ludd. At the time, the Wolf Den was the only vessel the NSN had with a warp drive, and since it was fully loaded with brand new strike and assault craft, and an eager crew, it was decided to send it to aid the Ludd station.

Upon arriving, the Wolf Den found an enemy carrier, accompanied by 2 cruisers, pummeling the station. The Wolf Den immediately launched its BroadAxe and Wasp fighters to engage the enemy strike craft.

However, the NSN ships could not bring down the newer, faster and more powerful enemy ships quick enough, and the enemy cruisers moved into attack position on the Wolf Den. Wasp Fighters from the Wolf Den desperately tried to defend the Ludd station from the waves of bombers streaming from the enemy carrier. The cruisers quickly closed in on the slow turning Wolf Den as it lumbered towards an escape warp trajectory. Initial volleys from the cruisers destroyed one of the Wolf Dens Engine pods, and also the entire hangar pod beneath it, even further crippling the already lame vessel.

When it was over, the Wolf Den was lost, along with all of its crew, pilots, and a full compliment of strike craft. That, along with years of research and development, construction, and trillions of credits. The loss of the Wolf Den was absolutely catastrophic to the NSN, and it once again found itself with simple security craft, and apparently, poorly designed new craft which all proved quite useless in combat.

After the Wolf Den incident, the NSN terminated its contracts with Albatross Industrial, including the massive Lions Den project, and eventually began working with the luxury, sport, and high performance personal craft manufacturer Xerxes Corporation.
