Sirocco - MODDED - turbo pascal

Description
Submitted for the "A design for planets v2" competition run by w4stedspace.

[ For an update about aerodynamics on planets, please look at the bottom of the description. ]

So, I saw the competition announcement, and then forgot about it. Fast forward a few weeks, I suddenly remembered there is a competition running, and immediately started compiling a mod list for my design.

Now then, after a mere 3 days of building and scratching my head, I present to you: Sirocco Mk 1!

Doing orbital or outer space operations? Need a quick and convenient way to go to and from a planet's surface? Or maybe you just want to traverse asteroid fields and the endless void faster than anyone else? Enter my small planetary/star shuttle. Equipped with 60 powerful hydrogen thrusters and even more ion thrusters, as well as 68 gyroscopes, it will make you quickly forget, how slow getting around used to be. Enjoy its fully pressurised cabin, cozy toilet and the view into space, and the journey will literally fly by in no time.

This is a world in creative setting that contains the ship. For a blueprint of the ship, click here.

No scripts were used - I wish I'd given myself more time to write some code, but as it stands the ship is 'scriptless'.

Details

Sirocco is a small and very agile shuttle, designed to transport the captain, the flight engineer, 4 passengers, their cargo, and two space motorbikes (Zephyr Mk 2 - also my creation) to the destination as quickly and comfortably as possible.

The external shape of the spacecraft is of no particular origin - it just came up in my head while I was doing my usual "imagining cool things before going to bed" thing. Resemblance to the original idea is really vague though.

The interior features a fully custom cockpit with 7 LCDs positioned optimally for captain's convenience, an also fully custom flight engineer's station with 5 LCDs and a Flight Management Computer ready to be programmed, 4 passenger seats with outside view windows, 2 separate air ducts, a first aid station, an ore detector for scouting missions, an emergency oxygen reservoir, a sound warning system, 6 small lockers, as well as an enclosed toilet equipped with further 2 separate air ducts.

In the engineering compartment there are two Azimuth Industries fusion reactors, two separate (interconnected) oxygen storage and production systems, a hydrogen tank with pipes feeding the wing-fitted thrusters, and redundant communications arrays. Behind that is the cargo compartment, where one can find 2 backup batteries, a few more lockers, space for cargo crates and two bikes, as well as an access hatch to the engineering compartment.

Speaking of hatches, Sirocco is made with ease of maintenance in mind. For this reason, a lot of its internal hardware - gyroscopes and gravity generators, among others - is accessible from the outside through sliding cover panels, so that when something needs repairs, tweaks or other tinkering, it is straightforward and hassle-free to get to it.

To top it all off, the ship has a connector on the bottom for resupply of fuel and oxygen, a few photovoltaic panels, a skylight to provide passengers with a nice view, and of course landing gear to land on a planet.

There's a tiny easter egg for you to discover, too ;)

Credits

A huge shoutout goes to Banshee_Metal, the creator of the MG-01B Leopard tracked vehicle. It provided me with a lot of inspiration with its detailed, meticulously crafted interior, including large ship-like features in a small ship form factor and the open cockpit design with LCDs.

Also thanks to the creators of the Azimuth Industries mod pack - your super-useful, functional, compact and good-looking blocks pretty much define Sirocco.

Of course, making of this ship would be nigh impossible without the Small Ship Mega Mod Pack, Aerodynamics, SlopeLCDPanels, MCM Boarding Ramp, Armor Ramps, Advanced Doors Mod Pack, Small Medical Station and of course the XPAR Toiletries, as well as all the other mods listed on the right. Thank you!

Thank you to w4stedspace for running the competition. I appreciate the motivation to actually build and upload this ship :)

Known issues

Okay, time for the tricky part. Gyroscopes like to shut off sometimes - I have no idea what's causing that. Reloading the save seems to fix it for a short while at a time. Landing suspensions tend to go crazy - don't change the slider settings on them, and if they're making the ship rotate randomly, try to uncheck and check "Safety lock override" in their terminal. The exit door doesn't let air through when open - the mod is pretty much discontinued; the solution would be to replace the door for a different one, but I kept it for the looks and sounds. Other than that there should be no issues, but excercise the usual caution ;)

UPDATE: I just found out that it is very much possible to fly this ship in the atmosphere of a large planet if you swap out Digi's Aerodynamics for this beast of a mod - as in, remove Digi's Aerodynamics from the list and add Draygo's and Shaostoul's mod to it.
With the new mod (which does lift & drag calculations on the ship's body, not arbitrary blocks), it seems that Sirocco can nicely hold herself up in the air at reasonable cruise speeds, but she still requires a hefty bit of runway to land.
That said, I am unable to conduct any further testing, because the memory leaks in Space Engineers code are making planets 95% unplayable for me, and through obscenely massive pagefile usage they are putting an unacceptable, constant load on my SSD.
Thus, any updates I might add to this design will have to be carried out without a planet and will rely solely on your - the subscriber's - feedback when it comes to planetary features.

Please enjoy what I've made and leave a comment, telling me what you think of it :)

Good luck everyone, and may the best design win!

NEWS: I tested Sirocco with Draygo's and Shaostoul's Aerodynamic Physics mod and it seems to work better with it! See bottom of the description for details.

Also, just tested it on a planet. No, it can't take off nor land on a planet's surface xD I mostly intended it to be an aesthetic build rather than a super-functional one, but still I'd rather it work the way it's supposed to ;) I would need to boost the stats of the wings from the Aerodynamics mod for that to happen - which I might get to relatively soon, if time allows.

Hah, when I looked at the finished thing and the screenshots, I knew it was reminiscent of something. Thanks, now I know what :D And it's kinda funny, because the original idea in my head 'looked' rather sleek and modern, but the blocky nature of SE made me alter the shape a bit.

slightly bulky, but you pulled off a really good "old sci-fi movie/show" feeling
